Driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants? Madison says you bet!

Even New York was smarter than our local politicians.

Illegal immigrants in Wisconsin not eligible for driver’s licenses instead could get driver’s cards that would give them limited rights under action taken by a Democratic-controlled committee.

The cards could be used only to drive. Other rights given to driver’s license holders, like using it to board an airplane, would not apply to those with just driver’s cards.

To get a card, an immigrant would have to prove they have lived in the state for at least six months, provide proof of identity and not be eligible for a Social Security number.

Gov. Jim Doyle did not propose the cards in his original budget. It was added by the Democratic-controlled budget committee and approved on a partisan vote late Thursday night.

Emphases mine. Check out the third paragraph. Notice a particular descriptive adjective missing? Amazing how that word seems to vanish in certain contexts, like when amnesty shills call border enforcement supporters “anti-immigrant”.

So let’s get this straight: an illegal alien reports to a state agency that they have been breaking the law for six months, and that agency responds by…reporting them to ICE? Silly billy, why would they do that? Nope, instead they issue them a half-baked ID card, which will probably make it easier for them to get employment with unreported income.

My childhood home, Delavan, Wisconsin, was helped to flourish in the early part of the 20th century by Mexican immigrants(legal ones). At the time, mint oil was worth its weight in gold, and they created a successful mint-growing enterprise, becoming very rich in the process. I grew up with a very sizable Mexican immigrant population around me, and their families were made up of hard workers and successful businessmen. I haven’t been back there in years, but I’d be very curious what they think of these border jumping criminals being spoon-fed by the state they pay taxes to.
