Two sources familiar with the situation told CQ Roll Call the Senate is likely to hold a procedural vote on a stand-alone bill introduced by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., that would block federal funding for the Planned Parenthood organization. The chamber is currently working to burn time needed to overcome procedural hurdles on highway legislation.

The most likely vote would be on limiting debate on a motion to proceed.

“Since the inhumane acts of Planned Parenthood have surfaced, I have vowed to defeat and defund this taxpayer-funded organization. I am more appalled than ever by Planned Parenthood’s complete disregard for the sanctity of human life,” Paul said in a statement announcing the Senate was using what has become a rather routine process to get the bill on the Senate’s legislative calendar without going through committee.

Planned Parenthood’s leader vehemently denied any violation of laws involving fetal tissue, calling undercover videos recorded by a California-based group a “smear campaign” by “militant antiabortion activists.”

In the videos, recorded by the Center for Medical Progress, Planned Parenthood officials are seen discussing the alleged sale of tissue from aborted fetuses.

“These tapes have been edited and they’ve tried to entrap doctors to say things,” Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.” “I stand behind the healthcare that we provide at Planned Parenthood. Women trust Planned Parenthood.”

Planned Parenthood once boasted a list of sponsors that read like a who’s who of the Fortune 100, but now some of the biggest companies say they never gave money to the embattled organization.

Coca-Cola, Ford and Xerox are all among the companies listed in a roster of corporate sponsors claimed by Planned Parenthood, but representatives for the companies said they either never donated to the organization or had not in years. Planned Parenthood, which is now reeling from the release of two undercover videos in which top officials alluded to selling fetus parts, had published the company names on the website of its Washington, DC, chapter. The list was part of an appeal to employees who the site said could double their donations with the help of their employers. …

“We have never been a donor to Planned Parenthood,” a spokeswoman for Ford Motor Company told FoxNews.com. “And we haven’t matched employee contributions since 2005.”

Planned Parenthood notified the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the attempted breach Monday. A spokeswoman for the organization did not comment on whether hackers obtained any data.

“Extremists who oppose Planned Parenthood’s mission and services have launched an attack on our information systems, and have called on the world’s most sophisticated hackers to assist them in breaching our systems and threatening the privacy and safety of our staff members,” said Dawn Laguens, Planned Parenthood’s executive vice president.

“We are working with top leaders in this field to manage these attacks. We treat matters of safety and security with the utmost importance, and are taking every measure possible to mitigate these criminal efforts to undermine our mission and services.”

The simple fact is that after Planned Parenthood performs an abortion, it can either pay a medical waste company to dispose of the baby’s remains or it can receive $30 to $100 or more “per specimen” to have the baby’s body parts taken by a biotech company. The latter practice certainly leaves Planned Parenthood better off financially. As a top Planned Parenthood official said in the first undercover video, they “want to break even. And if they can do a little better than break even, and do so in a way that seems reasonable, they’re happy to do that.”

We, however, have another choice. We can choose to not let that monster prevail. There are actions that can be taken immediately to reclaim the decency we are all worthy of, and that includes making sure we end our complicity in this atrocity by cutting off the $500 million dollar a year taxpayer subsidy of Planned Parenthood. They report a $1 billion profit every year. Let them suffer with a paltry $500M profit by making them pay for the non-abortion services they contend they provide.

The left is always complaining about massive corporate profits, and ending “corporate welfare.” Let’s start with Planned Parenthood. Ending taxpayer support can be our first step in taking our nation back by refusing to enable and finance the cruel inhumanity of the left.

I did this in the march up to the Iraq War. I don’t recall precisely, but chances are I was slow because of this to recognize the moral horror of the torture regime the US imposed on its captives. A whole lot of people were very, very slow to recognize the moral horror of the clerical sex abuse scandal because of some version of this dynamic. There are many on the left who will not recognize inconvenient truths about their own sacred cows; the cows are different on the right, but no less sacred. The list is endless.

The issue in this case, though, is the dismemberment of human beings, and the profits made by flesh brokers. The issue here is the rationalizations these killers and their apologists are deploying to mask the horror of their deeds. This is what our country permits. We abstract our consciences into numbness.

Finally, there is the president’s apparent willingness to put Planned Parenthood’s funding—slightly less than half of its $1.3 billion in annual revenue comes from taxpayers—above all else. Back in 2011, President Obama informed Republicans he would rather see the entire federal government shut down than cut a nickel from Planned Parenthood.

Which brings us back to today. When asked last week at the daily press briefing if the president has any concerns about the videos, White House spokesman Josh Earnest referred the reporter to Planned Parenthood, which he described as having “the highest ethical standards.” The only concern Mr. Earnest allowed was over the editing of the videos.

It’s an odd indifference for a president who likes to scold his critics for subordinating science to ideology. At a time when many in the pro-choice camp are saying how repelled they are to see Planned Parenthood reps joke about selling embryonic livers and buying Lamborghinis, the president remains unperturbed.

But, as the NYT noted, it took Clinton several days to respond to the uproar over the video. That may be because, despite her support for Planned Parenthood, she has not identified herself as a pro-choice purist.

In 2008, Clinton agreed with a questioner that Americans on both sides of the abortion issue should work together to try to reduce the number of abortions to zero. Clinton reminded her questioner that she thought abortion should be “safe, legal and rare, and by rare I mean rare.”

She also said abortion “should not be in any way diminished as a moral issue,” and portrayed the choice to have an abortion as a wrenching one for “a young woman, her family, her physician and pastor.” …

But, as with other issues on which she has moved to the left, perhaps she’ll also decide that her old mantra of “safe, legal and rare” is too 2008.
