How Do We Fix This?

In the midst of a sour economy marked by falling market values, rising unemployment, and the specter of rampant inflation, the House passes an economy-killing cap-and-trade bill, which will cost each American household thousands of dollars per year and plunge the American economy into an essentially permanent recession… all to address a hoax promoted with junk science, while ignoring foreign industry that will go on pumping out the “greenhouse gases” the bill purports to control. A supposedly impartial news network hands its air time over to the dominant political party, to promote a massive health-care scheme that will shove another trillion-dollar knife into the economy Congress voted to eviscerate today… and already we hear about special exemptions written into the deadly socialized medicine plan, for the benefit of powerful union allies of the Democrat Party. A confused president dithers for days as peaceful demonstrators are murdered on the streets of Iran, before finally coughing up the stern condemnation he should have offered weeks ago. Fourth of July invitations to the ambassadors of the murderous Tehran regime are finally rescinded, after days of leaving them on the table as festering insults to every American citizen who truly embraces the spirit of that noble holiday.
What can we do to fix this broken, dysfunctional government, before it does any more damage to the strength or honor of the country?
There are things the leadership of the conservative movement and Republican party should be doing. They should be giving the kind of press conferences that call attention to the miserable corruption of the Democrats – every American should know who Monica Conyers is, and why she belongs in prison. A properly informed public might demand the kind of investigation that could send her equally corrupt husband to join her behind bars. A conservative with deep pockets should consider buying one of the struggling cable news networks, or some dying liberal papers, and bring some more real journalism to the hungry ears of American voters. They could staff it with real investigative reporters, like Michelle Malkin. It might shame the lapdogs from the “mainstream media” out of their lovesick stupor.
Those are tasks for the political class, and patrons with big money. What can the rest of us do? First and foremost, personalize these outrages. Every representative from either party who voted for the cap-and-trade atrocity should be made to feel like a dead man walking. Recite the names every chance you get, and if you live in one of their districts, never miss an opportunity to remind your fellow voters what they have done. Let them know their representative voted to steal four thousand dollars from their family, as tribute to the weird state religion of radical environmentalism. Spread the anger at foolish politicians who vote on poisonous trillion-dollar bills without reading them, much less their last-minute 300-page amendments. Spread the worst sections of this ridiculous legislation through local newspapers, and shout pop quizzes about it to the cowardly representatives who didn’t bother to read it before they voted to beat American industry to death with it. Don’t relent on any of this if the Senate manages to kill the bill, and don’t let up the pressure on your Senators for a moment. We cannot afford politicians who vote for economy-crippling legislation, then hope their colleagues in the other house of Congress will kill it before it hardens into a tumor.
Remind your fellow Americans that this nightmare was unleashed by President Obama, who intends to personally execute the death warrant on their futures. This man thinks you’ve got $4000 too much in the bank, and he intends to take it. If you work in the manufacturing sector, he thinks your job belongs in another country. If you’ve been worried about the economy since last fall, here’s a man who thinks it should be 3% smaller every year, stretching decades into the future. We keep hearing that the increasing unpopularity of Obama’s policies has not dented his personal approval rating. That needs to change. Spread the word.
On foreign policy, tell the world that Barack Hussein Obama does not speak for the freedom-loving Americans who didn’t need to wait a week, and check some internal polling, before deciding to condemn the tyrannical Iranian regime. Obama should quietly and humbly stand behind the Americans who were bold enough to name the murderers of Neda Soltan evil while her blood was still wet on the ground. When he said that he wanted to wait and see who came out on top before he made a statement about the Iranian uprising, Obama forfeited all moral authority to speak on this matter. When he finally started to say the right things, days after he should have spoken, he only confirmed his poor judgement – is anyone other than Obama and his foreign-policy gurus surprised the tyrants of Iran spent the last few days perpetrating the crimes that finally compelled the President to speak up? Ignore him and speak for yourself – on blogs, Twitter, and any other way you can reach the eyes and ears of the Iranian people. We are braver, stronger, and more righteous than the man who unfortunately occupies the White House at the moment. Never let the world forget that he will be gone soon enough, but we will remain.
Build the party that will run against the Democrats in 2010, and hopefully put Obama behind us in 2012. Purify and strengthen that party. They will run against Democrat corruption, in the face of a savagely hostile media, so they must be honest and uncompromised. Make an example out of Mark Sanford for starters. He should begin every day facing local voters, and the larger national community of Republicans he once aspired to lead, who demand to know why he isn’t gone yet. There is no room for him in a party preparing to do battle with the ugly mess Democrats have created… a party that cannot escape its own responsibility for clogging up the chlorine tanks of the congressional cesspool in the latter Bush years. The voters need to know this is a different party – chastened, energized, and faithful in its commitment to restore a damaged nation. Help them acquire the discipline to complete that transformation, by letting them know you will settle for nothing less.
Finally, demand the alternatives. When you are told that only a trillion-dollar takeover by the representatives of a deeply corrupt political party can “save” health care, ask what the other options are. When you hear that a new “stimulus” bill might be in the works, ask if there are economic strategies more effective than blindly throwing around bags of taxpayer cash. When junk science is waved in your face as the excuse for naked power grabs, ask what the dissenting scientists are saying. The people trying to steal your freedom and prosperity are trying to shake you down with a false choice – either hand over your wallet or face oblivion. Never stop shoving them back against the wall, and demanding to hear about the alternatives they don’t want to discuss. We should always be willing to entertain a thoughtful presentation from someone who thinks they have the best plan for dealing with the challenges we face. We should never spare a single moment for someone who claims to have the only plan. No one with a truly good idea is afraid to talk about other options.

