The Constitution Is A Subversive Manifesto Per DHS

The Department of Homeland Security Reporttitled “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment” was first brought to light by Stephen Gordon at The Liberty Papers Blog. The Report was issued a week before the scheduled Tea Parties across the country, and is all over the news today. Reading the report is depressing, not because it reveals any current threat, but because of the shoddy definitions and analysis.

One thing that is not clear from the news reports, to begin with, is that the Report specifically states that there is no current real threat, even from the most extreme White Supremacist groups: “Threats from white supremacist and violent anti-government groups during 2009 have been mostly rhetorical and have not indicated plans to carry out violent acts.” From the news accounts, you would think there was an actual threat, but that is not so.

But the even bigger vice is how a “rightwing extremist” is defined. I don’t disagree that the few remaining White Supremacist groups should be in any definition, but DHS puts a distinctly political spin on the definition (emphasis mine):

Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.

This definition is so broad as to include anyone who seeks to preserve the foundation of our federal-state constitutional distinction, under the 10th Amendment (“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people”), because such a person could be deemed to “reject federal authority in favor of state or local authority.” So Texas Governor Rick Perry, who has come out in support of preserving the constitutional integrity of Texas now should be on the DHS’ extremist and radical watch-list.

Similarly, the reference to “abortion or immigration” is purely political. Why pick those two subjects? If someone is planning violence, that is one thing. But vocalizing one’s view on a subject and seeking to influence the government are protected by the 1st Amendment (“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances”).

Only in a highly politicized bureaucracy could the Constitution be viewed as a subversive manifesto.

I view the Racist Congressional Black Caucus as a threat.
I view Big Government violating the Tenth Amendment as a threat. I view the current Administration’s intrusion into
the Private Sector as a threat.

Put me on the DHS list.

I read the thing and I couldn’t believe it. It basically says that anyone who is not a supporter of a massive, intrusive federal government is a right wing nut…and dangerous, as well.

I guess that’s me.

How big of a stretch is it to think that this Administration could use these “findings” as the basis for political persecution?

It can’t happen here? Right? Right?

This whole document reads as if some Homeland Security intern spent a weekend surfing the web and reading comments on conservative sites. Our legitimate concerns about immigration, gun control, the economy, and an overreaching federal government are described as the opinions of extremists, far outside the mainstream of American opinion.

I am amazed this thing was published. Please read it if you haven’t already.

Only in a highly politicized bureaucracy could the Constitution be viewed as a subversive manifesto.

By that thinking, the left , or those that support it, should think. By viewing the constitution as such, means they want to throw out the document, that lays out, what our country as always stood for, since it’s inception. It’s what, was fought, and died for, in wars. It’s what we live by. So if it is extremist to want to abide by it, then it is the liberal democrats, that are over throwing the government. The subversives. The disruptors, and traitors to our nation. Any elected official that doesn’t abide by, and adhere to the constitution, is there by, a radical, involved in the over throw of our government.

What I find amazing is that this DHS document is coming out almost simultaneously as Gov. Perry’s statement reaffirming Texas sovereignity (http://www.drudgereport.com/flashtx.htm)under the 10th amendment. According to to the DHS memo The Govenor of Texas and the Texas legislature are now right-wing subversives.

Anyone up for moving to Texas? Meet you at the Alamo!

Funny: As furious and dismayed as I am over the new DHS concern over folks who think largely like I do, I am quite amused that neither Ms Malkin nor Legal In. either seem to care nor to be able to articulate that, arguably the biggest offender in this entire episode is GWBush (you know, the guy who could never quite bring himself to say that we are at war with ISLAMIC TERRORISTS), who created this completely unnecessary and unproductive behemoth (DHS) in the first place.

I first heard about the DHS hit piece on the way to work and thought, nah…. Rush is just pulling one paragraph from a standard 100 page memo to flame people.
I got to work and stayed busy until lunch time, grabbed my sandwhich and came to HotAir. When I read the entire 10 page report I dropped my sandwhich (and I’m fat!)!

I am a veteran, a conservative, a gun owner and not happy with the economy. They painted a picture of me right down to the mole on my cheek, and to be honest, I am very upset about it.

I just hope that things like this report will open the eyes of the people who keep saying “Give Obama more time! He’s only been in office for three months.” If this kind of political hit piece keeps popping up, he will have been in office three months too long.
