Politinerds: Karen England of Privacy for All

PolitinerdsHotAir

This week on Politinerds we air an interview we conducted before the holidays with Karen England, spokesperson for Privacy for All in California. Their group was attempting to get an initiative on the ballot out on the left coast which would have prevented the state from forcing people to share public bathrooms, locker rooms and other facilities with people of the opposite gender in the name of political correctness. In particular, they were concerned with women going into a public ladies room and encountering a man claiming to be a woman. Unfortunately, their effort fell short of the number of signatures required to get on the ballot but they have more actions planned in the future.

Karen covers the whole spectrum of privacy issues regarding the “transgender” question and similar efforts around the nation. It’s a wide ranging conversation and one you won’t want to miss.

Remember, the show is now available on iTunes so you can catch up with us as soon as new episodes air. And for you non-iTunes users, there’s still the archive of all our previous shows.

Geez…I wish I could use the ladies room in most public places.
It is always much cleaner and they have those pretty little dishes filled with those nice smelling soaps.

You darn metrosexuals gonna ruin everything! Next thing you know, all the restrooms will have pretty little dishes filled with those nice smelling soaps.

And there won’t be any Boraxo or bars of Lava to be found anywhere.

platypus on January 8, 2016 at 9:37 AM

I also prefer pretty little dishes that smell nice.

Fenris on January 8, 2016 at 9:42 AM

If anyone is really worried about this, just don’t use public restrooms.

Walter L. Newton on January 8, 2016 at 9:48 AM

I’ve a feeling this is all going to inevitably lead to unisex bathrooms and locker rooms; rows of completely enclosed individual toilet stalls, some with their own urinals (a la porta-potties), and only sinks in the communal area. The locker rooms will be the same thing, only with showers included in the toilet stalls.

All because the left’s quest for gender-identity complacency and validation will completely override our concerns for privacy and security, in the eyes of the law. And offering a “third-option” restroom won’t be enough for them, as they’ll throw the same arguments at us that they used to shoot down “civil unions”. So places open to the public will have to go the more expensive route of completely redoing their restrooms.

Actually I’ve heard just the opposite…horror stories from past female co-workers about the conditions left by their fellow wyminz in the stalls.

I mean, the guys room has been disgusting a time or two, but nothing like what’s been described.

I really don’t care. I’ve shared public restroom with all sexes and with those who identify differently than their birth gender.

It’s a non-issue. Just don’t use public restroom if you’re concerned.

In other parts of the world, unisex restrooms have been the norm for many, many years.

Where possible, make restroom unisex. Let’s see if the SJW’s have a problem with that? Wanna bet they complain. It’s not a matter of who can use what restroom, it’s a matter of being singled out as “special.”

All these lefties have to feel special, courtesy of society.

Unisex restroom are 100’s of year old.

Women having privacy in public restrooms has never been a problem in this country.

Not until a few screwed up freaks, incapable of operating a mirror, starting whining about their poor itty bitty feelings.

Why?? Why go through ANY trouble or expense for that particular form of mental illness?? Why should the public or private property owner have to do that for ..what?…..003% of a population?? If that would be acceptable, how about street signs at crosswalks?..how about Men’s clothes/Womens clothes designated areas in stores, etc?
How about this:
Stop letting the mentally ill determine social norms?

Mimzey on January 8, 2016 at 11:32 AM

The cognitive dissonance is amazing imo. But maybe I’m not understanding the basis of your thought.

Walter, do you recognize that “transsexuals are severely mentally ill or do you attribute some other cause for their bazaar demands?

Expense. Change the sign. Bingo, all fixed.

Every see woman rushing into the men’s room at a crowed national football game?

It’s the same thing in other countries. They’ve been doing that for years.

If you are bothered by all this, avoid public restrooms.

Walter L. Newton on January 8, 2016 at 11:37 AM

Walter L. Newton on January 8, 2016 at 9:48 AM

I guess this is the “modern” thinking. 99 percent of the people do not want to share restroom facilities with people of the opposite sex, let alone share them with people of questionable sex. In stead of accommodating the 99 percent, we are required by Walter L. Newton and the social justice pukes to give up our rights to use the public restrooms because we really aren’t public public. All the rights go to the 1 percent.

Old Country Boy on January 8, 2016 at 11:42 AM

Mimzey on January 8, 2016 at 11:37 AM

Nope. I don’t see them as anymore “mentally ill” then some of the depressed people I work with, the folks I know with eating disorders, alcoholics I know (I could go on)…

I see nothing bizarre with their demands. I’m sometimes bothered by the strong-armed tactic that these special snowflakes make, but I’m generally not bothered by it.

No more than I’m bothered by the gay lifestyle or adults that dress up as comic book characters at sci-fi conventions.

Blacks were the one percent at one time and they wanted to use public bathrooms.

And you’re not required by Walter L. Newton to do anything.

It’s my opinion, it’s the way I see the situation.

You don’t see it the same way.

Then you have all the right to “fight” it.

Walter L. Newton on January 8, 2016 at 11:44 AM

Expense. Change the sign. Bingo, all fixed.

