Georgia on our minds: The Amiable Skeptics featuring Adam Baldwin!

Where’s the beef? My pal Adam Baldwin and I beef a little about the RICO indictment handed down in Georgia this week from Fani Willis, but it’s safe to call us both skeptics of the affair. We start the conversation with Mark Meadows’ removal application to federal court, and then tear apart the racketeering claims that attempt to criminalize free speech to a large extent. “I don’t think a Tweet is exactly what the RICO statute had in mind,” I say. And what kind of ‘threat’ would Meadows or Donald Trump have been using to ‘importune’ Brad Raffensperger anyway, Adam wonders?

Welcome back to our VIP video series “The Amiable Skeptics,” featuring my friend Adam Baldwin! Adam is well-known for his long and storied Hollywood career, starting with My Bodyguard, and especially for his roles in Full Metal Jacket, Firefly, its film sequel SerenityChuck, and The Last Ship.

Some of the acts in the indictment are crimes, I point out, but committed by others, not Trump. “You still have the fake electors who tried to file fake certificates. You still have the hack in Coffee County,” I point out. “But they don’t involve Donald Trump, right? Not directly, not personally,” I add. “In order to put all of these things onto Donald Trump, they had to do a RICO [case].”

“All of this is lawfare they’re deploying,” Adam says. “It’s a Marxist tactic of strategic provocation … These indictments are agitating folks like you and me, or attempting to agitate folks like you and me into an over reaction. And then they can point at us and say,” Adam adds, “See, they are crazy, they are violent, they are this, that, the other thing. So it’s important to really keep steady with the course.”

It’s a lengthy and complex conversation and a fun debate, so be sure to watch it all — and join us in the comments!
