Weird new Rand Paul ad hits Ted Cruz for cronyism: “Audit the Ted”

posted at 8:41 pm on January 18, 2016 by Allahpundit

Didn’t Rand Paul say literally three days ago that he was planning to devote “every waking hour” to defeating Trump? His staff must have put this together while he was unconscious since it’s exactly the same attack Trump has been using on Cruz since Saturday — he’s a phony and a crony, a man who sold his soul to the banksters on Wall Street for some campaign cash. All part of Rand’s master plan to advance libertarianism by helping Donald Trump defeat Ted Cruz. Wait, what?

The only way I can explain Paul 2016 continuing to attack Cruz at this stage is to guess that they now view him as Bush 2016 views Rubio, a usurper whose own chances to win must be destroyed as a consolation prize for their own guy’s pitiful failure. The best spin you can put on it is that Rand’a already thinking about 2020 and believes that if he can get back into double digits by taking back some libertarian votes from Cruz, that’s something he can point to a few years from now as a base to build on. Finish at 10-12 percent in Iowa and New Hampshire and you’ve got the makings of a future campaign. Finish at three percent, even against a crowded field, and you’ve got a bright future as Mitch McConnell’s junior partner.

Exit question: How much did it cost to make this ad, six dollars? Is that because Team Rand wanted something simple and eye-catching in a media climate that’s saturated with cookie-cutter political ads or is it because, at this point, they only have about six dollars left?

Ted Cruz 2011:

The Constitution protects birthright citizenship for illegals and it’s a mistake for conservatives to spend time fighting it

Why does that matter?

Because Ted changed his tune last summer … only after TRUMP came on the scene and said something different.

Btw…

Trump 2011:
Anchor babies were NEVER the intent of the 14th Amendment
The root cause of all the welfare payments to illegal aliens is the so-called “anchor baby” phenomenon, which is when illegal immigrant mothers have a baby on American soil. The Fourteenth Amendment… was not intended to guarantee untrammeled immigration to the United States. Source: Time to Get Tough, by Donald Trump, p.140-141 , Dec 5, 2011

“I want immigration reform to pass.” -Ted Cruz

You know a YouTube video is absolute garbage when they block comments and ratings. It’s what every anti-gun group does, and apparently, now Rand Paul too. Let’s face it, no channel owner hides the ratings for videos that have more likes than dislikes.

kcewa on January 18, 2016 at 9:12 PM

Don’t knock it. Its got you and a bunch of other people talking. Whatever it cost, its working.

I’m glad he’s attacking Cruz. Cruz gets away with so much pandering, its sickening. The only thing firm about his conservatism is being an “anti-establishment” blowhard. But he plays all other sides of the conservative coalition like a fiddle. No wonder people get sick of him.

Its not secret that Huckabee and Santorum don’t like him. When the socon wind blows, Cruz turns into a Kim Davis booster, Mr. Religious Right, and tries to usurp their votes. When the libertarian wind blows, he tries to outflank Rand on tenth amendment issues and other libertarian issues. When national security is hot, he blows neo-con, and when people are tired of war and intervention, he blows paleo-con. He is both Mr. Wall street free markets and anti-establishment populist. When he gets signals from Beck that its okay to go to border he goes, when he realizes it not, he stops…

He’s a slick as they come and people are catching on.

swamp_yankee on January 18, 2016 at 9:13 PM

I believe the ad is a cheap revenge for skipping the “Audit the Fed” vote. And yeah, “Audit the Ted” is quite memorable and gonna sting for a while – possibly, a LONG while.

This is weird too:

And Playing The Role Of A Presidential Candidate Eating His Own Words Is Senator Ted Cruz:

Well, just when you thought that Ted Cruz’s family tree didn’t fork, you find out about branches growing which every way.

On Ted Cruz’s Canadian birth certificate, his mother is listed as Eleanor Darragh Wilson, using the last name of her first husband, Alan Wilson. The Fort Worth native and long-time resident of London, Wilson is now an unwitting player in the drama that surrounds Cruz’s family.

More a bit of fun than an actual campaign ad, but Making Machine Gun Bacon with Ted Cruz got over a million hits on youtube. And as Pelosi Schmelosi already noted, Invasion.

This Rand Paul ad is so sorry it’s only going to hurt him, not help – and I can’t see that it hurts Cruz either, at least not much. The entire “Cruz is a globalist owned by wall street” conspiracy theory is absurd to anyone who knows anything about his history or bothers to do even a little learning about the candidates.

So he learned more about Trump and saw how Trump behaved in the following 6 months. Trump said only WEEKS ago that Cruz was a great guy, great temperament, honest, etc. Talk about pandering – Cruz rises in the polls a bit, and Trump blatantly and opportunistically flip flops and starts outright lying about him, claiming he’s a nasty guy who’s “bought” when the “loan” was fully backed by CRUZ’S OWN MONEY and was reported publicly at the same time on his candidate’s personal financial disclosure report.

Trump just lies – about this, about Carson, about Rand Paul, about virtually anything and everything, both big and small. It’s really despicable.

Give me a break. Trs said blatantly that he didn’t want to attack trump in the hopes that he fails and he gets his supporters. Even when Trump started slapping him with little jabs, he blamed the media for wanting a fight. Both men are opportunistic, but Cruz is also a coward…. No cojones as Sarah would say.
