Who Will Be the Bad Guys in the ‘Red Dawn’ Remake?

What made the original “Red Dawn” movie so creepy was that it seemed plausible, and if the remake is played correctly and updated for the times and the threats we face, it could set the same tone of frightening realism — unless… well, I’ll get to that in a minute:
On the heels of yesterday’s casting announcements, LatinoReview has exclusively learned that Tony Gilroy, the oscar nominated writer/director of Michael Clayton (and one of my top five favorite all time screenwriters) has come aboard to rewrite MGM/UA’s remake of RED DAWN!
The threats we face today are a little different (not to mention more numerous) than when the original “Red Dawn” was made — so what angle should the remake take?
For the Red Dawn remake to be plausible and not predictable, it would be interesting to focus on the internal threats that could bring America down — because many of them are already in positions of government power.
A film focusing on these threats and a revolution against them would be a welcome respite from the usual dated “invasion” fare.
But… creating such a film would require casting politicians like “you-know-who,” along with the ultimate consequences of their actions and inactions, in a bad light.
Tony Gilroy, who’s been hired to write and direct the remake, probably won’t focus on those things I mentioned, because that would require an honest examination of the blind hope and false change (or is that false hope and blind change?) that may be leading to disaster. Gilroy would appear to be a big fan of you-know-who, so maybe it’s safe to assume the villians in the updated version of the movie will definitely not be Islamofascists or liberal Democrats.

Americans vs. reconquista illegal aliens in the US Southwest.

My money’s on guys with pro-life, pro-gun, and anti-illegal immigration bumper stickers.
Anybody contacted John Milius for comment yet?

You know, Hollywood could screw up a bread sandwich.

I think I read that it was going to be the Chinese. But one of the Americans is going to be a veteran who fought in Iraq and is convulsed with guilt about it.

Oh, that’s easy:
Red State Dawn.
All the fearers of Jesusland will be delighting in a frisson of horror.

Written by the guy who came up with Michael Clayton?
I have a very, very bad feeling about this…

The film will depict a desperate struggle between hot young Hollywood stars, and a sinister cabal of super-religious Bible-thumping gay-hating people, elderly Inspector Generals in the early stages of senile dementia, Fox News reporters, and former Republican vice-presidents. The villains will command a vast horde of Sarah Palin’s descendants. The heroes will be on the ropes until a wise Latina appears in the third reel, to lead them to victory.
On the bright side, Christian Bale will be in it, because he’s in everything. He’ll have an exciting climactic duel with Jude Law, who used to be in everything.
I can predict with nearly metaphysical certainty that one of the Wolverines will be a Muslim, whose family will be the victim of abuse by ignorant hayseeds in an early establishing scene.
The ending credits will roll over footage of emergency medical technicians trying to save John Milius after his heart attack.

Oh, and they won’t even try to recast Powers Boothe… because there’s only one Powers Boothe.

This remake will suck ass. Buy the video game “Homefront” that was written by John Milius instead. It features North Korean/Chinese funded bad guys.

I’ll be shocked if the threat isn’t portrayed as coming from theocratic, right-wing fanatics, and if they’re really ham-handed and hackey, they may even make the president look a little like Rush Limbaugh or Bill O’Reilly. (The fun part then will be seeing how the writer and director figure out how to have all the courageous liberal freedom fighters take back the country from the evil, fascist right-wingers without having the script come across at the very least as justifying the NRA’s argument on the right for everyone to be able to own guns…)

Well if the villain isn’t Communists, then the Red in the title loses it’s meaning.

Maybe they will fight the deficit.
Multibucket on June 19, 2009 at 5:13 PM
Not so. It’s a Hollywood movie, right?
The good guys will be the Cubans who come up through Mexico to take over the country. The bad guys will be Red Staters who are racially insensitive enough to try to defend the U.S.
malclave on June 19, 2009 at 6:46 PM
It will probably be “right-wing extremists” and the U.S. military, led by a general who looks a lot like… Cheney.
The new Wolverines will be:
-an openly gay man
-a militant, lesbian woman
-an “undocumented” Mexican migrant worker
-a “wise Latina” community organizer
-an Iraq war veteran who has an intense hatred for Booosh
-a 9/11 truther on the run
-a Marxist college professor
Even though none of them have ever touched a gun in their lives and could never wage successful guerilla warfare or survive in the Colorado wilderness they will win.
In the end a UN flag will fly over the memorial dedicated to them because we are all citizens of the world don’t you know.
RedSwissKnife on June 19, 2009 at 10:44 PM
To the list of who will be the new Wolverines I forgot to add:
-a Code PINK hag
who will plant the bombs in the movie theater where U.S. soldiers are watching a John Wayne movie, and
-an American Muslim convert
Who in the film’s most intense action scene will “martyr” himself and kill a platoon of U.S. soldiers in the process.
\Yeah I’m being sarcastic. But I’m willing to bet that the new Red Dawn will have crap like this.

