Up next…The Federal Takeover of California

[ ACORN Watch ]

It widely known that California has moths in it’s pockets. The state is virtually bankrupt, even after receiving almost $7 billion in stimulus money from the American taxpayer. Last year, everyone knew the state was in trouble, but it took until February for Governor Schwarzenegger and the State Legislators to agree on a new budget which closed a $42 billion spending gap.

Part of the new budget involved $13 billion in new or higher taxes, and $15 billion in total spending cuts, including $8.6 billion in cuts to public education. $1.4 billion was also cut from state payroll costs. Part of that budget was to go into effect immediately, while other sections had to wait until July 1st. Just as an aside, last time I checked, $13 billion plus $15 billion did not equal $42 billion – I’m just saying.

With the state’s coffers in such need of filling, the $7 billion in stimulus spending dangled by Il Duce was happily received – strings, hooks, and all. The money replaced a proposed $0.12 per gallon tax hike, which I’m sure most Californian’s were happy to see left out of the budget. But then the other shoe dropped.

In a show of what can only be described as Brass Balls, yesterday President Obama jerked on the stimulus money, setting the hook, which will now allow him to control the state’s budget. Specifically, $74 million dollar budget cuts to the pay of unionized home healthcare workers. As reported in the L.A. Times,

Schwarzenegger’s office was advised this week by federal health officials that the wage reduction, which will save California $74 million, violates provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Failure to revoke the scheduled wage cut before it takes effect July 1 could cost California $6.8 billion in stimulus money, according to state officials.

In other words, Obama is doing the same thing to California that he is doing to the auto and banking industries. Do what we want, because we gave you money. You took money, therefore we own you. The citizens of California are unimportant. The projects that would be paid for with the $7 billion, also not important. The taxpayers, many yet to be born, that are paying for the stimulus cash, definitely not important. The home health care union workers, who I’m sure would rather take a pay cut than lose their jobs, they’re important.

However, they are important only to a certain extent. The workers belong to SEIU, which is a branch of ACORN. As reported in the L.A. Times, but probably never in the MSM,

The workers, who collectively contribute millions of dollars in dues each month to the influential Service Employees International Union and the United Domestic Workers…

This is an ACORN payoff, plain and simple. ACORN is in large part responsible for the election of Barack Obama, and he owes them big. The state might very well be out of cash by June, so for Obama to put a political ally ahead of they needs of millions of citizens (which, ironically, voted for him in large numbers) is narrow minded, supercilious, and narcissistic.

Sorry California, you just got punk’d by a nut.

Who’s next? Rhode Island? No, too small. Michigan? Possibly. And what about we little folks who got our small share? Sheesh! Where do I send back the check? What do you think he’ll give the teacher’s union? Control of the schools and we taxpayers can just go to h–l?

Hey, these assholes voted for The One. Now they have him. Now they can fucking live with him. Welcome to Hope and Change.

GarandFan on May 9, 2009 at 12:06 PM

Idi Ogabe Dada is now in charge, woe to those who put up a fuss or resist. If people can’t see the writing on the wall now, they are willfully blind; this ahole and his acolytes will do whatever they want, whenever they want.

Can we impeach him NOW?

No. We have to wait until the Californians really, really, really, understand how bad a decision they made voting for a fascist. Then when California starts rattling the saber about leaving the Union we tell them not to let the door hit them on the backside on their way out.

Browncoatone on May 9, 2009 at 12:14 PM

As John and Ken on KFI-LA and the San Diego Union have reported, those education “cuts” aren’t even “cuts”. They are simply rollbacks of education INCREASES that were scheduled for this year. Nothing has been “cut”.

Our state government is a disaster. And nobody has the balls to say “enough is enough”.

Nigel on May 9, 2009 at 12:15 PM

Seems to me Da Gov need to grow a pair and challenge “HIM”.
To him we are going to use it our way and you can shove your ex post facto rule or we’ll run this all the way to SCOTUS.

Maybe the threat of letting daylight in, will back the bully off.

oldernwiser on May 9, 2009 at 12:19 PM

“As goes mexifornicate so goes?”
Well tell o to shove it, pass a real budget and/or let the riots begin.

Frankly if mexifornia looked like Atlanta after the War of northern aggression most of us could not give a Damn.

Sorry Rhett.

Col.John Wm. Reed on May 9, 2009 at 12:20 PM

That’s right, Nigel, they are only a reduction in the proposed increases in pay for teachers. (So they can be forced to pay more dues into their PACs, who then give the money to Dems.)

I’m voting against all the propositions. Let the lights go out! I may lose my job but this is too important.

BTW in MSM talk “advised” means “threatened.”

PattyJ on May 9, 2009 at 12:35 PM

seiu, played a key role as well.

rob verdi on May 9, 2009 at 12:43 PM

The sad thing is, Obama’s strongarm tactics doesn’t even help the avereage SEIU worker. They’ll end up being laid off because CA can’t afford to keep them. The fact that Obama is willing to withold $7 billion from a state that delivered a lot of electoral votes for him, over a $2/hour pay cut, says a lot.

