Like a Kafka story in reverse: You’re charged, you can appeal pretty much forever, and if you don’t feel like participating you can just run away.
It’s really more of a symbolic endeavor than anything else.
Update from Michelle: Background on the phony immigration raids and catch-and-release here.
Meanwhile, Expose the Left has audio of Democratic congressional candidate Francine Busby reminding a crowd they don’t need “papers” to vote. Which is quite true and will remain so, despite the best efforts of Mitch McConnell.

Sneak across the border and get Lawyered Up. That seems to be the current strategy.

This is absolutely flaming incredible…AND ABSOLUTELY DANGEROUS!!!!! It is amazing just how many resources are available to illegal aliens to help them stay here.
Even if a judge rules against them staying here, they can run to another agency to help them.
Am I correct in my understanding of this mess?

Beautiful, Michelle! I just sent the video link to every last individual on my e-mail list, especially the liberals.
Next, I will start sending it to Senators and Rep’s. You make a conservative man married to a conservative, naturalized American Filipina PROUD!
Great job and God Bless.

Michelle, you touched the point that worries me a lot: Terrorists are infiltrating into America because of the open borders and the broken immigration system.
I wonder how many Muslim terrorists walked their way from Mexico and Canada and how many are plotting right here in America. I can bet my life on it, their number is in the hundreds if not the thousands.
Those politicians in Washington D.C. don’t care about America. If they truly did, they would’ve solved the illegal immigration problem long time ago without any pressure from the public.
You are one of the few voices who call for a tough stand on illegal immigration, Tancredo is another one, but unfortunately his power is limited and he doesn’t have too much support in Congress. I wish he runs for president though.

You have no idea how bad it really is. I work on the border. I am forced to let illegal aliens, ones that have crossed the Rio Grande River into the United States with no visa, passport, nothing at all. Many of them have no identification documents. We really don’t know who they are. But, they already know what is going to happen before THEY TURN THEMSELVES IN! Yes, that’s right, they actually look for a place to turn themselves in. I work at an International Bridge. People crossing the bridge can see the illegals from Central and South America as the cross the river on rafts within sight of the bridge. You might ask where the Border patrol is. Well, they are already tied up doing the same thing that I am doing, processing illegals in the office. Once the aliens cross the river they look for Border patrol or walk into the Port of Entry from the North Side and turn themselves in. We then arrest them, run their fingerprints through US criminal and terrorist databases and search for a criminal history in the US. Once we find that they have no criminal history in the United States, (yet), we call the Detention Center to see if there is any room for them. Most of the time, let’s say 99.99% of the time, there is no room. We then begin the paperwork. Each illegal alien is served with a Notice to Appear, I-862, and a change of address form. They are told that they will receive a letter in the mail at the address that they give us telling them when to report to court for their Immigration Hearing. How many do you think show up at court? Less than 5%. How many do you think simply disappear and never show up at court or answer a summons? Over 95%. How many do you think ever get Deported? The answer to that is easy, how do you think we got so many illegals in the country to begin with? The estimates are between 12 & 20 million. We let them in! We give them permission to enter! They all cross in from Mexico. My question is, why don’t we send them back to Mexico and force the mexican government to deal with them? Why is the US taxpayer paying us to let illegal aliens into the country? I thought we were supposed to keep them out? You want to know the truth about how things are run on the border, just ask. I have lots of stories that you would never believe.

Michelle, thank you for your knowledge, eloquence, and guts. You are truly doing wonderful work for America and it makes me proud. Keep it up.
I don’t know how I’d cope if I never heard your viewpoint and facts. You energize the silent majority.
’nuff said.

