This at least partly explains her enemies’ rage over her unexpected decision to resign on short notice. She thereby eludes the trap they had laid for her. She returns to the status of private citizen, where malevolent rumormongers can’t cloak their slander in bogus expressions of concern about “ethics.”

I agree. The point guard is eluding the full court press and her enemies are mad.

Honestly, I think the pundits both professional, semi-pro, and amateur are repeating a lot of “common wisdom” in an echo chamber, reinforcing each other, but not looking at the world outside the navel-gazing world of political junkies. I can’t predict the future, but it’s quite possible this move will resonate very differently with the average American than with The Wise.