We the People are VERY, VERY angry!! We ALL know the true cost of your vote!! We ARE coming for ALL of you!! YOU WORK FOR US!! You voted for a massive 1,300 page bill that YOU NEVER READ!! You voted the largest tax hike EVER!! You voted for the largest expansion of government EVER!! The 1,300 page bill, that you never read, puts government in control of an additional(at best), 20% of this country’s economy!! You will NOT be given another chance!! We will ALL put our last, thin, tax weakened dollars into the campaigns of YOUR opponents!! It matters NOT to us whether there is an R or a D after their name!! It matters NOT to us which part of this great country you run in, because we are ALL in the United States of America!! We will boycott any product, service or business that run their ads with media/news outlets that are not doing the job of investigative reporting. We will close, transfer or cash out financial accounts of all kinds, we’ll shift investments and roll over retirement accounts, IRA’s, 401k’s, ect., all in an effort to keep our money from finding its way into YOUR campaign via their contribution! Every day I wake up and tell myself that this Administration, this Congress, this Senate and the sate run media can not possibly get any worse, until they do. Every night I fall asleep aware of the real fear I have for my children and the country we will leave them, but find comfort in knowing millions and millions of others also feel that fear, but ,like me, they also feel rising intensity of the spirit that will lead us through, what we know in our heart comes.

Dead on target Doc… The people’s revolution is upon us. I spent 3-nights this week writing Congress critters emails, and calling their offices. Alone I’m nothing, together we are a mighty powerful force. Eight Republicans voted for a bill that goes against our core values, goes against our core principles. These people are politically dead to me now. I’ll be letting them know that before this day ends. Then I will start in on the Democrats who voted yes on this attack against the people.
Might I also suggest a few actions that need to take place.
1> Peaceful protests to be held at every ABC building across the country.
2> Peaceful protest to be held at the home of every politician that is speaking to us by way of their votes. Forget their place of business, we march on their homes.
3> A peaceful march on every Federal building across the country; every race, every faith, every available American citizen.
4> Millions of letters, emails, and phone calls on a daily basis… Targets should not only be our political establishment. The news media is as much to blame as are the politicians. Anything and everything that has the fingerprints of Soros. Undo the spider web that Soros has built.
5> Our true leaders; Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck, and all. These folks have the microphone for the moment, and these folks need to name the names repeatedly, day after day after day. Name the names of those responsible. Soros is only one of the responsible parties. Who are those in Hollywood that are brokering the thug tactics upon their own, squashing careers that do not tote the line? What businesses are quietly financing those who’s names must be made public? What are the names, addresses, and phone numbers to the sister organizations of ACORN?
Enough from me, must drink coffee and get started on those POS Republicans who stabbed us in the back last night out of pure selfishness and personal pursuit of power.

From my perspective only, of coarse…
Without leaders, organizers, managers, we’re left to our own devices. Those with the microphone, those who are in position to lead must come forward. Rush and many others talk to us and do a good job educating us on the topics & issues facing us; however, the time for educating has passed. It’s now time to lead. If these folks refuse to lead, name names, and help to organize, then other leaders must emerge immediately. Congress and the WH are rushing through legislation that will cripple us for generations to come. The revolution must begin now in my opinion.
This is a fight, a street fight. Really hard times are upon us. Fear and uncertainty are the ingredients these politicians are using to bring us in line. They count on us being complacent long enough for them to shut down our lines of communication.
In my home, we have been stocking up on canned food for the past several months. We have protected what money we have left to the best of our abilities. We started reducing our overhead last September when it became obvious that Obama would become our potus. My oldest son just completed his 2nd year of college, and is prepared to come back home and help us financially, as well as take to the streets.
Beyond that Stacy, I’m at a loss. I’ve never seen anything like this before, therefore I have no experience to draw from. I do have faith in the American people, in the American dream.

Thank you, some of those things I have begun doing, some I need to. I am glad that we live in the deep south. I imagine things may be worst in the north east and the west coast, big cities mostly. I don’t believe that we will make it to the 2010 elections or if we did that they would not be fair with groups like ACORN and the Black Panthers helping. You’re right, I have never seen anything like it before and I often wonder how it will play out. My kids are all in Texas with my ex and I am relieved they will be there over the 4th, because I sense the 4th may be a very telling and enlightening day for this country. I do know, without any doubt, that it IS time for “We the People” to rise up and take our country back, I’m just not sure we will.

