A More Aggressive Carterism

It’s Carterism on steroids. Carterism with abs. Cooler, too, wears shades sometimes. But is it as needlessly, wretchedly destructive? Who knows. The new Carter for a new era is just getting started.

The true test will be to see which one, Carter or Obama, is more vindictive.

Carter portrayed himself as a cardigan-wearing, moralist populist…but when the chips were down, he went for the painful kill of opponents. And he carried that chip on his shoulder for weeks, months, and for some, still today. In essence, a small angry little man.

Does Obama have this same mean streak?

Neither are the stuff of real leadership. Both believe that a few well-written words spoken here or there suffices for leadership. Both have a naive view of the real world. Carter had his hat handed to him by Breshnev…and also Khomeini…after believing that if we would just talk to each other all our differences would go away. Obama is about to have his hat handed to him by a wide range of foreign leaders. Castro didn’t even wait for Obama to get back home from Latin America before calling Obama out on Obama’s pronouncements about Cuba.

But…Carter on steroids? I would certainly hope not. Steroids do a number on both male brains.
