Men mulling over the idea of running for high office often consult their families. Why shouldn’t Sarah Palin do so?

If she quit for her family’s sake, good for her! But it’s too bad she didn’t think of them while “mulling over the idea of running” for governor and then VP. Would she have abandoned her post of VP had the election gone the other way??? She has a commitment to her family, but she also made one to the people of Alaska. I’ve heard she’s been tweeting about the resignation today and hopefully she’s come out with something more reasonable than the lame-duck angle. If Matalin is right that this move is likely made to free Palin to give speeches and raise funds in preparation for a presidential run in 2012, will we hear that Palin polled her family again and they want her back in public office? Sorry Alaska!!! What if they change their minds again after she’s elected? Better make sure she has a great VP to take up the reins once President Palin reaches the inevitable status of being a lame duck. Sorry conservatives!!!

Does anyone feel that Sarah was being honest when she announced her resignation? I’ve been a supporter, but she lost me yesterday because she sounded like a run of the mill disengenuous politician. Her breath of fresh air has gone stale.

She did it because she is a normal person who did not sign up for a constant and financially ruinous campaign of vilification that extended to her family. The Palins are not rich. So the bastards won. Note that THEY made it impossible for her to do the job she was elected to do. So much for democracy.

I respect her reasons. What I do not respect is the nonsense about her being a “quitter” and not being able to “stand the heat”. Excuse me, but most politicans get an easy ride. The kitchen is not one percent as hot for, say, the clown Al Franken, or the corrupt Chris Dodd or the neurotic Barbara Boxer or … the list goes on and on. Take governors. Granholm was awful, no? Michigan lost jobs when everyone else was creating them and the reward? She was being considered for the Supreme Court! There is no heat!

The pundits who jabber about Palin not being “tough” will in the next minute complain that politics is the domain of rich, narcissist, lying machine politicians and their heirs. Well, duh! Being a normal citizen is downright harmful in politics. We get what we deserve.

I don’t think she is doing this as some amazingly clever political gambit, so I think she’s being fundamentally honest that the focus on her as some sort of public enemy #1 was hampering state business and that she wanted to be with her family and perhaps do more in the private sector. If she’s done with politics, she has my blessing. Best wishes to her family.

We’re going to be hearing all kinds of things regarding Sarah Palin in the next weeks from that she’s done with politics to that she’s gearing up for a run in 2012, to full bore Andrew Thullivan type looniness about why she’s done this. Right now only she and her family know the reasons. I don’t see it as the kind of thing where you just wake up one morning and decide to resign as governor. I think there has been a lot of thought put into it.

I wish her well whatever she decides, but am hopeful that she stays in politics.

I think she needs some time to recoup.

None of the other leading contenders – Huckabee (puke), Romney, Pawlenti currently hold office either – a big advantage.

Whatever she decides I support her – she didnt get to be govenor the old fashioned way either remember.