Faith comes in many shapes and forms Stacy. I have lost all faith in our government, as corruption, selfishness, ego’s, and lust for power rule the day for these people. However, I remain faithful in the American people, the American dream. Without this faith, I would be without a rudder.
Our government has become sick, very sick. The battle between good and evil will always be worthy of the righteous fight. I must believe that the people will rise up against evil as has been the case throughout history.

I never thought I’d say anything like this, but I’m afraid that Dick Morris and Glen Beck are closest to the truth about what’s going on. (That practically hurt my fingers to type.)
At least ask yourselves if Obama understands what he’s doing to his chances of getting elected for a second term. Is he really that stupid? I don’t think so. I DO think he’s ignorant and blind, but not THAT stupid.
He’s setting things up to ensure that either he gets re-elected either through schemes (illegal aliens, skewed electoral college due to crooked census, union workers, etc.), or because he creates an economic crisis so massive that people get violent and he can declare martial law — after which he ushers in the most radical socialist government you can imagine as a “solution” to the problems.
Regardless, it’s no accident we’re heading for a big crash, and that crash will come unless we can stop it SOON.

About 12 months back, I told my wife that I couldn’t listen to Glenn Beck anymore, that he has gone off the deep end while entering into a twilight zone of some kind.
I was dead wrong, and Glenn has been dead right all along.
I tuned my radio back into the Beck show about 3 months ago, and I have spanked myself several times for having doubted him. It is “we” who have entered into the twilight zone as of January of 2009.

I sent Glenn Beck a link and summary of the Cloward-Piven strategy (summary: orchestrate a crisis in order to destroy capitalism and give yourself the opportunity to enforce socialism). Later that week, he actually included an explanation of the Cloward-Piven strategy in one of his TV shows. I don’t know if I helped or it was coincidence, but we’re thinking along the same lines.
He gives Obama more of the benefit of the doubt than I do, but I really do think Obama is deliberately doing as much damage as possible. If I’m right, and Obama is out to collapse the economy in order to “rescue” it with full-blown socialism, Cap & Trade will help Obama reach his goals, and Obamacare could be the last nail in the coffin.
As an aside, the collapse of the dollar would benefit Obama’s biggest contributor of all, George Soros. George Soros is a currency speculator who makes TONS of money by betting against the dollar. Coincidence? IMO, definitely not.

Geithner – he is the only person in the world qualified to run the Treasury Department.
Porkulus – the only way to save the United States from economic doom.
Cap & Trade – the only way to save the environment for future generations.

What was in the bill in general? Was there anything in the bill that really struck him as extremely important? highly unnecessary? What exactly put him over the edge to vote yes?
I’ll try to make sure I have an alternative task to complete while I wait around for the non-answer.

Didn’t complete my thought there; I wanted to say that it is now completely transparent that the majority of Washington DC is more concerned about their political careers than actually representing their country/constituents.
I’m so upset that my kids will never know the freedoms their mother and I experienced growing up, that my generation has destroyed their future, burdened them with a debt they’ll never be able to pay, cursed them with a healthcare system that will inevitably endanger them or their progeny, and placed them into a political system that will enslave them…

Part of this supposes that the congressional Republicans want to win; but do they really want the responsibility that goes with power, or are they happy as a minority so long as they get their perks? I suspect that any strategy that hopes for a take-charge Republican congressional delegation may be disappointed.

I think it’s high time for the Republican party to get serious about marketing their message. It was Bush 43’s biggest weakness. He owned the bully pulpit (as Rush says), and yet he was highly ineffective getting in front of the people and vigorously communicating his message. We need a David Axelrod in the Repub. party to be creative and aggressive with marketing the brand.

A friend of mine threw a birthday party for his 9 year old daughter the day……….

During the party, people were talking about Michael Jackson, and economy here in California, when I spoke up about what is actually going on in the halls of power in Washington, D.C………….
…….. It was like I was telling a ghost story to a group of Boy Scouts around a camp fire.
All were horrified in what they were hearing, but no one could actually come to believe that our “government” would be doing anything so sinister…………

It was easier to shut out what I was telling them and have another glass of wine……..

I think it may take another Revolution to turn this country around; something like we saw in Poland and Russia.
When our government no longer serves the people as our founders intended and instead represses and enslaves us…..it’s time to end this government and return it to the people. As one of the few remaining Illinois Republicans, I can promise that Lisa Madigan, and possibly Roland Burris, and maybe even Blago, would receive my vote before Mark Kirk for Senator at this point. At least they’re honest (in Blago’s case, honestly crooked) . . . Of course, given the IL Republican Party’s suicidal lunacy, that’s exactly what will happen. I’ll send my two cents to them anyway, for what it’s worth.

