Jon Stewart: Is there no MSNBC host who can carry the Olberburden?

As Jon Stewart acknowledges, there are a couple who come close to Keith Olbermann’s ridiculous level of rhetoric — Ed Schultz and Chris Matthews. In this five-minute slam on MSNBC and Keith Olbermann, Stewart dismisses both as, well, ridiculous but not quite as ridiculous as the departed centerpiece of the network’s lineup. Stewart shows Matthews repetitively using the odd “balloonhead” slur towards Michele Bachmann, who has not forgiven the Congresswoman from Minnesota for skewering his leg tingles on Election Night last November, and suggests that Matthews needs to both expand his repertoire … and perhaps look in a mirror. And if MSNBC wants to install mirrors, Stewart advises them to include one in Schultz’ dressing room as well:

Stewart pays Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell the backhanded compliment of saying that they fail to compare to Olbermann’s “five pillars,” but the standard to which Stewart holds the line-up didn’t appreciate the comedy bit at all. He tweeted, “OK, @TheDailyShow – I give. What the hell was THAT?” Surprisingly, Olbermann apparently doesn’t recognize criticism done with wit and style — or perhaps, not surprisingly.
