Hoyer: If This Bill Isn’t Paid For—I’m Not Voting For It.

Steny Hoyer: “The fact of the matter is, though,” he added, a moment later, “that on this bill, we have said, a) it will be paid for. It will be paid for. And if it’s not paid for, I’m not going to vote for it.”
Who ever said a Democrat couldn’t see a fiscal crisis coming down the road never met Steny Hoyer (apparently). Hoyer says no way, no how. And while you may hear a comment like this from staff occasionally, it’s rarely this large coming from number two in the House. If Mr. Hoyer is serious, more power to him.
Waldorf, Md., (CNSNews.com) – House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D.-Md.) told a town hall meeting on Tuesday night that the health care reform legislation under consideration in Congress will not increase taxes or deficit spending, and must be paid for or he won’t vote for it.
A participant at the town hall meeting that was held in Waldorf, Md., asked Hoyer if he believed the health care bill would cause a “tax increase or an increase to the deficit?”
“Neither,” Hoyer replied.
“The fact of the matter is, though,” he added, a moment later, “that on this bill, we have said, a) it will be paid for. It will be paid for. And if it’s not paid for, I’m not going to vote for it.” LINK
CNSNews also has the town hall video up.
Mr. Hoyer’s statement puts the brakes on a soured nationalized option that would put this nation further in debt. Can a main stream media, that’s looked the other way for months just ignore Hoyer’s remarks or his profound intentions? Further, can Nancy Pelosi and her far left constituents come to the same realization that universal health care, written in its current form, is a political and financial train wreck.
Update: It looks like AP and Mz. Huffington’s site has got this one wrong, (again). While AP writes on the same town hall meeting, both AP and Huffpo fail to report Hoyers “proclaimation”:
How the Huffington post and AP managed to leave a critical part of Hoyer’s town hall meeting “out of print” is above and beyond their dereliction of duties as a source of information. Content management must be working overtime.
Update 2: Pelosi stresses commitment to public option:
“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she is firmly committed to passing a comprehensive healthcare reform bill with a public insurance option despite signals from top White House aides that the president may forge another path to gain bipartisan approval. “We can’t pass a bill without a public option,” Pelosi told reporters after speaking at a healthcare event hosted by the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce in her home district.”
Stand your ground Nancy—-Steny’s got your back!

Anyone want to give odds that Hoyer votes for the bill?
A: He’s a democrat
B: He’s not going to vote against Pelosi
C: He will make the claim, if pressed, that the bill pays for itself

Hoyer may most likely vote for the bill, BUT, if it’s not deficit neutral this video should haunt him in 2010. Pelosi could care less if this bill cost the nation another couple of trillion over the next ten years, because a middle class tax hike was always in her plans. The lady simply does not care.

Another lying congresscritter. He will vote for it and when Obama gets control of the internet, all of these damaging videos will disappear down the memory hole.

Gosh why don’t I believe this idiot Hoyer?

I watched him for a while on C=SPAN last night, and that is an accurate quote. Whether or not he really means it is beyond me. The biggest roar I heard was for a man asking “If the government option is to keep the insurance companies honest, who is going to keep the Government honest?”.