You have at your fingertips right this instant one of, if not the most powerful weapons available- the Internet.
Take this site as an example. It has national exposure. It has a reasonably intelligent and articulate leadership and membership.
Imagine if, as a tiny example, one of those boxes up there contained a call to arms of sorts on an issue that was near and dear to most peoples’ hearts. Let’s say it’s this cap and trade monstrosity.
Now let’s say that in that box were posted the e-mail addresses of all Congress critters. Maybe even some sample letters to fire off to them.
It’s a tiny example, but there exists the potential for much much more.
People are craving a way to have an impact- witness the Tea Parties.
Step up to the plate.
The internet will be a helluva lot easier than a shooting war, if it comes to that.

Unfortunately, the trouble with most of the American people is that they are fast asleep when it comes to politics. They work their 9 to 5 jobs, pick up the kids from daycare and rush home to dinner, open a box of Kraft Mac & Cheese and make the kids some Hot Dogs….then baths, homework and off to bed. The only politics they see is something that John Steward makes a joke about. They fall asleep the alarm goes off and it’s back to the grind.
Most young people I talk to haven’t a clue and could literally care less about politics. They think that it doesn’t affect them. They really don’t know much about government or how it works…they just think it’s cool that we have a black President. All they care about is a paycheck every two weeks and keeping their job…maybe taking their kids to soccer practice.
Unfortunately, until all of this hits them smack up against their heads, they’re going to remain clueless. I’m afraid by the time America wakes up, it may be too late to put the Genie back in the bottle.

Unfortunately, none of this is so simple. Not without a plan.
I don’t mean a plan for effecting a revolution – peaceful or otherwise; I mean a plan for our future government. Even if our current government were “thrown off”, what would replace it, and how could the people ensure that the same usurpations and corruptions do not again undo it. It is not as simple as starting from scratch with only the Constitution as guide. (we already tried that … remember?)
If term limits are necessary, do we wait for the full amendment process while trying to re-institute a federal government?
Shall we revisit all Supreme Court decisions since Marbury v Madison? What will we do about the ambiguity within the Constitution itself regarding the proper place of the Supreme Court and inferior courts?
Further, there are centuries of social, commercial, and technical advances that would be undone — most, no doubt, for the better; but some for the worse. Could certain developments in America that the majority not only accepts, but relies upon, be kept in place while undoing those things which have perverted the U.S. Constitution and the principles of this nation’s founding? Should they be kept in place? This is not so simple a question in the case of certain things which have become indispensible to the American economy and way of life, but which have always been accomplished through the power of the Federal Government — even though such power was never legitimate under the Constitution.
What about the Interstate Highway system?
What about, for example, food safety under the USDA? The USDA itself (and the entire Administrative State) is an abomination within the context of the U.S. Constitution. But, will it still be necessary (and expected by the citizenry) to be assured of food safety and purity under a more Constitutionally “pure” government? Do we need to re-read Sinclair’s The Jungle? Cobble together a new Constitutionally prohibited means of solving this definite and unavoidable problem?
Do we need a Federal Government? Shouldn’t we revisit the Federalist/Anti-Federalist debate after witnessing how horribly the Federal Government has failed, and how ineffectual the Federalists’ promises against abuses have proved to be? Shall we Balkanize?
Before wondering “what to do”; I advise everyone to think about what they want AFTER they “do” something. Heading into a revolution (peaceful or otherwise), or even into demonstrations without knowing EXACTLY what you would replace the flawed system with, makes about as much sense as voting for “change” without ever bothering to question the KIND of “change”. If you’d like to get rid of the government we have — I only beg you to think about what you want to replace it with BEFORE going and protesting anyone, anything, or anywhere.
What is needed is a new Constitutional Convention — but not one open to all, and certainly not including ANYONE already holding political (or administrative) office. The best CONSERVATIVE/Libertarian thinkers in the nation must be tasked with the job of re-writing our Constitution. There may even be several versions. But, each version of a new Constitution must contain improved checks and balances, and more definitely articulated protections against usurpations of power. Those who want to “provide new guards” for the security of their unalienable rights would organize and back one or the other of these versions.
This nation must be re-made. But, re-made in its own ORIGINAL image and with its own ORIGINAL founding principles more firmly defined and protected from abuse and corruption. We therefore need an improved U.S. Constitiution with improved protections for the rights and principles of the original. Our rights and founding principles must be re-affirmed, and stronger, better (and WRITTEN) guards provided for them.
What we need is a RE-CONSTITUTION.

I joined the GOP in 1972 the first year I was eligible to vote. The GOP “left” me in 2002. With what I have seen since then, I don’t plan on realigning with the “leftist lite” Party anytime soon. I will support solid conservatives in my district and elsewhere but the GOP is dead to me now. The GOP treachery didn’t just lose me but also my wife, daughter, son and daughter-in-law. I know this has played out in many families in the same way.

