I don’t see how Collins can call himself an Evangelical Christian–this doctrine is the sine qua non of Deism, the religion of America’s Founders. Thomas Paine’s work The Age of Reason sums up Deist beliefs quite well.

I'm a Collins fan, but had to mull it over after learning of his appointment and his earlier endorsement of Obama.
