DNC: On second thought, we’ll take that lobbyist and PAC money after all

posted at 10:01 am on February 13, 2016 by Jazz Shaw

During the 2008 presidential campaign, Barack Obama led the way in having the DNC change their rules to remove the corrosive influence of money in politics by having the Democratic National Committee reject contributions from lobbyists and PACs. This was seen in some circles as a refutation of the GOP and their big money donors, restoring some power to the grassroots. The health of the body politic was being tended to, citizens! Integrity was their watchword and the voices of the masses would be heard once more.

But with another campaign upon us, the DNC has suddenly realized that campaigns cost money, and perhaps all of that outside cash isn’t such a bad thing. (Washington Post)

The Democratic National Committee has rolled back restrictions introduced by presidential candidate Barack Obama in 2008 that banned donations from federal lobbyists and political action committees.

The decision was viewed with disappointment Friday morning by good government activists who saw it as a step backward in the effort to limit special interest influence in Washington. Some suggested it could provide an advantage to Hillary Clinton’s fundraising efforts.

“It is a major step in the wrong direction,” said longtime reform advocate Fred Wertheimer. “And it is completely out of touch with the clear public rejection of the role of political money in Washington,” expressed during the 2016 campaign.

The change in the rules, already apparent to leading Washington lobbyists, was quietly introduced at some point during the past couple of months.

It was done “quietly” alright, but they weren’t leaving the choice to all of the potential, well moneyed financiers. Invitations have been going out to those who might wish to help out the DNC. (Not that you’ll get anything in exchange for your money, of course. Perish the thought.) As early as last summer, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz sent out invitations for people to donate to cover the costs of their convention, but now it’s expanded well beyond that. Three lobbyists told the WaPo off the record that they had already received “invitations” to donate directly to the DNC for all their political activities.

For the most part, they said, the DNC has returned to business as usual, pre-2008. The DNC has even named a finance director specifically for PAC donations who has recently emailed prospective donors to let them know that they can now contribute again, according to an email that was reviewed by The Washington Post.

This is being seen as yet another poke in the eye to Bernie Sanders and an effort to shore up Hillary Clinton’s prospects. There were joint fundraising committees set up in partnership between the DNC and each of the two remaining candidates’ campaigns. The one for Hillary Clinton has already raised $26.9M. But don’t worry, Bernie… they have a similar account for you! So far it’s taken in… one thousand dollars.

Between the debate schedules, the use of the DNC headquarters for the announcement of the Congressional Black Caucus endorsement of Clinton and the superdelegate situation, it’s become obvious that the DNC is so far in the tank for Hillary that they may drown in their own juices. (Oh, and Priorities USA Action just unleashed another $5M in attack ads against Sanders, even though that money was supposed to be held for the general election.) This new layer of massive funding support just adds insult to injury. But the DNC had best hope that their chosen messiah doesn’t wind up in the hoosegow before the convention. They may wind up damaging Bernie Sanders so badly that he won’t remain viable as a runner up if she’s not available.

Seriously, do you really think that even the Democrats would nominate a socialist this year? Sure they’d like to, but even they know this guy is totally not electable. His only function, Of which he wasn’t informed, was to be Hillary’s sparing partner to prove this wasn’t a coronation. But a funny thing happened on the way to the nomination.

Now, if Hillary does have to answer some real questions about how she conducted her past life, the democrats will draft some other old white guy, but not Bernie.

Just one more example that Ds not actually believe any of that horse crap they try to enforce on other people.
Their beliefs got in their way and they simply changed their beliefs and make up some weak justification.

The Dems are so stupid. As bad as Biden may be he is far and away better than anything else they’ve got. The DNC should be pulling the plug on both of these losers and slap Joe up alongside his head and tell him to get out there and win one for the Gipper (Joe wouldn’t know any better).

Hillary is now openly standing up for Obama and defending him and ALL of his actions. She is doing so under direct orders from VAL and LYNCH.IF HILLARY OBEYS they will not press charges against her for her NUMEROUS broken laws.IMHO

Hey, Democrats – The coronation of Hillary is all a scam and a fraud.
Hillary will now bury Bernie.

I’ve long since given up trying to predict what they might do. Nominating a socialist is probably way down the list of “unlikely” things at this point.

Who honestly believes that the Obama-Lynch DOJ will indict or prosecute Her Majesty before the nomination is decided? If at all?

Color me deeply skeptical.

Bernie Sanders single, GREATEST liability, is his age … and not his ‘socialized government’ ideology. There’s too few Senior Citizens left, who remember what it was like to have to do REAL work, just to survive. And these ‘dying-off’ seniors are being replaced by High School graduates, who have been taught the virtues of ‘socialized governance’ and the EVILS of capitalism.

Bernie Sanders as an individual is most likely not electable, but I wouldn’t go calling ‘socialized government’ “totally not electable”.

Plus, we have to consider the Republican’s never-ending ability, to BLOW IT.

I believe the dirt flows both ways Clinton’s have it on Obama is why he hesitates. I also believe a weak showing by Hillary in SC may be the justification to prosecute.

I live in Culver City (West Los Angeles), and for every Hillary bumper sticker there’s two “Feel the Bern” stickers seen during my daily commute. Both categories are dwarfed by the “Obama 2008” and “Obama 2012” sticker group, but then the people with Hillary and Bernie stickers often have those on too.

My next door neighbor is already walking the precinct for Bernie.

Never underestimate the allure socialism has with Democrats. That’s why Bernie is a Democrat to begin with.

To all those who believe nominating Obama twice is the same as nominating a guy with “socialist” in his platform….Obama NEVER specifically said he was a socialist. He was smart enough to know that if he didn’t hide his socialism he would never be able to “transform America”.

BTW all you socialist’s—-here’s what happens when “the people” rise up and make all those nasty wealthy people “pay their fair share”. Doesn’t seem to work out as advertised. But this does happen every time.

During the 2008 presidential campaign, Barack Obama led the way in having the DNC change their rules to remove the corrosive influence of money in politics by having the Democratic National Committee reject contributions from lobbyists and PACs. In the fall of 2007 Barack Obama lied when he stated:

“If I am the Democratic nominee, I will aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election.”

Foreshadowing the first of many lies to come by King Barry:

“We’ve made the decision not to participate in the public financing system for the general election.”

I still don’t really have a handle on why Biden didn’t run in the beginning; lots of speculation about Clinton / Obama deals, but no real solid facts.

I’m so glad the DNC took no PAC or corporate contributions in 2008 and 2012. This has surely been reflected during Barack Obama’s presidency because one thing is for sure, he has not made one decision that was influenced by special interests… Well not many… Well not too many… Well it’s not like every decision the man has made during his presidency was influenced by politics or anything… Never mind.