Another great post. Thanks for keeping us motivated. It’s true, we’ve got to do more, and we’ve got to stay focused on what we are doing. You’ve made some good points here.
I believe that the biggest reason that Obama is in the white house is because the liberals used the internet so forcefully. I’m not sure McCain had much of an internet strategy at all beyond his own web page and his daughter’s blog.
The comment sections of the mainstream media sites on the Internet were overwhelmingly lonely for a conservative last fall. I don’t think we can let that happen again in another election cycle. Even The Economist, a magazine that usually leans to the right, the overwhelming majority of commenters and people recommending comments were people condemning Bush for everything and critical of conservative ideas in general. I couldn’t register with HotAir until the day before the Election. But I am grateful that it was here. Thanks to Ed, Michelle, Allah for their hard work. This was the only site where I could find a good dose of conservative commentary.
It will be important to access sites that moderates and independents read and to share your views. I see so many insightful comments made here. There are many people in HAC (hot air community) in addition to DoctorZero who can offer good judgement, though for sure he’s one of the best. But it’s all on HotAir. As the election gets closer, say within four or five months of voting, maybe earlier, as independents, moderates, and undecideds start to read to make up their minds, get out there and make your ideas and comments seen on sites they view.
Then remember to come back and spend time at HotAir, click ads, help feed Ed and Allah and Michelle and give them money – I’m not trying to move traffic away.

Tea Parties or other protests need to be held not at Statehouses or in parks, but outside News buildings — whether it be ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN national headquarters or local broadcasters.
If you think that the Democrats in Congress, or Obama in the White House are your enemy, you’re mistaken. The true enemy exists in two places: 1) the Media, and 2) Academia.
These are the institutions which CONTROL Public Sentiment.
I often use this Abe Lincoln Quote:
To some extent, the Government is still “by the People”. But with the lies, distortion, proseletyzing, propaganda, indoctrination, and out-and-out brainwashing of the bulk of the People by the media and academia, what “the People” want or don’t want is firmly controlled.
But if the stranglehold on Public Sentiment held by the media can be broken, the politicians who abuse this nation could be exposed for what they are. The emperor would have no clothes. It is the media providing cover which makes everyone so impressed with the emperor’s nonexistent clothing.
In short, if you’re going to protest anything or demonstrate anywhere — do it to the MEDIA.
After all, who is it who refuses to provide “media coverage” for all of the Tea Parties to date? More un-reported (and therefore, largely ineffective) Tea Parties? Or daily marches outside the places where these F**kers work?
PS – I also like the idea of protesting outside homes; but try getting close to (or even locating) the Washington D.C. home of your Senator. The homes of reporters might be a good place to start.

The problem with a new constitutional convention is that in the current political climate it would go the wrong way. I’m afraid that people in this day and age don’t hold their freedoms dear because they never really had to fight for them. The have neglected their freedom just like they have neglected so many things in life because it was simply handed to them. They didn’t have to earn, they didn’t have to fight for it. However, a new and brave generation is coming and that generation will appreciate their freedom because they will fight for it. Are you part of that generation?

Hey, here’s a thought: instead of these stupid protests, which don’t accomplish much of anything, how about focusing on Congressional elections next time around, as opposed to fighting over who’s the least of the two evils in the drama-filled circus we call “Presidential elections”? And you know what? We won’t have to worry about said circus in 2010, so here’s our chance to not get distracted. Oh, and another thought: how about voting based upon principle vice party? (I know, this is a radical thought…) I’ve got news for you: Republicans don’t care about “conservatives”. Why? Because Republicans know you’ll always vote for them, mainly because they know you’ll never vote Democrat nor “waste your vote” on a third-party. So instead of being the country’s sheep, why not vote on the principles you say you espouse?

One of the first things I’d like to see become part of a new Re-Constitution is a amendment to our founders original Constitution, that of a “Separation of Government and Commerce” just as we have “Separation of Church and State”. We need to establish Laissez-faire Capitalism for the first time in this country. It is the Producers, inventors, scientists, manufacturers, small business and entrepreneurs of this country who develop the products the world needs. It’s about time that we as a country side with business and commerce to be allowed to trade freely around the world without the burden of massive government regulation hanging around our necks like concrete blocks and then telling business to swim with them on. It is commerce and the spirit of the businessmen who will bring this country out of the abyss of this deep recession NOT GOVERNMENT. GOVERNMENT in itself doesn’t create anything except laws and regulations that hold this country back from greatness. We should also limit the size of Government as well. It, like AIG, has grown to immense proportions that has it’s hands inside everyones pockets. They should not be allowed the fruits of our labor unchecked as they currently are. This I think is the biggest crime against our nation. The Government is a beast who’s appetite for our hard earned labor is insatiable.
Also, I would recommend that our elected representatives to Congress be limited to two terms as with the President. If it’s good enough for our President, it should be good enough for Congress too. Service to our country should be an honor to serve and not a profit motive as it is today. There should be no pensions allowed with any public office. After someone serves they should go back to their community and go back to a real job that helps produce something rather than to take from hard working Americans who toil daily to get ahead.
Instead of putting successful people down, we should all praise those who are coming up with new inventions and companies that will raise all of our standards of living. We as a nation should shun those who only want a handout. Let’s put this country back to work on the right footing this time and limit Government to providing for our defense, providing infrastructure, protecting our borders and providing education in a competitive environment which rewards success, allowing people to take their children to the schools of their choosing and not the governments. Let’s bring back accountability by bringing forth competition. These are some of the thoughts that I have this evening.