The more I think about this, the angrier I am at Bush.
This problem could be solved easily!
After we sealed the border, all we need to do is to deport 1 million a year. In 10 years the problem is over.
Bush bragged about catching 6 millions in 4 years, right? I think if we can do that, the problem is over in 8 years!
With no jobs, no ID ( after implementing national ID), and a tight enforcement, the problem could be licked.
Bush is BSing us.
easy87us on June 2, 2006 at 11:52 PM
Do not believe the hype that DHS, aka Don’t Help Sh*t, tells you. They will never have the guts to do away with “Catch & Release”. We “Catch’ them everyday and just let them go. Actually, that’s not true. For the past 100 illegal aliens that turned themsleves in, I processed and gave them their walking papers, ONE was sent to put in jail and deported. The only reason that happened is because when I did a fingerprint search, he was deported once before. Here’s a scary one for you - We have had admitted members of MS13 turn themselves in to us. Since they had no criminal record in the US we were told that we had to turn them loose. Do you think one of them might be in your town?
immigration inspectr on June 3, 2006 at 12:04 AM
Brilliant strategy, Karl! Now I understand why Bush wants to legalize them all. It’s so that when their leaders tell them to vote for the local Democratic machine, it won’t be a totally egregious act of voter fraud. Good ol Bush, forcing Democratic voters to do it the legal way!
Alex K on June 3, 2006 at 12:06 AM
Bush’s dad laid the foundation for Clinton to rule for 8 years.
Guess who supported Perot? Dole could win if Perot did not come out.
Bush Junior is ready to lay the foundation for 8 more years of Hillary Clinton or another Democrat.
If we elect another Bush in the primary 2008, we are screwed again.
If we elect our own people ( George Allen, for example), the Texans will try to start a new party or have an independent conservative running to screw us, just like the way they screwed Dole.
I really don’t know how to solve this problem. May be Tancredo and Sensenbrener and George Allen should get together now.
Conservative’s real enemy is BUSH. No one can defeat us except Bush and the Texans.
easy87us on June 3, 2006 at 12:20 AM
Except for 32 Republicans (some of whom just want to get re-elected), the Senate RINOs are the enemy, too. Our only real support is in the House.
The border charade won’t end until there is real political change in DC. Nothing short of re-alignment of the parties will do it.
dman on June 3, 2006 at 8:39 AM
immigration inspectr, you think Fox news might be interested in a video? I think such a video might wake, at least a few, more people up.
CrazyFool on June 3, 2006 at 8:41 AM
Michelle touched on the REAL problem which is not the aliens themselves, but the American facilitators without whom this system would not be so disfunctional. When do the lawyers pay for the damage they are doing? Go for them Michelle. You’re smarter, and you’re right!
wcarr on June 3, 2006 at 9:03 AM
You have to be a weak minded fool to beleive that teh Gov’t is serious about starting to enforce the law. This is the “Bait and Switch” tactic. Promise enforcement/Security and after you agree and sign the papers you get something else..Amnesty. Bush and the Senate have been bought off…and if they get voted out..it’s their own damn fault.
havok on June 3, 2006 at 9:09 AM
Bush should drop the demand for the path to citizenship for the illegals right now! Having granting them a work permit they can still stay and be documented into the system. They can still pay tax and be included into our social security system. Within current immigration law they can still apply for residency. I just don’t see why we cannot enforce the current law! To rewrite current law is the worst we can do to destroy our credibility as a country!
Bush’s insistence on push for amnesty and a path to citizenship has only one motive….to define a platform for the GOP that will guarantee to lose in the 2006 and 2008 elections if we have followed him. 40% of the Senators, whether voluntary or not, are following him.
Our hope is now on the House! DON’T FOLLOW BUSH! Bush gives us a guarantee losing proposition, for the country and for the GOP! This complete break down of judicial, enforcement, and administration functions must end now if we have to turn the tide around.
Until we can rebel out of the shadow of the Bush dynasty, the true conservatives will continue to be patronized.
The House, therefore, must demand enforcement of current law. We must build retention tents across the border with buses to deport immediately after being caught. No illegals are allowed to be free. They must be shipped back to the tents after appearing in court and be deported, if they are caught in the cities. We must set up special immigration court right on the border too to facilitate deportation. Use those mobile homes that were for Katrina if necessary! Bush is so screwed up! We have wasted billions on Katrina that we don’t have enough retention facilities for the illegals????
easy87us on June 3, 2006 at 10:02 AM
I think the public needs to be made aware of what is really happening. A video would be good. Only problem with that is that none of us that work here could be part of it. Now that the government has re-written the “whistle-blower” laws, we could all lose our jobs and/or face jail time. I’ll bet you didn’t know the re-wrote those laws.
Also, we do not need to make new immigration laws. We need to enforce the ones we have. I know people complain that it takes too long to get an immigrant visa. Of course, the same people that complain will not tell you that most of the delay is their own fault. Under current law, before a family unity petition can be approved, the petitioner must meet income guidlines to be able to support the family. Hopefully to keep them off welfare. Most times, however, the petitioners put off providing requested information and/or even submitting the proper applications. A lot of times they don’t even show up for appointments. I know the system has problems, but if you expect results you need to be proactive and actually do what needs to be done. I have seen Immigrant Visa petitions or Adjustments of Status get completed in 3 months and as long as 10 years. Most of the time it is the petitioner’s fault if it is delayed for several years.
We have limits on immigration now. I tell folks that if a US citizen petitions for his brother or sister, you must be prepared to wait at least 7 years. If you petition for your spouse or children it is faster. These are facts of life. I do not feel that just because a person wants to immigrant into the US we should immediately accomodate them, do you?
Please… write your Senators and Representatives. Tell them you want ENFORCEMENT of the current laws. Absolute enforcement. Tell Congress to tell all these organizations with lawsuits against the immigration service that there suit is denied. We want to enforce the law. We want to do our jobs. Help us.
immigration inspectr on June 3, 2006 at 10:31 AM
I would be all for the “catch and release” scenario if the ilegals were also tagged (like I see being done to bears and fish and such on nature shows). We could tag their right cheeks just in front of the ear and even if the illegal managed to get the tag off, there would still be a scar to idetify them (just a sick joke everyone…)
Babs on June 3, 2006 at 10:51 AM
Wow…. they get a change of address form to send the court documents too???
Interesting as they have no address, and if they did the person knowingly giving them that address would be setting themselves up for 5 years in Jail under existing law…
DHS… Department of Hispanic Security?

