No Flyover at Christian Festival after 40 years—God and Country No Longer Supported by Your Government

posted at 10:25 am on July 9, 2009 by

Was Mr. Obama correct when he said “this is no longer a Christian Nation?”

When this Christian organization requested the flyover, they submitted the request for a portion of the festival where they were going to honor the military for protecting America and its constitution.  Apparently, our armed services, (under the present administration), has chosen not to participate after 40 years.  What’s changed?  Is this diversity and political correctness run amuck?   Further, is “In God We Trust” destined for the shelves of history books or Google archives?

An Idaho community had secured an Air Force flyover for its local festival every year for more than 40 years, organizers say, but this year, the Air Force turned the request down over the festival’s religious focus.

The God and Country Family Festival in Nampa, Idaho, applied to the Pentagon for the flyover but was denied in an e-mail, board member Patti Syme told KTBV. Syme said the e-mail from a defense official informed her the Pentagon prohibited support of special interest groups.

A defense department official told FOX News the Air Force denied the request because it violates a Pentagon policy against supporting any event “that provides a selective benefit to any individual, group, or organization, including any religious or sectarian organization, ideological movement, political campaign or organization, or commercial enterprise, to include a shopping mall or motion picture promotion.”  LINK

How long will it be before our government decides to replace every cross in Arlington where our fallen heroes made the ultimate sacrifice for God and Country? Is the Easter celebration, (where Christians recognize and rejoice in the crucifixion of Christ and His ascension into heaven), also destined for the “no longer in the public interest” list, when over 70% of Americans claim to believe in an entity higher than themselves? Have we “evolved” into a total secular nation that no longer respects or recognizes the writings of our founding fathers that felt it was important to allow public (and private) recognition of our religious beliefs without fear of persecution or government bias? Is Obama’s government so afraid or threatened to admit that there may be a power higher than themselves?

While some here, (including our resident atheist), will claim that no particular religion should be supported or recognized by public participation or publically owned property, (in this case, our U.S. Navel Air Force), then why even allow flyovers at our sporting events? How does a secular society, (that condones prohibiting religious events from using our public property for displaying our gratitude for God, Country, and our military), justify allowing a flyover at our baseball and football games or our auto racing events? Don’t even try to attempt to convince me that there aren’t “religiously motivated fanatics” in these events.

If the, (our), government had issued a response that explained under current economic conditions, it was prudent to conserve public expenditures and denied the flyover, this action may have been validated. But, by denying a Christian event to use our public property to recognize and rejoice in an American society founded on the principals of our creator, (and to salute our military for providing and protecting these principals), it is my opinion that our, (your), government has chosen to discriminate against one entity while ignoring or embracing other events. Something’s seriously wrong here. If this government is so “hell bent” on eliminating God from our society, why do so many politicians–including almost every President for over two hundred years–end their speeches with “AND GOD BLESS AMERICA”???

Ok let me get this straight:
Flyover at Ground Zero in NYC – OK
Flyover at public festival and salute to military (during war time no less) – Not OK
Flyover at NASCAR race – OK
Flyover at public festival and salute to military – Not OK

I’m seriously confused.

“Provides a selective benefit”?

What a load.

Ortzinator on July 9, 2009 at 11:09 AM

Maybe if the festival put up a big vero possimus banner it would be okay…

Physics Geek on July 9, 2009 at 11:51 AM

More than 70 new recruits from multiple branches were sworn in as part of the festival this year…

Enjoy being the Janissaries in Khalifa Obama’s army kids.

Shortsighted. Lame.

Those “God and Country” types?

They make up the bulk of enlistees in our armed forces.

Catch the interest of a young person with an fly over…and who knows where that young kid’s interests will carry him or her? There is a retired Air Force colonel down the road…an air show with USAF fighters in a flyover when he was very young carried him to the Air Force Academy, and then to the astronaut program, and he still holds the record for the number of space shuttle flights he flew.

Had it not been for that up close and personal viewing of awesome aircraft flying by when he was a young kid, he’d be like most of his elementary and high school friends…a local small farmer or working in a factory worried about retirement and paying the bills.

The public affairs people (and the legal beagles) are really overlooking opportunities.

Dumb.

Pam Baldwin, executive director of the Interfaith Alliance of Idaho, said there’s no basis for the assertion that the denial amounted to federal government discrimination against Christians.

“Everything is not about whether folks are Jews or Christians or Muslims,” she said. “If people are saying that, they’re probably looking for media attention or looking to disparage other faiths.

Got it. Those intolerant Christians are at it again.

“If people are saying that, they’re probably looking for media attention or looking to disparage other faiths.”

These people are such fanatics. They think that if YOU believe your faith is True, then you are disparaging other people’s opposing faiths. In other words they truly believe that if you believe something is TRUE,then you are a criminal who should be prosecuted for hate crimes infractions.

This is relativistic truth at it’s best: If you believe something is absolutely True..then you are an intolerant nazi.
It is such a shame that “non denominational” protestant christianity has been infected with the moral relativism of the 20th century.(i.e. all opposing and varying interpretations are true)

This is why protestantism will die out completely within the next 20 years.

The truly faithful christians will return to the one true historic and apostolic Church that Christ founded..the Orthodox Church.

See you in 21 years. Hopefully the Orthodox Church will have flourished. Pretty sure the Evangelical Protestant churches will have as well.

Anyone here support a flyover for Muslim Festivals?

Or should the Christian Higher Entity get more attention than the Muslim One?

I’m pretty sure many truly faithful Christians fled from these established, flawed churches dominated by bureaucrats.

Seems we’ve been doing a lot of that out in Fuzzystan.

Any festival/event that meets whatever the military criteria are, regardless of it’s faith basis, (or lack thereof.)

Those who don’t like religous intrusion into public life would do well to remember that discrimination against religion is just as corrosive as discrimination in the name of religion.

Dumbass, Muslims would claim they were being threatened, so yes, I would love for more flyovers at Muslim Festivals. Never know when we may need a strike.

WoosterOh on July 9, 2009 at 10:09 PM

Control Tower: Trapper-49er, can you make a flyby the Muslim Festival on your way over to the Christian one?

Pilot: Roger that. You want fast and furious, or slow and steady?

CT: Lets go with fandf this time. They were pointing last time, we like to make em scatter.

P: Roger

Glad you love the idea. I’ll take that as support for it.

Assuming the Muslim festival in question has a history of supporting the military, has a portion of its event specifically focused on the military, and has been granted flyovers for the last 40 years … OF COURSE I’d support it. Who wouldn’t?

I see…

Doesn’t this discriminate against religious festivals that are less than 40 years old?