As the founders intended? We are no longer the people of our founders time. A soon to be hispanic democratic nation thats 3x larger than the country of our founders need not govern itself “as the founders intended”, but rather using the founders framework and adapting it to current needs. Now, we may disagree on how best to adapt the prerogative of the federal government to best fit our needs…but to insist that – because the political party you don’t like is in control – we must dismantle the union is lunacy.
One can identify as many strict constitutional “missteps” during republican stewardship of government as democratic. Lest we forget our nation has seen real high crimes perpetrated by its government and not “revolted” on the level of Poland.
If you consider economic mismanagement a high crime, then I insist you are weak willed and unprincipled, as surely you would have been revolting already.

When speaking of following the founders’ intentions, and not their finished product, one cannot simply ignore their culture or history, or the makeup of the nation they were forming. Similarly, one cannot issue a blanket definition as to the founders’ intentions.
My point was merely to illustrate that we are not the country we were in 1776. We are not landowning whites and slaves, we do not argue about politics based on British common law and the customs of hundreds of years ago.
We have become something altogether different than the country of our founders. This has already occurred. To insist now that we have crossed some revolutionary threshold in our deviation from the founders’ intent is to be ignorant of that.
And please, try not to take the hispanic thing personally…it wont be as bad as some people make it seem

The framers of the Constitution were concerned that the Government they were establishing might become drunk with the power given to them and thought that if this Government became to oppressive by taking away our freedoms, property or the hard earned fruits of our labor, that the people could take back those privileges that were given to them. They wanted Government that was for and by the people.
As to your assertion that we are no longer a people of our founders time, I believe that the rights given to us by this precious document of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness make this nation the envy of the World. Although our country is over 200 years older, it is these very principles that has allowed our country, with the freedoms given to us by this document, to be the most powerful and advanced nation on Earth. You will never see Americans jumping onto rafts, trying to escape this country for the hope and freedom of another. There is no other country on Earth who would make the self sacrifices that our men and women of our military have made though our blood to help in securing the freedom of others.

I’ve been using Facebook to disseminate news that Hotair sleuths find, but that is invisible to many people. For example, the other day Hotair linked a story about how in many Arab countries democracy advocates are envious of what’s going on in Iran. There was a great quote in that story from an Egytian activist who has recently been released from jail, complaining about Obmama’s silence. So I make up a little heading “What Obama says DOES matter!” followed by the quote from the Egyptian activist which I cut and pasted, and then I linked the article for anyone to read whose attention was caught. I do this sometime four times a day. I prefer to use the source articles, because they have names recognizable to readers–WaPo, NYT, Telegraph, etc, as opposed to Hotair and other blog names. A lot of times people ignore them, but often I get responses and I can get into back and forths with people. Hotair has already done so much of the heavy lifting–a few cut and pastes, plus a sentence or two to set it up, and voila! you’re an illegal immigrant–doing the job that the MSM doesn’t want to do
People need to see this stuff, and it also helps them realize what a lousy job their own media sources are doing. Of course if people ask me how I have the time to find all this stuff, I direct them to hotair.

One issue mentioned may have a different spin than assumed. The bribery charge against Monica Conyers, while deserved, was chump change, and must be compared to some of the folk Justice has recently protected, like certain black power characters who were given a pass for voter intimidation and told not to do it again.
A recent radio program about the case suggested the M.O. of the prosecutors in the Monica Conyers case was typical of feds fishing for a bigger player. I have been mulling why she was not protected by Washington. In March Her husband had called for hearings into the behaviour of Acorn. Was that because his wife was being squeezed by the Feds, or did his call for a hearing trigger the decision to hit her with a less than earth shaking set of charges
The charges were big enough shake her career but small enough give an easy plea bargain. Cat with mouse. What could happen if someone keeps yapping about Acorn?
Not as if those that be are shocked by her finances. She merely set herself up to be taken down, as needed
The use of the law when there is gain, and ignoring the law as needed the the real corruption that has afflicted both parties. Ignoring border law and immigration rules is not trivial. It is a sympton of selective application of the law, a disease that is sweeping the parties and disfiguring our nation. It is this slide away from equal application of the law that is sparking the corrupt scheming in both parties.
We need to get back to rule of law or we will not need a Congress.

The opposite of Democrat is not necessarily Republican. Perhaps the only way to bring Washington’s excesses under control is to have the individual states re-assert their sovereignty over domestic matters. One way to do this would be to repeal the XVIIth Amendment, the one that provides for popular election of senators, and go back the system of having the state legislatures select the two senators from each state as originally intended by the Founding Fathers. This might put an end to the careerist politician who, once in Washington D.C., forgets who he represents. It would almost certainly increase the turnover over senators and may encourage the best and brightest among us to cap a successful private career with a term of public service.

