Quotes of the day

posted at 8:01 pm on February 12, 2016 by Allahpundit

The adult film actress from a retracted Ted Cruz campaign ad on Friday said she does not blame the Republican presidential hopeful for pulling the spot.

Quite the contrary: Amy Lindsay said the Texas senator is still in the running for her vote.

“He is, he absolutely is,” Lindsay said when asked if she was still considering Cruz on CNN’s “The Lead with Jake Tapper.”

“Like I said, when I did the ad and the words that came out of my mouth … I was speaking from the heart about some of the issues that I think are true problems in this country that we as Americans are facing today,” she said of her role in the ad.

***

RATTNER: Mika thinks that, and I agree with her, that because this woman is doing honest work she should be allowed to be doing honest work.

BRZEZINSKI: Sam Stein, don’t you agree. I mean, it’s a real job. Don’t — Don’t judge her.

SCARBOROUGH: Everybody is talking about Christian values.

BRZEZINSKI: Maybe she was supporting her family.

SCARBOROUGH: “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” Maybe she’s turned over a new leaf or something like that.

….

SCARBOROUGH: Or maybe Ted Cruz just likes hiring porn stars. Which is it?

***

And Lindsay, it turns out, is no stranger to Ted Cruz. The spot for the Texas senator wasn’t just another gig, she said — she is a Cruz supporter, though some might find her politics unusual. She contains multitudes. She is pro-gay marriage, she said. She is pro-gun. She is pro-life. She voted for Ross Perot in 1992. She appears with hardcore king Ron Jeremy in a photo on her Twitter feed. And late Thursday, she was laughing about the ad imbroglio, drinking wine with her father, an open-carry advocate.

“What it comes down to is I don’t want a [expletive deleted] Clinton or Sanders in the White House,” she said. “Even though I’m a softcore actress, I’m voting conservative and Republican … I couldn’t do a Hillary Clinton commercial for all the money in the world.”

Lindsay, who had spoken to Buzzfeed and other outlets earlier in the day, said some liberal publications were trying to shame her — to use her past to take down Cruz in a way inconsistent with the values they purport to stand for.

“It’s a very interesting attack and a different kind of war on women from the left,” she said, comparing her plight to that of Donald Trump’s wife, former model Melania Trump. “… You’re the first folks to condemn me because I showed my boob on the Internet. Are you flipping kidding me?”

***

It’s clear that some of Ted Cruz’s supporters don’t fit the mold of what Ted Cruz wants his supporters to look like; it remains to be seen whether Amy Lindsay—and others whose lives run in contrast to the ultra-homogeneous ideals of the far right—will continue to offer that support.

For a kid of four you don’t expect the supernatural intellect
And me just like the other kids, lived a world of building bricks

My Father’s Name Was Dad, my mother’s name was Mum
How can I take the blame for anything I’ve done?

So now at my present age, which people call the awkward stage
Why should everything be made to look like insane escapades?

See the hollows of my eyes
Make my career of empty skies, I’ll laugh at it all

i like Smokey she is a lot of fun to talk to lol. But then again i like almost everyone on the forums. i even have a special place in my heart for a few of the die hard trolls. there are only maybe 2 or 3 people on HA that i do not like. But they will never know it because i was taught to be nice even to people i don’t like. ~shrugs~ tends to keep the drama to a minimum anyways. besides most of the trolls make me laugh. i have a very sarcastic sense of humor and i enjoy snarky people. about the only thing that really bothers me is when some people sink down to the level of personal attacks. i find that to be indefensible. just because you disagree with someone is no reason to be deliberately cruel. not everyone understands why or how i can feel that way though. but im always open to talking to others. about anything and everything especially if someone NEEDs to talk you know? and for the most part people here seem to like me so i guess im doing pretty good at keeping it reasonable

yeah any time you have questions about anything related to that field ask away i will give you your best bets. here is another important fact. if you or anyone you know is diabetic do NOT allow a manicurist to trim your cuticles for ANY reason. its very dangerous for you. and if you have high blood pressure then you absolutely should NOT have a facial done. Facials include massage of the muscles in your face which stimulates blood flow and in some cases can cause clotting which can lead to a stroke.

Okay, question from the other night. They detected a gravity wave, and claim it came from two massive black holes colliding 1.3 billion years ago.

Since the waves would be omnidirectional, how could they tell where they came from?

Observation of the event via space telescope, then wait for the grav wave? Are grav waves limited to light speed?

Who is John Galt on February 13, 2016 at 3:45 AM

Oh lordy, that first question would take 6 month and enough math to shut down half the internet to answer. Short answer minus the math, they detected it using three separate accelerometers that were set on the x, y and z axises.

Yes, Gravitational wave are limited by the speed of light.

Based on the mathematics of Special relativity, nothing travels faster than the speed of light, well, under normalized local conditions. Yes, in physics there are pretty much always exception to every general rule.

For example, during the expansion phase of the Universe, everything traveled at speeds literally thousands of orders or magnitude faster than the speed of light.

Newtonian physics did not allow for the curvature of space-time, as it did not recognize that space and time were the same thing.

Gravity waves were predicted by Special Relativity, just as Quantum Mechanics were. The laws of physics at the quantum level are not the same as they are at the Special Relativity level.

A whole new field of physics had to be created to deal with quantum physics, with its own set of laws that Special Relativity did not address or predict.

Gravitational physics is very likely to be just like quantum physics in that regard. While predicted in a general sense by Special Relativity, the laws that will be discovered to govern it are not predicted nor addressed by Special Relativity. A whole new filed of physics will need to be created to address those laws.

