THE SILVER SCREW

Once upon a time, a young lad was born without a belly button. In its place was a silver screw. All the doctors told his mother that there was nothing they could do. Like it or not, he was stuck with it . . . He was screwed.

All the years of growing up were real tough on him, as all who saw the screw made fun of him. He avoided leaving his house . . . and thus, never made any friends.

One day, a mysterious stranger saw his belly and told him of a swami in Tibet who could get rid of the screw for him. He was thrilled.
The next day, he took all of his life's savings and bought a ticket to Nepal.

After several days of climbing up steep cliffs, he came upon a giant monastery. The swami knew exactly why he had come. The screwy guy was told to sleep in the highest tower of the monastery and the following day when he awoke, the screw would have been removed. The man immediately went to the room and fell asleep.

During the night while he slept, a purple fog floated in an open window. In the mist floated a solid silver screwdriver... In just moments, the screwdriver removed the screw and disappeared out the window.

The next morning when the man awoke, he saw the silver screw laying on the pillow next to him. Reaching down, he felt his navel, and there was no screw there! Jubilant, he leaped out of bed . . .. .
and his butt fell off.

The moral to this is: 'Don't screw around with things you don't understand -- You could lose your ass.'

Congress is noted for screwing around with things they don't understand - like health care & the economy. That's why we are all losing our asses!

Coldwarrior Have only to stand in line for a couple hours trying to get your drivers license renewed to see how efficient government is when it comes to the simple things. How does government do when it comes to more complex things?

Or ya could ask.....you have a bunch o Canadians that post here, including myself. We get to live the "ideal" already. :P

One correction for the article, and for all discussing it, there isn't really a Canadian medical system. This seems to get confused on boards discussing it fairly often.
It's the provinces decision on exact delivery, payments, what gets covered, etc, all payed for out the privincial budgets.
We really have 12 different socialized systems that vary quite dramatically with a loose set of federal guidelines overriding all.

Went to a townhall meeting with Pete Sessions over the Easter Break, and he predicted the Democrats would enact a single payer system by June. He wasn't specific if that was only the House, or if that included the Senate. If Reconciliation is used then the Senate can pass whatever comes out of the House. Goodbye world's finest healthcare system, hello healthcare system run like the VA and higher taxes as far as the eye can see.

Why does everyone think this will create a Dem majority until the end of time? It will be a nightmare and everyone will hate it. Our prog friends should be careful what they wish for.

Tort reform is what is needed. The question is, why would it take the enactment of a Nationalized Health Care system to bring forth said reform?

They unleashed the slip-and-fall lawyers on the medical system, causing untold higher costs for medical practitioners.

I've been saying for years that the key to reigning in health care costs is tort reform, but the government is ignoring the blindingly obvious.

My sister's mother-in-law is from Ireland. She has some absoute horror stories about their health care system (people missing limbs because they had to wait for surgery, people dying because they couldn't get the care they needed, etc).

An exerpt of a peice I'm working on, wake up America and LOGICALLY think through the ramifications of a Gov't mandated health care system!

When I try to explain the dangers posed by unrestrained federal growth to my liberal friends, they merely groan and roll their eyes. It would seem that only within the arena of ideology do they decide to abandon common sense. In any other instance they would surely be able to grasp the blatantly obvious, that indeed size does matter.

Would you allow your 5 year old to play with neighbor’s pet gerbil? How about their pet hippo? Really, why is that? Because quite simply, in the 1st instance you might worry about your 5 year old rolling around and crushing the gerbil, in the 2nd you’d be terrified of precisely the opposite.

The same is true if readying for an outing on the lake your friends are pulling up next to your sailboat in their inflatable dingy, as opposed to them pulling alongside in the Exxon Valdez.

Even though I would bet no one has seen the actual consequences, we intuitively understand the phrase, “like a bull in a china shop”. No matter how tame or benevolent the particular bull might be, no matter what congressional committee we might have providing oversight, we naturally understand that it is quite likely that disaster is imminent. One could elaborate further, but simple reason should make it abundantly clear, that the more mass anything has, the greater the inherent danger it poses. Period!

The same is true of government. And its mass is dictated proportionately by the revenues it is allowed to collect and the sphere of authority over our lives that we grant it. And as has been amply demonstrated with the bailouts, our government seeks to expand its sphere of authority by promiscuously doling out promissory notes and guarantees, which represent nothing other than future taxation.

The Americans who assembled on April 15th were also cognizant of this simple fact, that when you give up responsibility, you give up control. Just as your parents were responsible for you from birth till age 18, in accepting that responsibility they retained control or, custody over you and were entitled to make all the important decisions pertaining to you and your welfare. Once you emancipated and took responsibility for yourself, you were then free to make your own choices, to do so according to your prerogatives, not theirs, and manage your life as you see fit.

