Teddy Kennedy – Presidential Medal of Freedom winner

Let me just grind my teeth here a minute while you read this:
President Obama on Thursday named 16 people, including leading scientist Stephen Hawking and U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy, as the recipients of the 2009 Presidential Medal of Freedom, the White House said in a statement.
…
Senator Edward M. Kennedy has served in the United States Senate for forty-six years, and has been one of the greatest lawmakers – and leaders – of our time. From reforming our public schools to strengthening civil rights laws and supporting working Americans, Senator Kennedy has dedicated his career to fighting for equal opportunity, fairness and justice for all Americans. He has worked tirelessly to ensure that every American has access to quality and affordable health care, and has succeeded in doing so for countless children, seniors, and Americans with disabilities. He has called health care reform the “cause of his life,” and has championed nearly every health care bill enacted by Congress over the course of the last five decades. Known as the “Lion of the Senate,” Senator Kennedy is widely respected on both sides of the aisle for his commitment to progress and his ability to legislate.
So tell me, everyone. Is it for his ability to drive freely, not caring about where the road ends? Or is it his ability to swim free of a submersed car with an innocent woman inside?
Tell me, Senator, about Mary Jo Kopechne’s freedom. Did you contribute to hers, or did you drunkenly revoke hers?
Sorry, but I can’t really type more without having to censor most of my words.

But don’t even dare try to tell a liberal that he was a leading force behind No Child Left Behind.

Or, as Bill Ayers would say, “Guilty as Hell; free as a bird.”

Mary Jo Kopechne should receive the award posthumously. She made sure that Fat Ted would never be president. All it cost her was her life.

What a mix of metaphors that I have going through my head because of that.
Taking a back seat to Ted : All it cost her was her life.
Taking a bullet for us : She may have survived.

This is a joke that I’ve been holding onto since the William Kennedy Smith rape trial. After Will and Ted’s excellent adventure, Teddy takes William aside and says:
“Son, let me give you some advice. The next time you rape a girl, drown her.”
I guess the rat bastard is getting a presidential freedom from drowning in a car award. Mary Jo Kopechne was unavailable to receive her award.
