ABC: Gunman who murdered journalists apparently sent fax blaming Charleston shooting, mistreatment as black gay man

posted at 3:21 pm on August 26, 2015 by Allahpundit

Someone claiming to be “Bryce Williams” called ABC News over the past few weeks, before the shooting, asking if he could pitch a story and fax them some information but never did. The shooting in Virginia happened at 6:46 a.m. this morning. A little later, a 23-page fax timestamped 8:26 a.m. ET arrived at ABC News, followed some 90 minutes after that by another call from “Bryce” claiming that his real name was Vester Lee Flanagan, the same as the man accused of murdering Alison Parker and Adam Ward.

No hard proof yet that the man who sent the fax was in fact the shooter, but c’mon. If you’re interested in what might be rattling around a degenerate’s mind as he lay in wait preparing to shoot two people in cold blood, convinced that God himself had told him to act, here you go. From the fax:

“What sent me over the top was the church shooting. And my hollow point bullets have the victims’ initials on them.”

It is unclear whose initials he is referring to. He continues, “As for Dylann Roof? You (deleted)! You want a race war (deleted)? BRING IT THEN YOU WHITE …(deleted)!!!” He said Jehovah spoke to him, telling him to act.

Later in the manifesto, the writer quotes the Virginia Tech mass killer, Seung Hui Cho, and calls him “his boy,” and expresses admiration for the Columbine High School killers. “Also, I was influenced by Seung–Hui Cho. That’s my boy right there. He got NEARLY double the amount that Eric Harris and Dylann Klebold got…just sayin’…

–He says has suffered racial discrimination, sexual harassment and bullying at work. –He says he has been attacked by black men and white females. –He talks about how he was attacked for being a gay, black man.

“The church shooting was the tipping point,” he wrote, “but my anger has been building steadily,” comparing himself to a “human powder keg.” He claims he put down a deposit on a gun on June 19, just two days after the massacre in Charleston. If that’s true, notes Charles Cooke, it likely means Flanagan bought his gun from a licensed dealer, which means he passed a background check. But wait: Can it be that a man who thought “Jehovah” was urging him on to kill had showed no signs of mental illness before today? Nope, according to sources quoted by the NYT. Flanagan was apparently a volatile presence at work with a history of “bizarre” behavior:

At WDBJ, Mr. Williams “quickly gathered a reputation as someone who was difficult to work with,” [general manager Jeffrey] Marks said.

“He was sort of looking out for people to say things that he could take offense to,” Mr. Marks said. “Eventually, after many incidents of his anger coming to the fore, we dismissed him. He did not take that well, and we had to call the police to escort him from the building.”…

“He was a good on-air performer, pretty good reporter, and then things started getting a little strange with him,” Don Shafer, who worked with Mr. Williams at WTWC, said in a broadcast on the station where he now works in San Diego. He said Mr. Williams’ contract had been terminated, in part, because of bizarre behavior and threats to other employees.

He sued both news outlets for racial discrimination but the complaints went nowhere, said Marks, because no one could corroborate the anti-black and/or anti-gay comments allegedly made to him. Makes me wonder, per the tidbit in the excerpt above, if “Jehovah’s” wasn’t the only phantom voice Flanagan ever heard.

Via Mediaite, here’s a WDBJ bio video of Alison Parker posted just last month. Spend a few minutes acquainting yourself with one of the victims, who always get short shrift in the frenzy after a shooting to better understand the killer. Cooke notes that the fact that Flanagan knew Cho Seung-Hui, Eric Harris, and Dylan Klebold by name may itself have impelled him onward to kill. Mass murder is, after all, an act by which losers transform grievance into media glory. Also, if you’re one of the few people who hasn’t yet seen either the WDBJ footage of the shooting or Flanagan’s own depraved recording of it: First, I congratulate you sincerely on your restraint, and second, I can further discourage you from watching by telling you that the clips are more “fear porn” than “gore porn.” I saw the WDBJ clip before we knew anyone had been shot; it started circulating on Twitter early this morning as a sort of “what the hell happened here?” thing, not as a snuff video. You can’t tell that anyone’s been hit, which led me to think that Parker and Ward had inadvertently picked up the sound of gunshots that were close by but not aimed at them. Flanagan’s own video popped up on social media around 90 minutes after everyone learned what had happened. I clicked it, admittedly, out of pure “this can’t possibly be what I think it is” prurience, and it’s excruciating. Again, no blood, but something worse — the agony of watching a killer stalk his victims, literally within arm’s length for 10 seconds or so, before he pulls the gun and fires. What you come away with from both is the sound of Alison Parker screaming in mortal terror in what you know are the last few moments of her life. It’s a waking nightmare. Resist if you can.

Listen in the South there is a creepy gun fetish death cult. Southerners are violent by nature. They worship guns. They sleep with their guns, they probably have sexual relations with their guns after doing it with their cousins. What I’m saying is it is extremely easy to get a gun down south. You can grab one off the gun rack of a random pickup truck at the waffle house car park.

Let’s not get out of control here and loose our collective minds. Just because one homosexual African-American man is a depraved killer does not mean all homosexuals or African-Americans are killers. Don’t let this story derail the progress that peaceful protesters have accomplished.

Well isn’t that just so astute of you. Magnanimous too. And oh so brilliant for you to recognize the trouble people get into when pairing with broad brushes.

