Video: Cruz declares victory

posted at 12:19 am on February 2, 2016 by Allahpundit

Sorry for the delay in posting this. I waited for him to finish … and waited, and waited. He went on for more than half an hour in all, to the point where I thought he might lapse into “Green Eggs and Ham.” But who cares? The guy pulled off one of the great primary victories of the modern era, overcoming Trump’s celebrity and domination of the media with tireless organizational effort and analytical ingenuity. The alpha male got beat by the data geeks. It’s revenge of the nerds!

A sweet win in so many ways, not just because conservatism trumped populism — for the next week, at least — but because so many of Cruz’s enemies during this campaign deserved the bitterness of losing tonight. Trump and his “Canada Ted” wisecracks are the tip of the iceberg. How about Terry Branstad, Iowa’s crony governor, trying to sink Cruz for standing up against ethanol subsidies? (And how about Cruz winning big in Iowa on that platform?) How about Mike Huckabee doing everything he could, patently out of spite, to sink Cruz as a phony Christian among evangelicals, and coming up short? A nonfactor from the start, he dropped out of the race this evening an hour or two before Cruz celebrated. How about the various Republican lobbyist parasites who spent the last few weeks telling any reporter who’d listen that they preferred the non-conservative Trump to Cruz because Cruz might hurt their gravy train? And how about Sarah Palin spending what little credibility she had left as a conservative populist on Trump because Ted Cruz, establishment nemesis, was allegedly “more of the same”? All of these losers went all in for Trump in Iowa hoping that they could knock Cruz out and clear the populist lane for the phony conservatism who’d be better for their respective business interests than Cruz would. Cruz beat them all. Raise a glass.

As Schwarzenegger said Exactly

Yeah it’s strange.

Winning Iowa is not that big of a deal, up until the last week Cruz was winning all of the polls.

It’s not even really celebration, seems like more of a crazed spittle-flecked meltdown aimed at Trump and his supporters.

Cruz supporters seem to ACTUALLY think that there is a war going on between “conservatism” and “populism” rather than between the establishment and the voters.

Currently there is no “conservatism” in DC, the “conservative movement” has achieved nothing.

Maybe Cruz can be the guy, but there should be more of an attempt to build bridges, no?

It’s not like Trump got 2 percent, he did fairly well.

Great analysis, AP.

As fallon pointed out on the Jazz thread Trump did well in his first foray in electoral politics. Cruz won. I’d have preferred a Trump victory but am more concerned about Rubio. Will take NH and SC to determine if Iowa is relevant. Not sure why conservativism is anti populism/nationalism but Cruz as you said rode the nationalist populist dragon for months and now its bad. I’d prefer Trump/Cruz quit fighting and hit Rubio but who knows. Got my hat and my vote so despite a hangover I’m pretty good

I see the Chump fans are hungover this morning, trying to disguise their disappointment as, “Iowa is a nothingburger”–whereas if Chump had won, it would’ve been “yuge”. See, the problem people have understanding about Iowa, is that the people that come out for the caucuses are SERIOUS about their vote. The ones that arent–stay home. And sure we may be called “evangelical”, but you forget that Iowa jumped on the same sex bandwagon early. We have a strong economy and a strong work ethic. And I resent those who sneer that because one may be evangelical–therefore, their vote shouldn’t count…a Christian has just as much right to their vote as a raging liberal, or a supporter of a democrap-turned-republican. I will let you bots lick your wounds, because this is only the beginning. As I have said before, Iowa is only good for being the guy who gives the big push to the sled–we are the send-off state…nothing more. I get to be a CRUZ delegate to our state convention. Let the games begin, and may the odds be ever in your favor….

Yeah. It was a pity the way that cost us control of the House and any chance at the Senate.

Oh, wait…

And they’ve been a rubber stamp for Obama.

Dick Richard on February 2, 2016 at 1:11 AM

So you’re saying the Republican Congressional Obama Rubber Stamp Squad was the desire of conservative voters?

Follow that line of logic: conservatives were pissed off enough to hasten this country’s decline, they secretly decided to help Obama so we ccould “start over” sooner.

That would mean the pissed off, conservative Trump supporters are doing the same by trying to elect him. (This train can go so many directions once it gets off the rails.)

Thanks for throwing in that new, sinister twist about conservatives. You are the true winner of last night’s Iowa Caucus.

The only ones who are “spittle-flecked” seem to be you Chumpbots. You are proof that Chumps fans are worse than their candidate…

lovingmyUSA on February 2, 2016 at 10:13 AM

Oh, and one last “just kidding” comment…God deliberately held off the big blizzard til overnight. ..schools cancelled, can’t even see out my window. If this had happened at 8pm as origially predicted, the election results would be SIGNIFICANTLY different. As we “evangelicals” call it–its a GOD THING.***ducks and runs…

I don’t know, I see a lot of misdirected rage in the Cruz supporters.

I like Cruz, my focus is on beating the establishment.

Rubio acted like the winner last night.

The good weather was supposed to be Trumps advantage…

right2bright on February 2, 2016 at 11:18 AM

…hopefully the more sensible ones will realize that Iowa going for Cruz isn’t really that big of a deal.

Redstone on February 2, 2016 at 9:25 AM

Actually, it was a big deal. It was the difference between Cruz’s campaign possibly being on life support (if he lost) and injecting a little health (with some momentum) going into some unfriendly territory in the next few states. Make no mistake, losing Iowa would have been disastrous for Cruz.

anuts on February 2, 2016 at 11:23 AM

Wow, way to be ungracious and nasty, AP.

Trump was incredibly gracious and classy, and here you come with classless attacks on Trump and his supporters.
Trump was gracious tonight for exactly three minutes after spending the last four weeks shitting on Cruz in every possible way. “Nasty guy,” “liar,” “no one likes him,” and then basically calling him an illegal immigrant who’s never been a citizen. He’s cordial for three minutes — and I actually complimented him for it in the last post — and suddenly Trump fans are the lords of etiquette, wondering why I can’t be as nice as Donald is. You’re a total embarrassment.

Thank you, Allahpundit, for saying what needed to be said, both here and in your blog above. Well done. And YAY, CRUZ!!!
