Oh yes: The “Hot Air and friends” Iowa livetweet extravaganza

posted at 7:21 pm on February 1, 2016 by Allahpundit

Here’s our election-night Twitter widget! (Twidget?) Scroll down and I’ll explain.

The traditional election open thread from Ed is on its way, and I’ll be adding election news as I come across it throughout the evening to Headlines (which will probably be cycling faster than usual), but we thought hardcore news junkies might find this useful. If you already use Twitter, you know how it works. If you don’t, it’s simple. The Hot Air, Townhall, and Red State editorial staffs will all be on Twitter tonight along with Salem radio hosts commenting on caucus results and Republican reaction. All you have to do to follow our comments in real time is open this post up in a new tab and sit back as the widget updates automatically with fresh content as it happens. The great virtue of Twitter is that breaking news can circulate with lightning speed thanks to the “retweet” function, and anything any one of us retweets will end up right here as well. So, for instance, if the New York Times tweets at 7:30 that turnout looks historic, all I have to do to deliver that news to you is to hit the “retweet” button on my own account and the Times’s scoop will show up in the window above. Frequently you’ll get the news faster this way than you will by watching Fox News or CNN, especially when you have upwards of 20 different people searching for newsworthy material from around the Web. Just another option for your menu as we all prepare to gorge on Iowa.

Ha ha ha…funny, but don’t put that on your FB or wherever people know you, since it’s fake.

fossten on February 1, 2016 at 8:15 PM

Early indicators point to very high turnouts, especially in rural areas. Lots of them are either new voters or people who have voted in Democratic caucuses before and voting in Republican caucuses to vote for or against Trump. Some precincts in Des Moines are loaded with people who say they are feeling the Bern.

Well that’s beneficial for both Trump and Rand, but not so great for Cruz. I can’t decide whether this is good or bad for Rubio.

It would be very nice if someone would stand up at the D caucus sites and say, “Do we want Iowa to go on record as voting for a felon for President?”

TBSchemer on February 1, 2016 at 8:33 PM

Is Leon Wolf trying to ban anybody from Twitter…?

d1carter on February 1, 2016 at 8:34 PM

RUSH: Well, no. No, in fact I saw something — I didn’t actually see this so I have to add a caveat here that what I read might not have portrayed this accurately, but it was a story on a CNN reporterette named Alisyn Camerota. And this report said that Alisyn Camerota admitted that journalists are afraid of Trump destroying them if they criticize him. They don’t want to be called losers or whatever names he calls ’em, so they pull back on the criticism. As I say, I didn’t hear her say that. I read it somewhere. I don’t even remember where. It was over the weekend.

But that happens to be true of a lot of people who are afraid to criticize Trump because they don’t want to be called this or that. It’s amazing how that’s paralyzed the Republicans, vis-a-vis the Democrats, and it’s paralyzing some people about Trump as well. Anyway, David, I appreciate the call.

fossten on February 1, 2016 at 7:56 PM

I like Rush’s point here, that just as Democrats cow Republicans by threatening to call them this or that (names like racist or hater or woman hater or heartless or whatever), Trump also cows people by implicitly threatening to go full Trumptard on them with Twitter and in other venues. Trump has the heart of a liberal, a Democrat, so he’ll bully when pushed up against the wall, he’ll smear and namecall. In fact yesterday he even suggested Cruz doesn’t have a heart. This was after saying Cruz is a maniac, a liar, and is nasty and no one likes him.

LashRambo on February 1, 2016 at 8:35 PM

If Rubio beats out Cruz for second I don’t think I will be able to stop laughing.

Rubio is a turning out to be a chump. Was very surprised how dishonest he got and how quickly people bit.

Think it was voters who didnt trust Trump but were effected by Trump’s (and everyone elses) attacks on Cruz.

Im finding some interesting stuff online today about Rubio’s immigration position. Lots of quiet admitting that the “Gang of 8” bill was complete amnesty with no real security improvements.

Another guy who gets more dishonest the more desperate to win he gets. That is a big alarm bell.

He outright fabrication of Cruz’s position on military spending cuts was pathetic and caused me to cross him off my list of guys i could vote for….

Down to Cruz, Paul, Carson, and Jim Gilcrestmorlandson.

Also, a big shout out to, well….every poll. Did any even have Cruz in the lead within the last 10 days?

So tomorrow when these same people start to tell you who New Hampshire voters are supporting….IGNORE THEM. The polling methodology used in the past is worthless until proven otherwise.

Because it is possible they didn’t vote because they didn’t like their options. Trump has been a very atypical nominee, and his fans are legitimately very invested in his campaign, it was certainly possible they might change behaviors as a result. As the commercials say past performance is no guarantee of future returns. That said I agree that this is not a shocking development.