Yep, a 5th column
The Title for a new “Red Dawn Movie could be
“Were from the Government and were here to help”

Every tea bag clutching, fair tax proclaiming, bitter clinger will be in a casting call for the villains in this flick. No wonder we haven’t been to the movies in years. How bout a remake of Road to Morocco starring the 5th Marine Div.
Kissmygrits on June 20, 2009 at 10:52 AM
Really, all they need-do is repackage the TV series Jericho in a shorter form and call it Red Dawn. One NeoCon to rule them all …

A remake of “Red Dawn” would not be that hard, since, after all, socialism is still the primary threat to this country, as it has been for the last 100 years. But here’s the catch: who is left to fight against any sort of oppressor? We’re so close to the brink in terms of reaching the 50% mark of the population who want socialism. Consider the youth. The Marxists have overwhelmingly taken control of state-run education, which they call the “illiteracy cartel”, the media, which they call the “sensuality cartel”, and are well on their way to taking control of what Americans call the church. This was their goal, to subvert the authority of Christian fathers, specifically, and families in general. We’re about to lose, and most don’t even know it. Consider the words of the architects:
“By psychopolitics our chief goals are effectively carried forward. To produce a maximum of chaos in the culture of the enemy is our first most important step. Our fruits are grown in chaos, distrust, economic depression and scientific turmoil. … With it you can erase our enemies as insects… Use the courts, use the judges, use the Constitution of the country, use its medical societies and its laws to further our ends. … And bring to Earth, through Communism, the greatest peace Man has ever known.” ~ Lavrenti Beria, Lenin University, in a 1933 address to a group of American/Marxist Psychology Students
“The family in crisis produces the attitudes which predispose men for blind submission.” ~ Max Horkheimer, former President of the Frankfurt School (Marxist think-tank)
“Literacy is the greatest obstacle to socialism.” ~ John Dewey (“Father of Progessive Education”; taught by G. Stanley Hall, who drew greatly from Ernst Haekal’s erroneous ideas dealing with embryo development)
“To prepare society for psychological control, the very soul of the individual must be destroyed in its youth by disturbing it with evil via forced schooling and media.” ~ György Lukács (learned from Dewey)
“I saw the revolutionary destruction of society as the one and only solution to the cultural difficulties [Christianity].” ~ György Lukács
“A quiet revolution can be dispersed throughout a culture over a period of time to destroy it from within. Mass psychology and media can break the traditions, beliefs and morals and the will of a nation so there is no possibility of resistance.” ~ Antonio Gramsci
“Socialism is precisely the religion that must overwhelm Christianity. … In the new order, Socialism will triumph by first capturing the culture via infiltration of schools, universities, churches and the media by transforming the consciousness of society.” ~ Antonio Gramsci
“The civilized world has been thoroughly saturated with Christianity for 2,000 years and a culture based on this religion could only be captured from within. By winning cultural hegemony, men could be made to love their servitude.” ~Antonio Gramsci
“Until man is convinced that the world has been abandoned by God, there will be no revolution.” ~ György Lukács
“Of all the arts, the motion picture is the most important.” ~Vladimir Lenin
“This weapon [cinema], which cries out to be used, is the best instrument for political propaganda, which cuts into the memory and may be made a possible source of revenue.” ~ Leon Trotsky
“We are obliged… to make amusement a weapon of collective education. The cinema competes with the church. This rivalry may become fatal for the church. The cinema liberates you from the need of crossing the church door. Here is an instrument we must secure at all costs.” ~ Severneya Pravda
Sun Tzu had it right: “To subdue the enemy without fighting is the supreme excellence.”

I would have to say that the bad guys in this remake would have to be the Federal Government and the Obunghole Admin.
WOLVERINES!