Let’s hope that people in California, who have shown in the past an amazing ability to reject liberal policies when pushed, take notice of this. But looking at LaTimes.com today, I guess the potential loss of $7 billion doesn’t merit front page coverage. It wasn’t even their top story yesterday, when it came out.

Well, LA already pays teachers not to work, as do many other states with entrenched teacher’s unions.

Rick007 on May 9, 2009 at 1:07 PM

This is much worse than it even sounds there. The ‘home health care worker’ is people being paid for taking care of family members at home. They aren’t certified health care workers. The crazy bastards who run this state found a way to pay ordinary citizen to take care of their sick family. Then it gets WORSE. They UNIONIZED these people after it passed. It’s become the fastest growing state social spending project in the state. It’s rife with fraud. And there’s no, I repeat NO oversight. Two state workers to check out 440,000 enrolled ‘employees’.

Now I’m not sure this has anything at all to do with ACORN. It’s connection is with two specific locals that I’m aware of. Unless they are the ones affected by this I doubt it is a payback to ACORN at all. It may just be a completely cynical payback to unions in general.

What happens, when you make deals with the devil. *sigh*

I hope ACORN, and these unions are happy with themselves. What they gain for a few, will destroy the many!

Once upon a time Californians might have revolted but we have a much different demographic now. The people who have come to this state recently aren’t producers they are people who were attrcated to the “benefits” they will never vote out Liberal Democrats in my opinion.

If the measures fail on May 19 I will be shocked. I know the polls say that they are failing but don’t underestimate the GOTV power the unions have and hundreds of thousands of union members will be on on May 19 voting yes on the measures. 10 years and I’m out of here… God I hope I can last…

Other than Reagan, California has done more to bring this nation down than any state. Why the rest of the country took anything coming from the left in CA seriously is mind-boggling. Henry Waxman is a perfect poster boy. Or Nancy Pelosi. God save the rest of the nation from these immoral socialists.

When I lived in San Diego (over a decade ago) … Mexicans used to say that they’d eventually get California for Mexico. And I used to say – “Well you’ll have to fight us for it”.

Now – hell – I could care less. Let Mexico have California.

Hey now, in addition to saving your butts with Reagan, we saved your butts with California aerospace during WW2, and did it again all through the Cold War. Plus we mostly paid for the whole shebang ahead of time from Sutter’s Mill forward.

California has completely gone down the tubes, but back off. We’ll get this thing fixed. In the meantime, enjoy your salad.

Plus I’m really, really sorry about Barbara Boxer if that helps.

Seems like the GOV has turned into one of them “Girly Girls” he talked about. Willing to do the bidding of the Big O. All states should have a conference and jointly start pushing back on these Federal take-overs. Just saying Enough is Enough, isn’t ENOUGH.

Up next…The Federal Takeover of California

It seems the word federal should be in quotation marks, like this:

Up next…The “Federal” Takeover of California

I’ve been putting quotation marks around the word federal for years now. It’s accurate, it’s easy to do, and it’s not disloyal to your federal government, because you don’t have one anymore.

Owned and Operated by Barackus Caesar and his Senate.

Five or so years more, and I’m retired. Then it’s off and away from here to any state East of Utah and North of Texas.

I’d much much rather be under the rule of Canada than the rule of China, or the EU, Mexico, or Russia.

infidel4life on May 9, 2009 at 3:40 PM

Unfortunately, CA has had it’s opportunity for an “intervention” and they figured they could cure themselves. Now they have run out of options. More citizens of the state were in denial and delusional than those who hoped to become more fiscally responsible. Like an addict in denial, the politicians and voters who chose equality over liberty will have to lose it all because they didn’t want to make the tough choices.

1) The tax increases will not increase revenues. Actual revenues streams are already behind their projections for both sales taxes and income taxes. This will accelerate as people spend less, leave the state and find other ways to simply avoid the taxes completely.
2) There are no cuts. What they’re calling cuts are only reductions in increases. No budgets are less than the previous year.
3) They won’t be able to borrow as much as they project. Creditors are demanding much higher rates than they projected and they aren’t even able to sell all they bonds they need to sell.

California is bankrupt. Hope you don’t hold any of its bonds. Send help.

Yes, well, California had it’s opportunity to set the Feds in their place a few years back when it passed that law mandating lower car emissions. If Cali didn’t have the umpf to take on DC when the EVIL BUSH was in charge what makes you think they’ll stand up to “The One”?
While Vermont was only interested in succession when Bush was in office, California is too comfortable ruining the Union to leave.

Probably would have left a long time ago – or at least have given it a try – if not for family here. Still, I believe in the un-tapped potential for regeneration and renewal. Maybe it starts with the statewide NO in 10 days, maybe it’ll take a little longer.
