Why ObamaCare goons do not help ObamaCare

To the surprise of no one, after Big Labor threatened to directly engage anti-ObamaCare protesters at Democratic town halls during the August recess, and the White House threatened to “punch back twice as hard,” violence has followed. In St. Louis and Tampa, ObamaCare supporters were snuck into town halls through side doors to fill the front rows with SEIU drones, while much larger crowds of critics were barred from entering. This was all pretty much right out of the HCAN astroturf playbook — which is amusing given that the Left just got through falsely claiming the Right had a playbook for these town halls.

In St. Louis, six people were arrested: two on suspicion of assault, one for resisting arrest and three on suspicion of committing peace disturbances. A conservative activist said he was attacked by some of those arrested, landing in the local emergency room. One of those arrested was a very loud proponent of government-run healthcare. Oddly enough, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch was unable to find violence or arrests on the side of those extremist right-wingers the Left has been yowling about.

In Tampa, a woman named Karen Miracle was photographed pushing Barry Osteen, who was debating her husband, Garry. Barry is happy with the US healthcare system. Jon Henke put his keyboard to work:

I’m guessing she’s the Karen Miracle who is Treasurer of the E. Hillsborough Democratic Club. Her husband, Garry (also pictured), is the Political Director.

It does seem unlikely that there would be two politically active Karen and Garry Miracles living in the area (if not miraculous). Henke also notes that the local media disappeared some of its initial reporting, including Kim Diehl of SEIU saying of the protests, “We’re prepared. We have strategies to deal with it if it should come up.” But the original story is still on FreeRepublic, including FR’s warning about SEIU goons.

Obviously, the left-wing pushback, originating from the White House and coordinated with HCAN (a front group masking the AFL-CIO, SEIU, ACORN and others), is designed to further The Narrative that critics of government-run healthcare are a mob of extremists bent on shutting down debate and thwarting the democratic process.

There are several reasons why this tactic does not serve the Left.

First, the Left so telegraphed their plan that they lost the element of surprise, let alone deception.

Second, Pres. Obama was the one saying that the time for talk on healthcare is over, and that this is no time for delay. RINOs like Sen. Olympia Snowe are complaining that the Democrats are trying to railroad healthcare reform through Congress. The Left wanted healthcare reform passed before the August recess, and are doing town halls because they have failed to solidify even Democratic support for the proposals on the table. They have been accusing the GOP of dragging out debate, which makes the claim that the Right is trying to shut down debate ring rather hollow.

Third, the Left’s response here reveals not only their defensive posture, but also furthers a media narrative that ObamaCare is highly controversial. They may succeed at tarring the anti-ObamaCare protesters in some cases, but the old adage about wrestling a pig applies here. Public opinion has already shifted against healthcare reform; partisan food-fights are more likely to provoke the “pox on both houses” reaction among the mushy middle than to turn the tide against ObamaCare’s critics.

Finally, rolling out union goons to Democratic town halls does not solve any of the Left’s underlying problems in selling ObamaCare. Pres. Obama has run town halls packed with supporters, with no opposition, but that has not stopped people from noticing ObamaCare’s ginormous price tag, with its implied promises of higher taxes and insurance premiums. Absent solutions to those problems (or a miraculous economic recovery this month), the public is likely to side with — and quietly root for — ObamaCare protesters.

Our current administration is looking more and more like Hugo Chavez’s administration every day.

I agree with Karl. They are pushing back hard and reporting blatant lies.
The HuffPo has a thread where they are blaming Beck & FOX for the violence. The are whipping themselves into a liberal frenzy over there, already 15,340 comment with 396 pending, mine is one of them.

Excellent post. It can’t be said enough, the violence erupted as soon as Obama and the Dems sent in the Union thugs. Coincidence, yeah right and Pelosi is a moderate.

One more thing, why are the Unions even there? They get to keep the care they have just like the politicians do.

I would recommend people contacting the President of the East Hillsborough Democrat Political Club about Karen Miracle, their treasurer, and her assault on a tea party member. Link to the photos and demand her termination.

The more power Democrats have, the more power the unions have.
The more power govt has, the more Democrats have.

I might add that SEIU is primarily a govt employees union.
More govt means more SEIU drones. And more money for those who run the SEIU to spend on themselves.