The root of the problem, in my opinion, is the MSM/DNC Cabal. If the American people weren’t so
uninformeddeliberately misinformed about the ramifications of all this they’d already be up in arms.Years ago (Newt’s era) I think the tide might have been turned if the Republicans had consistently and aggressively confonted media bias, but they just shrugged their shoulders and pretended it didn’t matter so the cabal members were emboldened, and it just kept getting worse.
Now I’m not sure we can turn it around. The Dems are moving so fast on so many fronts right now and the populace is asleep at the wheel. After the crash most of them will be unwilling to let go of those cushy entitlements that were passed and with the cabal running most of the information outlets any politician who tries to “take _____ away from ____ to benefit the greedy _____” will be voted out of office for lack of empathy.
With the MSM/DNC Cabal playing both opponent and referee I don’t see how we can win in the near term. Your plan, while solid, relies on word of mouth and blogs, which isn’t even close to providing a counterweight to ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, New York Times, Hollywood and the rest of them.
The truth doesn’t really matter when nobody knows it.

Raise a huge stink about the three hundred million tons of garbage from San Francisco dumped into the Pacific through their storm drains. It floats in a huge mass between CA and HA. If Pelosi is so damned strung out on global warming she should be held accountable for allowing this mess to continue in her backyard. None of the garbage is biodegradable. It washes up on the Islands, pollutes the beaches, and no one in the media says one word. I just despise that self righteous hypocrite.

I hate to rain on your outrage parade and “lets rally and fix our broken government cry”, but its really long past too late.
Our economic and political freedoms have been slipping through our hands for decades. More people work for government than in all of American manufacturing now. As of this year, the states themselves obtain the bulk of their revenues from the Washington. There is no going back.
Even in the heyday of conservatism, the Reagan years, the growth of government continued unabated. True, we cut tax rates and maybe we slowed the rate of growth of centralization of power somewhat, but the overall trendline for decades is and has been statism — more government, less freedom.
Several reasons: Its alot easier to get elected if you promise people more stuff – “We’ll take it from the rich who don’t deserve it anyway” How can the conservative compete against that message. Jefferson said that it would be the end of the republic if the people ever figured out they could vote themselves money. Well, this is the end, my friend.
What held the left back for sometime were our traditional moral and religious principals which kept individual responsibility and personal accountability at the forefront. This is why it has been so important for leftists to destroy our traditional values. They were for decades an important break on the fullfillment of their collectivist goals. Our tithes now go to the State; the State is the new God which will be worshipped. Obamas proposal to end charitable deductions to religious organizations so that the ultimate and final arbitor of charity should be no suprise to anyone.
Every failure of govenment intervention — healthcare, welfare, housing (FNMA, Freddie Mac), public schools — you name it — becomes an excuse to do more of what doesn’t work. The problems at the forefront of the public mind, our current recession brought on by the housing debacle and out of control health care costs, were not failures of the market. On the contrary, they were the direct result of the intrusion of government into the free market. But in both cases, the solutions that the public will support will result in more interventions and spiriling failure.
Government run schools can now indoctrinate children in the ways of the State. Our children now from an early age are indoctrinated in the State religion — from praise of the homosexual lifestyle, to global warming to disdain for all traditional values. Obama and the teachers unions will be moving quickly now to extinguish that one ray of educational hope that is homeschooling.
The Left by one means or another will gain control of the public airwaves. It may not be though the “Fairness Doctrine”, but talk radio is a threat that the Statists will soon seek to eliminate. True the internet will be harder, but watch out there too.
Hayek said that socialism was a much greater threat to individual liberty that communism because it was incremental. Each year, with each decade, under Democrat of Republican the trend toward centralization has continued. Many will join you George, many will use their spare time more wisely. I choose to fight. Millions of us felt the same way during the Carter years, broken down by Liberalism. We got rid of the moron and Reagan emerged. What followed was truly a beautiful example of American exceptionalism. Reagan is gone, but we remain. It’s the “we” that these Liberals fear so much. Don’t believe me, just look at how they fear Sarah Palin.

George nails it, of course. The power to tax and to control the tax code, spelled the end of individual liberty. With each incremental measure, more monies were shifted to the government apparatus requiring more people work for the government. Rinse, repeat.
We’re screwed unless a passionate minority decides on violent revolution. But, of course, that’s not going to happen because “security” sucks the passion out of the citizenry.
You might blame air conditioning, too. Yeah, I’m not kidding. Before air conditioning,the POSs that infest the swamp called Washington D.C. didn’t want to spend a whole lot of time there.

George, what a wonderful and though provoking intellect you have my friend. I think that your overall message to this blog and to anyone else who reads it is hard to refute….but having said that, I don’t want to believe that the freedoms and Liberty that we Americans say we hold so dear, can be so easily washed away by the left. I want to believe that the smoldering fires of our outrage at what is happening to our country can be fueled by the right people and turned into a raging fire that cannot be so easily put out. I want to believe that the outrage we feel is also being felt in the heartland of our country and that our countrymen are waiting for someone of power and persuasion to stand up and start a movement to take this country back from the Abyss.
The only one I know and respect for his knowledge, understanding of our forefathers intent and has the ability to garner the airwaves with his message is Newt.