How about the expense of lawsuits and lost clientele? Again..WHY bother with such idiotic crap. If you’re a man who dresses like a woman, you’re mentally ill and should seek help. It’s not like other disabilities like those that would require a wider door or stall or handrails for people in wheelchairs etc.

Every see woman rushing into the men’s room at a crowed national football game?

It’s the same thing in other countries. They’ve been doing that for years.

And?? Why is it always one way and not the other? Where are the calls for these “other countries” to adopt OUR values?

If you are bothered by all this, avoid public restrooms.

Walter L. Newton on January 8, 2016 at 11:37 A

Again…don’t know why it has to be repeated, other than willful ignorance, but WHY should any individual or business have to comply with the whiny wants of mentally ill individuals and their enablers?

Mimzey on January 8, 2016 at 11:55 AM

Nope. I don’t see them as anymore “mentally ill” then some of the depressed people I work with, the folks I know with eating disorders, alcoholics I know (I could go on)…

Ummm…those people are mentally ill.
Your comparisons would only be valid if those people…and by extension the law demanded that all people around them alter their behavior to act like their depression, eating disorder, alcoholic behavior (which would have to be obvious and overt) was normal and they should continue it with your support.

I see nothing bizarre with their demands. I’m sometimes bothered by the strong-armed tactic that these special snowflakes make, but I’m generally not bothered by it.

Again…YOU don’t see anything wrong with it.

No more than I’m bothered by the gay lifestyle or adults that dress up as comic book characters at sci-fi conventions.Walter L. Newton on January 8, 2016 at 11:42 AM

Again..it seems like your analogies are weak at best. Would it bother you if people who are gay, demanded that others–all others– accept the periphery of that lifestyle..maybe want straight men and women to watch gay porn or listen to their gay politics?
Your other example of people dressing up as a sci-fi character is simply just that, people who dress up as a character. If those people demanded that you recognize their antics by behaving like you actually believed they were whoever they chose to dress up like was real, would that be the same thing??..you know..like a man dressing up as a woman?

Mimzey on January 8, 2016 at 12:13 PM

Unisex restroom are 100’s of year old.

Walter L. Newton on January 8, 2016 at 11:44 AM

You’re comparing blacks with mentally ill freaks? (just a response in the league of liberal thinking)

Mimzey on January 8, 2016 at 12:19 PM

Walter..just to clarify your scope of what constitutes mentally ill.
Is an adult man or woman who dresses up like an infant with a diaper, a bonnet and a pacifier, talking like a baby, mentally ill?

Mimzey on January 8, 2016 at 12:22 PM

In stead of accommodating the 99 percent, we are required by Walter L. Newton and the social justice pukes to give up our rights to use the public restrooms because we really aren’t public public. All the rights go to the 1 percent.

Old Country Boy on January 8, 2016 at 11:42 AM

Maybe Walter has a dog in the fight, so to speak. He could be in a significant relationship with a transitioning person.

Maybe he’s the transitioning person.

Or Occam’s Razor – he’s just a liberal/libertarian (slight difference between them) with passive-aggressive totalitarian tendencies.

Non sequitur.

A “lifestyle” is a choice. A person who demands that everyone else honor the quirks of that “lifestyle” is a behavioral fascist imo.

You seem to avoid anything you don’t want to confront..at least it seems that way.
Why not simply answer my questions if your position is so sound??

JackM on January 8, 2016 at 12:58 PM

Actually, I’d take it a step farther. Walter seems to believe that mental illness is simply a lifestyle choice. What next..after unisex bathrooms are the new norm, why not giant diaper changing stations so the 60 yr old man who chooses the “lifestyle” of being a baby in a diaper, bonnet, and bottle and having someone change his diaper won’t feel discriminated against?

Mimzey on January 8, 2016 at 1:51 PM

correct me if i am wrong, and if it happens to just be a grammatical error then ignore this, but it seems to me the statement made here ” To Harm, no foul” means that if it harms someone it doesn’t matter. the correct phrase would have been no harm no foul. But from reading other posts i have to say that the way you wrote it is in line with your thinking pattern more than the original quote. as a survivor of sexual assault ( which DID take place in a PUBLIC locker room) Your argument is EXTREMELY offensive and terrifying. You Mr. Newton seem to be publicly advocating that men who wish to practice sexual deviance and prey on women have more rights to their wants than I do to be able to pee in safety. Do not try to tell me that this is rare and i am an extreme case. ALL sexual assaults are extreme cases of a very nasty violent bent and the fact that people like you think i should have to give up my right to be able to use public facilities because trans and gay folks are uncomfortable using special restrooms is ridiculous. are you the man in the DA’s office who blames the victim ? because to be honest your comments make me believe you really are

The ONLY reason this is an issue is because the left decided to shut down all of the mental institutions.

It would be much better for society…and much cheaper…to re-open and/or rebuild the mental institutions!!! All of these special spaces can be equipped with the odd bathrooms for the gender-confused and other sickos who cannot seem to process the obvious.

Best of all, they can then leave the rest of society alone.