The photo of Karen Miracle pushing Barry Osteen shows that Mr. Osteen is at least 8 inches taller than Ms. Miracle, yet he is passively letting her push him, although a physical confrontation would quickly turn to the advantage of Mr. Osteen.

Who are the real angry mobs, Mr. President?

Steve Z on August 7, 2009 at 1:41 PM

What’s the point of putting union thugs into the town halls anyway? The town halls don’t decide whether we get socialized medicine or not. That is not where the vote takes place. The representatives vote in Washington. I don’t understand how this advances the obama care agenda.

They have been accusing the GOP of dragging out debate, which makes the claim that the Right is trying to shut down debate ring rather hollow.

The Democrats have a solid majority in the House and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, and could pass this without any GOP support. So who is dragging out the debate?

Uh, Democrats from swing districts who don’t want their names on this monstrosity, and might want a job in 2011. They need votes from all those gray-haired people, and it doesn’t look good when hundreds of them show up shouting and holding signs against ObamaCare.

But of course, blame it on the Republicans.

Steve Z on August 7, 2009 at 1:49 PM

We’re approaching the end game, with the added benefit that the SEIU has had to crawl out from under a rock and make its presence known. Do you think the SEIU wants its acronym associated with union violence?

The connect-the-dots moment is at hand: The government-run healthcare is really a way to swell the ranks of the unions. Now that the AFL-CIO is on the wane, the SEIU will reap the benefits of government-run healthcare, since all of these employees will be required to join this union and pay their union dues, much of which will end up funding democratic candidates.

This is not about healthcare, but simply about the so-called permanent majority of the Democratic Party.

But the light is now shining and the roaches are scattering.

The Progressive Era ends in a whimper.

If I was a union boss, the last thing I would want is the government undermining the collective bargaining gains and the sanctity of the union contract. If a provision of a union contract is made law then you have one less reason to be a union member. Now that health insurance is on track to be mandated by law, is there any reason left to be a union member?

Disagree, the glue-sniffing juvenile delinquents in the Obama-Mugabe “administration” make Chavez’s government look sensible and dignified.

The corrupt and incompetent Barack Obama just needs to resign, that’s all there is to it. He’s in so far over his head, it’s like he’s in cement shoes on the bottom of the ocean.

Not even Rahm or Assrod can save him now, he will be a one-term, failed president, if that.

Karl, there is a disconnect when communicating with the left.

They’re stupid. All of them. They have no manners, no respect, no limits.

They’re stupid. All of them. They have no respect, no humility, no morals.

They’re stupid. All of them. They have no boundaries, no logic, no self-control.

They’re stupid.

Hey, baby, did you know that I, as an employee for the bloodsucking health ins industry, got 3 million dollars back from a physician who was billing fraudulantly? And that’s a drop in the water as health care fraud costs the consumer billions of dollars a year. Just ask about the Russian Mafia scheme in Southern California and the millions of dollars they bilked out of Medicare before an insurance company caught on….

But yeah, pigeonholing people as “bloodsuckers” and “Nazis” is totes the way to win their support and affection.

http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2009/08/alg-calls-for-special-prosecutor-re-obamas-union-thugs-.html

Americans for Limited Government President Bill Wilson today condemned the brutal beating of activist Kenneth Gladney in South St. Louis County, MO, at a town hall event sponsored by Congressman Russ Caranhan (D-MO) by SEIU members who Wilson said “appears to have been sent out purposely to intimidate the crowd and instigate violence.”>Wilson said that a Special Prosecutor would need to be called “to investigate the possibility of White House complicity in this union thuggery.” The White House told representatives and senators ‘punch back twice as hard’ against opposition to Barack Obama’s government-run health care initiative, and “clearly some of their followers took the message to heart,” Wilson said.

Karl’s money line, pun intended.

I’d like to see more people waving the CBO’s numbers and the statement that the deficits that will ensue as a result of this stink pile are “unsustainable.” I haven’t seen anyone on the left come up with anything close to a reasonable rejoinder to the CBO’s numbers.

The obvious problem for the Obama goons is their brain is too small to engage in debate. They have no choice than to do what goons do.

No one should be deterred by these goons. Stand your ground, use your cameras.

Is this how politics works in Kenya? Venezuela?

Any idea how much tort lawsuits cost the doctors, nurses, hospitals last year?

Any idea how much SEIU gave to obama’s campaign last year?
