We need to keep in mind that Islam originated in the 7th century A.D. We also need to keep in mind that we must not confuse those early Arabs with Muslims - to make such a confusion is to be involved in historical revisionism. Therefore we must address not the influence of Muslims but of Arabs on culture and society. The Moors for example had really great geometric patterns. Not sure what else they contributed to society other than mayhem and horror.

On the other hand, the Greeks contributed a lot to our civilization, as did the Romans. Athens was a great learning centre at around 400 BC in the age of Pericles, and of course it was Pythageros that gave us algebra such as the theorem of Pythageros. Arabs did not influence Aristotle, Pericles, Pythageros or any of the other great Greeks from that era. In fact it would be the other way around, that Greece influenced those Arab nations through the invasion of Philip of Macedon and Alexander the Great.

Yet, in the ancient world, one can see the rise of the region now known as Iraq - Baghdad and Babylon - and we know of the famed "Hanging gardens of Babylon" but this was not a Muslim undertaking. We also know that Persia had some influence in the region - king Cyrus was from Persia but Cyrus was benign towards the Jews, which is not what is happening now.

The ancient Greeks also gave us the start of modern medicine, which is why doctors take the oath of Hippocrates.

It seems to me that a lot of our western civilization has its roots in Greece, rather than in the Middle East. The Romans also made great advances with their aqueducts and road building, as well as their baths etc. etc. They also had their great philosophers in the ancient world. Rome and Greece were the cradles of the first democracies (though these were not perfect).

Civilization was spread through Europe by the Romans, and not by Arabs or Muslims.

This is the problem with revisionist history, for when people start distorting the truth we start to get such outrageous claims as those that were made in Cairo.

How can countries that keep the people in bondage through their religion contribute to advances in anything. They are still riding donkeys instead of driving cars and plowing fields by hand.

The Muslims contributed nothing.

Frank Tipler goes too far, as Obama did. Europeans learned of many advances from the Muslims, who were in contact with the East, and were more open than the West to new ideas and science way back in the day.

We call these things "facts".

The sheer volume of evidence supporting "facts", from the fact that steel melts, to the fact that vaccination policies work, to the fact that Irish monks preserved much knowledge during the dark ages... these things are simply, non-negotiable truth.

That we have a President, or more likely his speechwriters, are so arrogant, so convinced of his (or their) own infallibility that nobody checks is depressing enough, but the Main Sewer Medias' unwillingness to even ask a question about it...

This does not end well.