I have spent the last almost 30 years trying to understand both what gravity is, and what the ramification of it are. I am no expert by any stretch of even my fevered imagination.

I have worked out some rather complicated mathematics on the subject. I used those equation as the video part of this video.

If the equations I worked out are correct, then the implications are pretty significant, and down right weird.

For example, according to my calculations, gravitational waves have (this is the best way I know to explain it, though it is not technically correct) harmonic overtones that follow both the leading and trailing edges of the wave. Those gravitational harmonic overtones propagate through -1 P Brans.(a -1 P Bran represents the physical space that separates the dimensions, or more accurately a kind of void that does and does not separate them)

A -1 P Bran is often called the 11th dimension, because it is a negative void, it actually is in physical contact with every single physical point in the universe all all times.

Since gravitational harmonic overtones propagate through -1 P Brans they propagate faster than light, by an incalculable order of magnitude, in short, instantly. Think Einsteins (Spooky attraction at a distance here) i.e. Quantum entanglement.

The rather weird and crazy implication here, is that the very laws that force gravitational waves to travel through normalized local space-time at the speed of light, also require that their be special circumstances where the speed of light in not a universal constant.

In other words, the conditions that allowed, or even required expansion to exist, still exist and are not excluded as normalized local events.

So… if you understand gravity at the quantum level, not only is the warping of space possible (see Miguel Alcubierre) So is superluminal transition of normalized local space-time.

At least we’re still doing brunch on Sunday, which I just remembered is V-day, so I guess flowers are in order.

But like I told all my friends, “when the jets are lit you ARE going down the runway” so I hope she pulls the flaps lever and we sail off into the blue, or pulls the ejection seat so I can just BOOM! at the end of the runway by myself.

Who’s the sucker now?

Could someone shed a light on this love affair
And help to make me quite aware of what is meant by naked thoughts that have been sent?

An old Reader’s Digest story that has stuck with me for decades, because it came out in the 70s when FemLib was just catching on.

So, two women enter the elevator and the man inside politely doffs his hat (a real one, not a ball cap — when was the last time you saw a gentleman in full business attire?) . The girls start talking, and are throwing around verbiage that would (as we used to say) make a sailor blush. Without a word, the gentleman sets his hat back on his head.

So… if you understand gravity at the quantum level, not only is the warping of space possible (see Miguel Alcubierre) So is superluminal transition of normalized local space-time.

A View From a Christian American Conservative Son of the South: The Politicians Don’t Need Us…Until It’s Time to Vote

kingsjester on February 13, 2016 at 9:13 AM

Interesting essay — if Christian voters are permanently nullified, the end really will be near.

PS – if you can still edit your post, you might want to look at your long quote (duplicated section) and some typos.

A reminder to Ohio Voters…

To vote in the Ohio Primary on 3/15/16, you must be registered to vote
by February 16, 2016.

Ohio has improved their website and a lot of info has been added.

http://www.sos.state.oh.us/sos/elections/Voters/register.aspx

Ohio does not require a voter to declare a party, only that you must be
registered and ask for your desired ballot at your polling place.

Wise, very wise, as always.

It applies to a few others too and their mirrors are all shattered.

Yeah … whatever happened to the term “General Practitioner”? … Did someone wave a magic-wand one day and cause it to disappear?

listens2glenn on February 12, 2016 at 10:52 PM

There are still GP’s–a true GP is someone who did one year of post graduate internship, then set up shop.
I am an FP by training–a Family Practitioner–we do 3 years post grad residencies. I actually did an extra year, so really I am an FP with OB training–I can do C sections, forceps deliveries, etc. (Not that I’ve done THAT in a while!) But I work mainly on adults in the hospital–so I function like an Internal Medicine Doctor–they also do 3 years of training post med school, but don’t deal with kids or lady issues like FP’s.

Doc Holliday on February 12, 2016 at 10:59 PM

Glad I asked … I got more education than I bargained for.

I thought Family Practitioner was just a newer way of saying General Practitioner.

listens2glenn on February 12, 2016 at 11:06 PM

Nope, although that’s what most people think.
I have met some old GP’s–the things these guys dealt with, usually at someone’s house, not in the hospital, would really make your hair stand up. They were definitely tough, and so were the patients to survive some of that stuff.

Doc Holliday on February 12, 2016 at 11:09 PM

I can remember our family doctor coming to our house to check on the progress of measles. Of course, he lived on our street and went to school with my parents, but still..

Anyway, this week in the mail I got an ad for a Mobile Doc – kind of like the dog grooming people, I suppose, or electricians and plumbers. They have medical-equipment in a van and come to you for a quick look rather than you going to the ER, or even your PC/GP/FP/XQ/MD.

I’m going to check them out!

Opps!

AesopFan on February 13, 2016 at 12:01 PM

Maybe in my youth, but I figured out a while back I was rich. Being loved is a great treasure to behold.

Hey, that was six words!

On the subject of politics, specifically the primaries:

If an individual finds themselves crash landed in a wasteland and is is fortunate enough to find two strong horses that could carry them out of the wasteland, the prudent individual rides them gently, since having reached safety at the edge of the wasteland a pair of strong horses would still be useful, or even necessary, for that long journey home.

Riding either horse, or both horses, to death imperils the journey home and leaves the careless and feckless rider stranded.

I like what you wrote above, Miss Jackie. I think it could apply to life in general (with exception to competitive financial/business dealings/sports, where time is of the essence).
I’ve always liked the phrase “steady as she goes” it allows less mistakes (and/or time to correct them). Would have liked to have paid attention to words of wisdom more when I was younger. I think wisdom would be the only thing I wish I could have gained at a quicker pace. ; )