The situation is the same if we as adults elect to entrust our responsibilities for our own well being unto our government. We will in effect turn ourselves over to their custody, conversely the government will then be obligated to provide for you, however they see fit. Because once you give up the responsibility, it is they who are entitled to make the important decisions.

When they provide for your housing, they will tell you where you will live. When they provide for your healthcare, they will tell you what treatment is appropriate. And with the implementation of preventative care in our new government mandated healthcare system, you can rest assured that they will find a mechanism to enforce what you may or may not ingest. After-all, if the government is responsible for your health, they will be legally obligated to ensure your compliance with your treatment program. Just as the parent is held liable for their child’s compliance. Just as they are telling GM what cars they are allowed to build and who they can hire and fire!

When they take custody of your right to self-defense (2nd Amendment) of family and property they will tell that that is their responsibility and prosecute you for doing so yourself Just as they attempted to prosecute Joe Horn last year.

Do you not remember the old parental admonition? “I put clothes on your back, food in your stomach and a roof over your head! You will do as I tell you!” How could they get away with acting like such tyrants? Because they were legally responsible for you, and by being so, they were legally entitled to!

If you mistakenly think that you can get something for nothing, take governmental largesse without giving up the freedom to make choices for yourself, then you are not bloody paying attention. Just ask Detroit and Wall Street.
MJMotley.

MJMotley.

Glorious Nationalized Health Care...

This week The StarPhoenix reported that when Saskatoon contractor Ken Olson informed City Hospital ER staff that a man in a hospital gown had collapsed just outside the door, rather than take steps to help the unfortunate soul or even see what was wrong, their first response was to phone 911.

That, according to Patti Simonar, director of emergency and critical care services for the health region, is standard procedure. Emergency Room personnel at City Hospital apparently aren't equipped to deal with an emergency.

Great job, Director!

Here's a question to pose to the One.

Will the Nationalized Health Care system invoke its rights to Sovereign Immunity and Damage Caps for Medical Malpractice?

Please research and report on this. After all, if there were damage caps already in place, our privatized system could remain intact with no fear of rationing.

Any politician calling themselves conservative needs to copy the above info and hold "town hall" meetings, run TV ads, send e-mails, twitter, blog, and shout this info from the roof tops. Too many Americans are complacent in their attitudes and think the government can solve all of societies problems. It can't and won't. Just look at the history. If socialized health care and CRAP & TAX pass then it is time to round up the wagons and go make a stand somewhere.

After the government takes over health care women will be able to get abortions at post offices. They'll just run the current postal workers through an extra summer course and then certify them. It's going to be pretty ugly going to the post office. They'll probably be giving out free needles to junkies, too.

Eutopia.

The purpose is to create power and wealth for a small ruling class. All for a few and none for the rest.

Apply socialized health care to the ‘rest of the story’.

allrsn on April 26, 2009 at 7:51 PM

No, the purpose is to turn a million health care workers into unionized government employees, with another $100 million in union dues going to Democratic campaign coffers.

Republicans will never win another election in this country.

To add to your list of analogies, directorblue...
"The only medical service in the country completely run by the Federal Government is the VA, and we constantly hear (in the liberal MSM even) about how poor the care is that it offers."

And, just great. So where is Canadian Medicare going to send patients for treatments that are either too backed up here or are unavailable?

Ours did not become the most advanced and most consistantly excellent health system in the world because of government.

Government run health care? Have only to stand in line for a couple hours trying to get your drivers license renewed to see how efficient government is when it comes to the simple things. How does government do when it comes to more complex things?

Universal health care, in order to be efficient, needs to set parameters. Too sick, too old, too young, not critical enough, too critical...might find yourself moved to hospice care and prematurely. How long will our standard of health care last when everything is "free?" At what point will proactive rationing have to be forced on all of us? And how many hair-brained medical schemes will be cooked up by the same government folks who marvel at the infinite wisdom of man-made climate change being worthy of billions in taxpayer monies?

Witness the dog and pony show in Washington, today. Alarm bells and sirens going off all over government...for swine flu. Yes, the CDC and Public health Services should be in constant contact with hospitals and physicians to establish outbreaks and determine vectors...but to this extent?

More people die in the United States annually from regular ordinary old flu than have died from swine flu. But, all the excitement was caused because the press got wind of it and ran with their stories...

Officialdom in DC had to show the Nation they were on top of it. A lot of pressers today, but nothing of real substance. Stay home if you feel ill, go to the hospital if you feel really ill, wash your hands, use kleenex...don't go to Mexico City...but let's let people from Mexico City come here without so much as a thermometer shoved in their mouths...and you can't get swine flu from eating a BBQ pork sandwich. I need Cabinet-level officials telling me this?

How stupid do they think we are?

Never mind...they depend on us being stupid.

I ask you to consider something: what kind of persons can Obama and the Democrat leadership be, to think they can do these things when history tells them they can not?

Not a relavant question. The purpose is NOT to provide better health care.
