Van Jones — The 800-Pound Gorilla in the Press Room

Yesterday shortly after noon, Gateway Pundit broke the story that Obama’s Green Czar, Van Jones, was a 9/11 “truther.” That was nearly 24 hours ago. So what has been the response from the mainstream media? Silence. Nada. Not a peep. A search of the New York Times website returns one hit — a mention of the Jones fiasco by a commentator at the Opinionator blog. The Washington Post is similarly tongue-tied.

Do a global search at Google News and you come up with several links, which seems more promising. But nearly all are to FOX News or other conservative sites. The handful of remainders are to liberal sources that ridicule FOX for bringing up yet “another distraction to the President’s important agenda,” with some beginning the futile attempt to explain away Jones’s transgressions (e.g., by claiming that the majority of Americans believe that 9/11 was planned or approved by the Bush administration).

Jones himself issued an apology yesterday, stating essentially that the views in the petition he signed are not his own. Hmmm, good excuse for philanderers trying to explain the lipstick stain on their collars: “I don’t know how it got there, honey, but I can assure you that that lipstick is not mine.”

Allahpundit has an update this morning: Jones now insists he didn’t “carefully review” the petition. Next, I suppose, is his dog ate it, followed by he put on the roof of his care while he was opening the door and it blew away.

What a world!