‘immigration inspectr’ does well to bring up the recent whistleblower ruling by the Supremes. Alito was the swing vote on this one. He may be correct on point of constitutional law (this is probably not a free speech issue), but it sure doesen’t help. Say it ain’t so, Sam!
dman on June 3, 2006 at 12:12 PM
immigration imspectr “Also we do not need to make new immigration laws. We need to enforce the ones we have”. Right on. If we can’t enforce the laws that we have on the books now, how can we enforce the new laws.

Francine Busby didn’t say that people “don’t need ‘papers’ to vote”. She said “You don’t need papers for voting. You don’t need to be a registered voter to help“, as in: help with the campaign. Listen to the recording (available at Michelle’s site) and Busby’s meaning will be obvious, I think.

Hang them all high because i’m tired of these so call lawbreakers(congress/senate/president/judges/lawyers).
TREASON is their middle name..
Why can’t we make a citizens arrest on the illegals?
Is there anyone that knows the constitution real good ?
We the People are in danger and it’s a little to late to just
turn red in the face.
It feels like when we fought at the Alamo doesn’t it.
How can the freaks that are ruining our country sleep at night ? Michelle i’m proud of you for standing and telling them off for us. keep strong..

Today was a good day. I actually took 2 illegal aliens to jail. They will stay there a couple of days until they get a chance to appear in front of a Federal Magistrate for Fraud. These 2 winners decided that they would pretend to be from El Salvador. In case you did not know, illegal aliens from El Salvador get special treatment due to the Orantes decision, a must read and out of date. So they bought El Salvadoran National ID Cards from a vendor in Monterrey, Mexico. Too bad for them they paid a lot of money for poor counterfeits. plus, after working almost 3 years in El Salvador with the US Army, I know a lot about the country. It took about 10 minutes before the admitted that they were Guatemalan. So off to jail and then deportation back to Guatemala.
In other news - todays catch includes the following - Chinese, Romanian, El Salvadoran, Guatemalan, Honduran, Costa Rican and many more.
At least I was able to take 2 to jail.

We will never win. The powers that be want to take this country and unite it with Canada and Mexico, creating the North American Union. The US government has already begun to set up rules and regulations that will govern this new union. This is the reason behind our elected officials turning their backs on the people. It was what Bush met with Fox and Harper to talk about - The Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America. Quote “We agreed to expand our existing cooperation on key issues such as border security, emergency management and energy security”.
There is an agenda…and this is it.
