Does Ted Kennedy’s Death Breathe New Life into the Health Care Debate?

The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away*. Ted Kennedy has sloughed off this mortal coil, and now health care — “the passion of his life,” according to Rep. David Obey — has a chance to live and go forth and prosper.
But will it? The answer implicit in an article on the front page of this morning’s New York Times by Carl Hulse and Katharine Q. Seelye seems to be a resounding yes. This reading certainly may be gleaned from the many eulogistic quotes from Democrats in both houses of Congress. Saieth Speaker Nancy Pelosi, “Ted Kennedy’s dream of quality health care for all Americans will be made real this year because of his leadership and his inspiration.” From Dem Chairman Howard Dean: “his [Kennedy's] death absolutely will stiffen the spine of the Democrats to get something this year for this extraordinary giant in Senate history.” Sen. Chris Dodd: “Maybe Teddy’s passing will remind people once again that we are there to get a job done as he would do.”
It’s all very schmaltzy and warm, befitting a fallen hero of the liberal left, but the question remains: Will Kennedy’s passing help pass H.R. 3200 in some form? In search of an answer, let’s go back to the opening paragraph of the article/tribute:
The death of Senator Edward M. Kennedy has quickly become a rallying point for Democratic advocates of a broad health care overhaul, a signature Kennedy issue that became mired in partisanship while he fought his illness away from the Capitol. [Empasis added.]
If the words in bold italics in this quote were true, then so might be the determination informing the quote by Nancy Pelosi. But they are not true. The fight that is raging in Congress is largely a stalemate within the ranks of the Democrat Party. Those on the hard left refuse to pass the bill unless a government option remains in it. Blue dogs refuse to pass the bill unless that language is stripped from it.
I’d say this is all wishful thinking on the part of the Democrats (and presumably the Times writers) and that the health care reform bill remains in the same precarious spot it occupied before Kennedy died.
* For all you bible scholars out there, let me you save you the trouble: This phrase does not appear in the King James Bible.

The verse is a paraphrase of Job 1:21: “…naked came I from my mother’s womb, and naked I shall depart. The Lord gave; the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord!”

I’d love to see a story on Kennedy’s prognosis if he were a normal citizen in the Canadian or British healthcare system.

Poor Teddy, lost a shot at the presidency for a youthful indiscretion (yes, I actually saw that in the msm and BTW he was 39, married and had three kids when he drowned Mary Jo), but will live forever as KennedyKare and do even more damage after death than he while he was still breathing.

The state controlled media and the Democrats are fooling themselves if they think that Ted Kennedy’s death is going to change the minds of Americans who oppose the health care bill(s). Barry H. Obama is the only politician I can think of who is more polarizing than Senator Kennedy. Right now, the left is listening to their own echo chamber and projecting the feeling of New England onto the rest of the nation.
They keep making mistakes. Do not intervene.

Teddy being dead-y makes no difference to health care.
The Blue Dogs are afraid, and it’s not like Teddy was their hero anyway.
The gutless D.C. Repubs may manage a few public tears but they’re caught between afraid and angry, depending on relative IQ and length of service…
So, yeah. This is going to help get TeddyCare passed just like lighting a football on fire will help get it passed…

Short term blip then we get back to WHAT IS ACTUALLY IN THE BILL.
I can’t believe that the watchdog MSM just stumbled on to the fact the IRS will have total control and access of every single American’s most personal information….of course they won’t for those that benefit most from HR3200, illegal aliens.

The option of honoring Teddy vs. Losing Their Job is the one facing Blue Dog Democrats, none of whom I would guess will be participating in Saturday’s funeral, or spending the rest of the weekend on the Cape with the Obamas. So my guess is this talk will last as long as it takes for the first post-Teddy polls on the health care bill to come out, and if they all show no change in support, than the talking points of the moment will be as ex as the senator.

Putting lipstick on a pig doesn’t change it into a raven beauty, unless of course you’re another pig.
It was a boat anchor before he left and it is still the same boat anchor, changing its name won’t make it a yacht.
