Meghan McCain’s “Storm of Insanity”
posted at 1:26 pm on April 20, 2009 by Tanya
Oh, Meghan, Meghan, Meghan. I do not understand why this girl is still talking.
[B]etween you and me, many of the people in this business tend to take themselves entirely too seriously. I wanted to break out of that.
I am concerned about the environment. I love to wear black. I think government is best when it stays out of people’s lives and business as much as possible. I love punk rock. I believe in a strong national defense. I have a tattoo. I believe government should always be efficient and accountable. I have lots of gay friends. And yes, I am a Republican.
You know, all of this describes me too. Except she apparently thinks that these things make her so very, very unique. (I thought that too, once. When I was twelve.) I would guess that at least 15% of Republicans under age 50 fit this mold. Take out the (aware of) gay friends part and you’re up to about 25%.
But the rest of us aren’t asking the whole party to conform to our beliefs. We know we’re the outliers. And we also know that running a moderate as our leader doesn’t work — the moderate we ran last time (I believe Meghan may have met him once or twice) couldn’t even beat a man with ties to domestic terrorists and no leadership experience.
Asking the entire Republican party to be like us, that’s like being the only vegetarian invited to a party, and demanding that the entire menu be changed so that no one else can eat meat either.
It’s not just stupid, it’s rude.
Update: One last thing, she actually said “My hair stylist, Josh Rupley who is here tonight and a proud new member of the Log Cabin Republicans.” Come on, really? She couldn’t find anyone except her freaking hairstylist? You ponderous, stereotyping hag. Please stop trying to sound outré. You’re not helping.

I think we’re pretty much reached the point where the only difference between Paris Hilton and Meghan McCain is most conservatives would rather hear what Paris has to say.

LEAVE MEGHAN ALONE!
Allahpundit on April 20, 2009 at 1:38 PM
Why are we still talking about her? I am hoping that HA quit giving her, KP and PN a platform in which to tell everybody how eeeevil the right-wing of the party is.
I’m right-wing and up until recently was a fairly normal guy. Though, I haven’t really changed fundamentally, I am now classified as an extremist by our government.

Sanity! GREAT post.

What does wearing black have to do with the price of eggs in China?
Cheesestick on April 20, 2009 at 2:28 PM
Hey, it also describes those of us over 50, which would be me. Great post!
I think Meghan found out she can shake some trees and make some money by saying things like this – look, a “Republican” who doesn’t agree with other “Republicans”!

Bah. Punk is dead. Long live metal!
TheUnrepentantGeek on April 20, 2009 at 5:55 PM
Meghan darlin’,
You have the same affliction with the MSM as your daddy did. Didn’t you see how they left him high and dry at crunch time?
You need a really long time-out to be quiet and think this through.
Go to your room. Now.
marybel on April 20, 2009 at 6:02 PM
But did she vote for him?
andycanuck on April 20, 2009 at 6:12 PM
Most college-educated leftists do not think that these things can be true of Republicans. Perhaps she is trying to combat negative stereotypes. Another possibility is that she is trying to reinforce negative stereotypes about blondes.
hicsuget on April 20, 2009 at 6:42 PM
I wish she would run for office just so I could vote against her.
LastRick on April 20, 2009 at 6:45 PM
What a great point!!
R D on April 20, 2009 at 6:50 PM
Hmmm, well let’s see, when every blog keeps linking to her every word day after day after day after day after day, instead of ignoring her vapid tripe, that would be your first clue.
Maybe, instead of linking to her day after day after day after day in the HotAir Headlines, in the HotAir main posts and now writing about her in “Green Room”, people would simply, oh I dunno, ignore her, then she would stop talking since no one is listening.
Seriously, this is really simple: she’s an attention whore and you, AllahPundit and all the commenters here at HotAir keep giving her the attention she craves. So it’s pretty obvious why she keeps talking.
Michael in MI on April 20, 2009 at 6:50 PM
Allah, please. Meghan McCain portrays herself as the very image of vacuousness. Reading her posts, one can almost hear the eye-rolling, head-shaking “well, WHATever” of a Valley Girl socialite. If this is the real Meghan, it’s a shame – such a waste. If it’s an act – she might be doing herself a big favor by dropping it. Smart is sexy. Sexy, however, is not always smart.
uncivilized on April 20, 2009 at 6:53 PM
Meghan’s problem is that she does not respect the past.
In her little speech to the Log Cabins, she talked about how the Rethuglicans cling on to “past successes” too much.
That’s because they were successful.
Deerrrrrrr!
blatantblue on April 20, 2009 at 6:55 PM
As a generational peer, I think she does her fellow millennial GOPers a disservice by reflexively portraying vast swaths of the base as rubes, or worse, and for a Republican to try and marginalize the Party’s base isn’t a plan for a Party Renaissance; it’s a plan for Party Destruction. If she wants to change the Party, she needs to make an argument to convince them that her way is better, and not just opt to position herself as somehow above everyone else. I’ve tried to make that pivot accessible in what I write. I wish she’d do the same.
She and I agree far more on the GOP outlying issues than we disagree. But would I make her the emissary for those issues to friendlies or skeptics? At this point, nope.
Repurblican on April 20, 2009 at 6:57 PM
This self-centered child of privilege is even more insufferable than her attention-loving father.
Pox on the whole family.
She truly is the Paris Hilton of the Republican Party, as I believe someone else has observed.
molonlabe28 on April 20, 2009 at 7:08 PM
Ms. McCain is a Republican? I just assumed she was a Democrat like her dad.
/sarc
In case she’s not aware, her dad lost the election because of people like her.

