The banana story here reminded me of this one in London a couple of years ago, which I should have also linked. The UK went - is going- so far overboard with weapons bans; first guns, then knives, then nightsticks, chinese throwing stars, then things that look like guns... that's it's only a little far fetched to suggest bananas might be next. I was just looking for a good illustration of the fact that criminals commit crimes one way or the other and any banana robbery is a good excuse to post the Python clip.

I agree with your basic points about the futility and wrongheadedness of gun control; but I’m not sure what this story has to do about Britian, other than the article appearing on the BBC. The incident took place in North Carolina; I would think hardly a place for extreme gun (or apparently banana) control.

And a total handgun ban (and severe restrictions on long arms IIRC) isn't ending gun violence in Australia either. (Even though it's an island and doesn't border on the U.S.) NB scroll up for Tim Blair's post.
