Viral Video of the Day: Gnarls Barkley (Added: Al Franken gets skewered)

I always figured Han would play the drums, with Chewie manning the bass. But being a drummer, I may be a little biased toward pirates and away from walking carpets.

More (Allah): I was going to post this separately but why not make it a video bonanza? R.J. West did us all a public service by adding this to YouTube. You may have to turn up the volume on your computer, but it’s worth it.

Blowback

The alien music in the original Star Wars was better than that drivel.

Hmmmm…. Stuart Smalley’s alterego didn’t seem to comfortable or amused.

If Franken was sitting there and not on the satallite, he would’ve leapt over the table and violently assaulted that guy. Only his political ambitions have kept him from repeating his attacks on protesters like he did in ‘04 when he bragged about body-slamming a heckler.

As for Gnarls Barkley, they’re extremely overrated, but the song is OK and it’s funny to see it performed this way.

DirkBelig on June 16, 2006 at 7:46 PM

To me it’s all about the visual and theatrics. There’s just something about a Stormtrooper on guitar that just works. But the song has a decent groove to it.

Rob Bartlett (doing the Alberto Gonzalez schtick) is one of the funniest people alive.

His Bubba will kill you if Bernard McGuirk’s Cardinal O’Connor doesn’t get you first.

Don who?

Pablo on June 16, 2006 at 8:25 PM

As Franken finds out yet again, the truth hurts!

sMack on June 16, 2006 at 8:30 PM

I’ve heard worse than Gnarls Barkley - and better.

dman on June 16, 2006 at 8:32 PM

That was funny!

What’s an imus?

Kini on June 16, 2006 at 8:35 PM

That was sad. The best thing these idiots can do is go away quietly. They are an embarrasment to themselves and those they love. Give it up, Al…you are a moron and a buffoon and no one thinks you are funny anymore..just pathetic. Who what the jerk with the accent…???

Sandys Beach on June 16, 2006 at 8:48 PM

I rather enjoyed the stormtroopers rocking out. It’s got a nice beat and the presentation was..unique. Still, it would have been better if he’s killed everyone on the stage after the song was over. Vader: You came in early; you won’t make that mistake again…(choking noises, and thud).

I didn’t even bother with the franken video. I can’t stand that turd. I wish Lee Habeeb would have kicked his a** at the Republican Convention in 04. Think of the headlines; Al Franken beat up at the GOP convention by talkshow producer. That would have been worth a minor jail term at least..:)

Does anyone know if Frankin still works for free? If so then IMHO he is overpaid.

I think that Don guy hosts a show called ‘I mess in the morning’? Maybe his sponsor is Depends…

DannoJyd on June 17, 2006 at 4:23 AM

Rob Bartlett is the only reason to watch Imus in the Morning on MSNBC. His characters and impersonations — Dennis Wilson, Jack Nicholson, et al. — are brilliant and hysterically funny. He is irreverant as it gets and isn’t afraid to skewer the leftists.
As for Gnarles Barkley, the cutaway shots of the Class A babes in the audience were worth the price of admission. Otherwise, it - uh - like has a good beat and - uh - is like easy to dance to, I’ll give it an 8.

Miguel Estrada? Dude sounded more like Triumph. “That is a beautiful book…..FOR ME TO POOP ON!”

Kid from Brooklyn on June 17, 2006 at 6:32 AM

Dang - that was a pretty good song by Gnarls Barkley.

Dang - that skewering looked uncomfortable.

I have finally figured out why Al Franken hates OReilly gut.

Have you seen the two guys meeting each other?

Suddenly, I see how tall OReilly really is! Man, this man is tall. I mean OReilly is taller than the Washington Monument, especially in front of Al Franken.

Shortness could be a reason for being vicious against taller people, you know.It is like a form of reverse discrimiination caused by the feeling of inferiority. On top of it…Air America git its A$$ whipped by every show in town. That is not good for Al’s spiritual growth.

Nah..I don’t believe Al is running for anything. He knows he will lose big time because he is not tall. Tall people wins election.

I know a perfect job for Al, he can team up with Michael Moore to make movie for National Lampoon. I am serious. He could be the best comedian we ever have.

Just stay away from global warming, Al. And you’ll be fine. Al and Al do not sound right. It sounds like some kind of new rapper.

Good luck, Al. And you need it.

Loved the Al Franken video - awesome, but who the hell is Gnarls Barkley??

A Charles Barkley lookalike that sings?? I must be “out of it” because I have no idea who “Gnarls” is…. if anyone can enlighten me, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks much.

HOLY CRAP GNARLS BARKLEY IS INCREDIBLE.

They basically pick up where the Soul and R&B music of the 60’s left off - the Temptations, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Supremes etc..) But they aren’t totally a retro-throwback band. They aren’t copying these classic bands - they are actually building on and helping to evolve and improve upon the sound those bands created. They’ve got some really amazing stuff. There’s one called “Storm Coming” that isn’t like anything I’ve heard in my life - goosebumps all over.

Here’s their official site - there’s two songs on the site itself, “Crazy” and “Smiley Faces”. You can also get on the file sharing programs (if you have them) - there’s a bunch of stuff on there that people are passing around.

Here’s the Wikipedia entry…

Random thoughts:

Gnarls Barkley was nice, pretty nice. Oh, yeah, the girls in the audience looked really cute too.

Al, that run for the Senate will take some hard work. I don’t think the people in Minnesota will elect an entertainer… Oops, I forgot, they elected Jesse “The Body” Ventura, right?

Swiss Cheese by itself goes better with crackers than with bread.

Diet Pepsi beats the crap off Diet Coke.

THat’s it.
My mind is empty now.
Coño!

batperez on June 17, 2006 at 3:53 PM

OMG, the guy talking about Franken is hysterical. Similar comedic rant to other greats, but I was useless for five minutes! 3 1/2-4 Stars.

tormod on June 17, 2006 at 5:26 PM

Ok I’ve been at sea, so I’ve never heard of Gnarls Barkley, but I enjoyed him. It’s nice to hear non-vulgar lyrics one can actually understand. Hopefully there’s a trend here. Thanks for the link.

Dread Pirate Roberts VI on June 19, 2006 at 9:18 AM

FYI for those who didn’t click the link to the Wiki: “Gnarls Barkley is a musical collaboration between producer Danger Mouse and rapper/singer Cee-Lo.”

Just as Deborah Harry wasn’t “Blondie”, Gnarls Barkley is a band, not a person.
