That Sound? Ed Begley Jr’s Head Exploding.

This is the most beautiful thing I’ve seen all day. For sooooo many reasons.

At the Society of Automotive Engineers‘ recent world congress in Detroit, hybrid engine developer Raser Technologies unveiled a whopper — a plug-in, extended-range Hummer powered by Raser’s E-REV power train engine. Yes, you read that right – an electric Hummer H3 that has 268 hp, a 40 mile all-electric range, and a fuel efficiency of over 100 mpg.

That’s right. A Hummer that gets better mileage than a Prius.

It’s only in the demo phase right now, but when it’s done I’m going to need about four. Any suggestions for the bumper sticker(s)?

Maybe they can buy out the Hummer division of GM…

GM is going down the drain, and a lot faster than they thought …wished this sort of Electric Hummer would have shown up a couple years ago.

What’d be nice is if they’d develop some sort of “power-pack” swap for regular cars. Like we had back in my old army days with our 113’s and other tracks. Pull out the old engine, replace it with an upgraded engine. A few bolts, re-attach a bunch of wires, that sort of thing.

It’d be great to be able to keep a car with a body style one liked and just replace the engine (and related systems)…instead of being forced to junk an otherwise perfectly good car and be required buy yet another Japanese manga-style electric box on wheels and have to drop +$50k on it at the same time that has the accident crush strength of a kleenex tissue.

Save the planet is one thing….I’d like to save my family, and not have them slaughtered on the highway so the Greens can feel happy that I’m getting 250 miles per gallon.