She’s the new Margaret Cho.

While I don’t think this post is indicative of what you are saying, I completely agree.

You know, whenever I read about the latest silliness from Ms. McCain, I am reminded that her father graduated near the bottom of his class at the USNA. Let’s hope that the boys got all the smarts.

Meghan IS the new face of the GOP. Just ask any beltway GOP analyst.

Meghan McCain is just a silly little girl, and rude to boot if you haven’t seen her commentary on Karl Rove’s “twittering”.
Thing is though… we’re free to be stupid and churlish in this country if we want to. That’s what Republicans believe in anyway; freedom. And if she also believes in smaller central government, Constitutional law, minimal regulations on the free market, the 10th amendment, and individualism over collectivism… she’s a Republican. Why kick her out of bed over a few cookie crumbs?
Let the Democrats seek a Utopian society through arbitrary uniformity and political correctness. It’s a fool’s errand. Republicans have better things to do.
Murf76 on April 20, 2009 at 7:24 PM
At least Paris is under no pretension that she’s the new young leader of a party she only recently joined as a Father’s Day present.
Nice post, Tanya.

Although Meghan Mac falters on occasion, she’s really not that bad.
At least, she’s having an impact.
JetBoy on April 20, 2009 at 7:31 PM
I’m okay with that. But for Miss McCain to get my attention anymore she’ll have to take her shirt off.
exception on April 20, 2009 at 7:31 PM
Bravo Tanya! If she listened to somebody as smart and intellectually engaged as you are, maybe she would get some of us to listen to her and respect what she has to say…instead of us dismissing her as a air-headed, privileged, dilettante.
AUINSC on April 20, 2009 at 7:31 PM
I have many tattoos and have listened to oldschool hardcore and punk for most of my life. How does this have anything to do with political thought. This girl is nothing but an annoying little bug that keeps buzzing in my ear. Very irritating…
RightXBrigade on April 20, 2009 at 7:32 PM
When she is no longer useful to the left her short lived relevance will over.
Young conservatives are alot more Greg Gutfeld then George Will. She is eventually going to get it with both barrels. It is going to be a rude, uncivil, ideological and most likely personal slap in the face. For her sake I hope it is not on a national stage.

she’s giving republicans my age a bad name. and soon enough, she’ll be running out of things to bitch about.

Are you under the impression that Meghan is only famous because Hot Air has linked to her? She’s a former presidential candidate’s daughter whose twits are followed by Karl Rove and who was interviewed by Larry King. You can’t think Hot Air and people who post here have anything to do with why she keeps talking.
Esthier on April 20, 2009 at 7:37 PM
BTW, I’m really appreciating the Green Room. Introduces me to lots of good bloggers.
Thanks, HA.
petefrt on April 20, 2009 at 7:38 PM
I agree. Wouldn’t it be nice if Tanya’s post was the last word on Meghan McCain from Hot Air? AP can
stalkfollow Ms. McCain from his Twitter and do what he wants over there, but no more posts about her over here? I can dream.conservative pilgrim on April 20, 2009 at 7:45 PM
Whoa!
I thought AP had gotten over the bimbo but he seems to have started up with her again. Time for a real life intervention?
AP we all love and respect you but if you continue with this we may have to break your legs. xoxoxo HotAir readers.
Blake on April 20, 2009 at 7:47 PM
Yeah, that’s called politics. You have a position, you try to convince people to go along with it. Conservatives have a unique responsibility — liberals can afford to champion any kind of change in the name of progressivism — conservatives have not only have to preserve our best traditions but figure out which traditions really are best. McCain deserves credit for exercising both necessary conservative instincts.
You don’t know that running a less moderate candidate (which is a myth to begin with) wouldn’t have gotten creamed even worse than McCain. Doctrinaire conservatism wasn’t exactly doing gangbusters in the midterm elections before McCain v. Obama. No, we don’t know that running a moderate doesn’t work. Even a neophyte student of political science knows that every successful presidential campaign begins with a lurch to the center in the primary.
McCain may be an outlier compared to mainstream Republicans, but how many mainstream conservatives are even left? The Republican party doesn’t have to become more like Meghan McCain, but it can’t win without finding room for her in the party. A better analogy is that vegetarians aren’t invited to the party in the first place. Now that’s rude.
RightOFLeft on April 20, 2009 at 7:47 PM
The green room sucketh. I avoid it like the plague. Now, HotAir is bringing the Green Room geeks into the normal part of HotAir…that sucks big time.
We already got AP flooding us with that fat pig, do we have to bring in the frickin wannabees to bug us about the meat eater too. Holy Poop!!!!!
The Wall on April 20, 2009 at 7:47 PM
Uh… It isn’t technically possible for a female to be – or even have – a “putz.”
sondiehl on April 20, 2009 at 7:51 PM
I guess since you just posted here, you aren’t so anti-plague as you would have us believe, huh?
AUINSC on April 20, 2009 at 7:55 PM
I just checked and Karl Rove is following 38,650 people. He doesn’t have an exclusive club of people whom he follows; he’s generous that way.
I sympathize with Michael in MI. An occasional link from Meghan McCain when/if it’s newsworthy I would understand, but every single day? And sometimes multiple posts in a day? She didn’t get this many links during the campaign when she had her McCain blogette gig. I guess she wasn’t useful then.
The point being she is treated like a stateswoman or great thinker, which she is neither. She is of the elite class, and we only hear from her because her father is a Senator, former presidential candidate, and her mother is an heiress, none of which are bad. She lives in a world of privilege, thus we are subjected to endure her diatribes.
I don’t click Meghan McCain links. This one is an exception.