Another great post.
What can we do? Until the Republicrat party “grows a pair”, this express train to ruin will continue hurtling headlong into the abyss. The left, giddy with power will continue to ram excrement legislation through this gubmint “while they still have the muscle”. Without exposing the corruption of the left and a complicit media, I with a heavy heart agree with george h.
The Republicans should go to the floor of the Senate and the floor of the House and with charts and visual displays and name the lawless, corrupt examples of the left. They should also clearly and boldy cite example after example of media corruption. The Republicans should repeatedly sponsor legislation to limit terms for House Reps and Senators, as well as Federal judges. The Republicans have utterly failed to lay blame for the current economic calamity where it belongs; the sub-prime market meltdown originated with the collapse of Fanny and Freddy, all due to failed leftist policy. Exposing this to the public will disarm the leftist mantra that this is “Bush’s fault”.
The Republicans will do none of this. They are timid and weak. They are afraid to risk this bold action because they want to hold onto their seats. Until these people realize they WORK FOR US, nothing will change.
Finally, until this country restores GOD FEARING, moral leadership, we are doomed. ALMIGHTY GOD blessed the founders of America. The further we drift away from GOD and his word, the less we will be blessed. For many years we have sent corrupt people to Washington to represent us. As long as our 401k’s and the economy was chugging along, we looked the other way. Now, because our prosperity is threatened, we are outraged. Shame on us. We keep sending thieves, liars, hypocrites and bastards to D.C. and expect a good result. People know more about Britney, Jacko and Susan Boyle than they do about the pathetic bill that passed the House on Friday.
I say to you all that put your faith in men or a political party, your faith in man or party is misplaced and you will be dissapointed.
My heart breaks for America. Please pray for the America that is disolving before our eyes.

I have an idea. Michelle Malkin…if you or your staff are monitoring these passionate responses this morning, why don’t we use your ability to garner news by at least FOX….and let’s put together a panel of speakers from this blog who could be used as common American spokespeople by you to go on television to a program like Glen Beck, Hannity or Bill O’Reilly to discuss our very issues. Maybe you could turn this idea into a weekly roundtable discussion on these shows to show the American people that all is not lost. If we could use the power of a friendly network like FOX to whip up the people, we might be able to start a Revolution to take back this country. What do you think????

As for life, liberty and happiness, America as a people have already come to the conclusion that the federal government should exert real influence over the quality of life and services here in America. A majority of Americans do not want to see a radically scaled down federal government…so i mean y’all can try and whip something up and sure the libertarian message is resonating with my generation (early 20’s internet people), but by and large America’s political culture is not one of self reliance outside of a strong central government. Times, and people, change.
As for the racial business, you made a big mistake assuming im mexican. Mexican’s dont name their kids Ernesto, Puerto Ricans and Europeans do. Im PR, and my entire family, even back on the island, are citizens. My grandparents came here late enough to never really grasp english, but my 12 aunts and uncles all speak it, as do all my cousins, as do any students that go through the US education system (even the illegal kids). i dont even speak spanish.
Also, theres way more legal hispanic immigration than there is illegal. Its not all about illegals leeching services, its about the character, the culture, of the nation. It will be English speaking, for sure, but we’ll make the transition from white european nation to latin american nation in my lifetime. Its a slow, inevitable “facts on the ground” situation. Sorry if that bothers you, but if you have any kids, they’ll probably be dating a spanish guy/girl anyways, so get used to it now

Very revealing comments. The quality of the human is not based upon the color of his/her skin. I’m all for quality humans no matter the color, race; whether they are beautiful, plain, or ugly. If you’re a person of integrity, a person that holds similar values to those held close to the American spirit, then come here and make our country a better place.

Doctor Zero, as always, an excellent topic, cogently presented. In your preamble, you ask this;
Further down in your post, you identify this as one of the things we can do;
I agree, and I’ve put a strategy for this on other threads:
1. Identify the core principals we all can agree on – for starters:
A. Fiscal Conservatism
B. Smaller Government
C. American Exceptionalism
D. A Defense Policy/Foreign Policy that recognizes our vital place in the world
E. A strong stand in defense of freedom and liberty
F. Support for free-market capitalism as the vital engine of our economy
G. Energy independence
Then, we can agree to disagree on some of the issues that won’t easily be resolved (for example, faith vs. unbelief.)
And we can rigorously enforce the 11th commandment.
We also need to avoid the propensity to do two damaging things;
1. We cannot afford to waste time labeling each other – no more paultards vs. paliniacs, or what have you. If you want to wear a label you’ve given yourself, fine; but no name-calling.
2. We can’t spend time tearing down someone else preferred candidate or spokesman. Keeping our powder dry is important.
You also challenge us to do this;
I couldn’t possibly agree more. We must insist on choices, and options, and work to defeat any bill that is presented as the only way, or a bill that must be passed now!
I’d like to see a working group here (since this seems to be a place where thoughtful folks can both disagree and work together) come up with a framework for this.