But about those broad brushes you call on us all to avoid using:

It seems many of these recent senseless violent acts have some sort of gay or pedophile connection. There’s this guy, the train conductor, and the guy that flew the plane into the mountain. It’s like they all have some sort of mental illness. Can we connect the dots?

Ok, let me know if this makes sense.

A dumba$$ nut job kills a group of black people in a church and he just so happens to own a confederate flag. Therefore all things connected to the confederacy must be banished and destroyed from the public areas.

Now a self-hating, gay black nut job kills two white people in response to the church killings hoping to start a race war.

Does this mean that all things gay will now be banished and destroyed from the public areas.

Just asking.

Both of these two young men are/were obviously troubled. One is dead another is still alive. They might not have been psychotic, but they were mentally troubled when they committed their crimes. This is what the Democratic party, their MSM, their Public School system, and the new legacy of black American Churches have done to America’s black community.

The Democratic party would collapse without hate…enough said.

MSM…where to start? Dan Rather? Stephen Glass? Brian Williams? The list of lying reporters is too long for HA’s comment sections (probably even too long for their front page). I’ll just focus on their support of black racism right now, starting with George Zimmerman (there were many more before Zimmerman), and the term “white Hispanic.” False stories promoting “innocent black children” (over 6-foot “children”) being murdered by white policemen, and then the 24/7 news cycle of positive news on black racist mobs. Destroying a community and burning local businesses is surely “positive” news that needs 24/7 promoting, huh.

Public School system … pushing politics for the Democratic party has left America’s children lacking in math, reading & writing, history, science, etc. skills. The United States of America being the world’s biggest ‘Slaver’ for over 300 years starts in the history classes. Science…how evil white men’s greed destroys the poor penguins and the incredibly ‘vulnerable’ Planet Earth (white men also destroyed all the Ice Ages even when humans weren’t around).

Black American churches like TUCC and the House Of The Lord Church in Brooklyn (the one where Reverend Leah D. Daughtry preaches hatred of white Americans … or maybe even the one where her racist father, Reverend Dr. Herbert Daughtry, preaches hatred against whites…probably against “white Hispanics” also) exposed what goes on in many black American churches. BTW, the racist Reverend Leah D. Daughtry was CEO of the 2008 Democratic National Convention Committee.

A black racist as “CEO of the 2008 Democratic National Convention Committee” …

You liberal ass clowns have no problems leashing lawful weapon owners, right? One can’t even score a decent looking liberal chick these days without publicly coming up with a new gun restriction. Why shouldn’t we suggest to leash another, much more dangerous according to public statistics, population group?

Rix on August 26, 2015 at 4:56 PM

Rix, I’m no troll, nor am I liberal.

In fact, as I don’t really recognize your name, I’m willing to bet I’ve been here far longer than you. I think it’s been 6 years I’ve been posting sporadically. Go ahead and search my nom over the past 6 years and find a single liberal thing I’ve said. Rogerb would have me dead to rights if I had. (I’ll save you time, though, Rix, you won’t find any.)

Further, I called everdiso/sequipidwhatever to task for trying to politicize this tragedy while the bodies were still warm. I refuse to do so out of respect for the dead.

In that same way, I’ll call you out for your blatant racism. Suggesting the black people ought to be leashed is stupid, racist, and harmful to conservative efforts to reach out to the black populace. Yes, young black men are responsible for a disproportionate percentage of crime in this country, nearing a majority of violent crimes. That’s a significant problem that needs to be fixed. “Conservatives” who suggest that ALL violent crime is the result of black men makes the job of conservatives who are trying to reach out to the black community harder.

Black people are just that, people. They’ve been lied to and manipulated by the same government that, I assume, you want to rein in. (To, “leash”, as it were.) Suggesting that all blacks are animals is antithetical to that goal and racist. Not in the “Disagreeing with Obama is RACIST!” sense, but in the actual sense of thinking an entire race of people is subhuman sense.

So, you’re happy being a racist. That’s great. I’ll shame you for it, just as I did that ghoul everdiso for his immediate politicization of this crime as well.

In fact, the U.S. might, as a counterfactual, be better off today had the South won the war.

So while I appreciate your concern for ‘conservatives’, I prefer that conservatives stop mocking and denying the institutionalized racism that does in fact exist in this country. But I encourage and appreciate your efforts at cleaning your own house.
I understand why many conservatives feel defensive on this issue. For many, it is a very unfair and unfounded charge for them to be called or accused of being racists or having racial animosity.
But the knee jerk response to to the valid and real aspects of this issue is way too often the Michelle Malkin inspired sarcastic “raaaacccciiiisssstttt” mockery.

Anyway, this VA guy was a murderous and evil as$hole. At his core, he is no different at all from the murderous evil as$hole in Charlotte.

Racism does exist. I grew up in the Midwest where the population of my town was 97.3% white. The remaining 2.7 were not black, either.

Several of the older people I grew up around were clearly racist. Not in the blatant hatred kind of way, but considering black people as something else.

However, racism is not a significant problem anymore. The focus on racism is detrimental to blacks, as well, leading to hyper-sensitivity and seeing racism where it isn’t. Racism can create hurdles, but those hurdles are less prevalent and less troublesome than at any time in our history. (Except, maybe 6 years ago prior to the purposeful racial division of our current president.)

Much more significant to the future of black people is the breakdown of their social structures and specifically the black family. Focusing on racism (by liberals) ignores the most pressing issues and places the blame outside of black culture when black culture is currently a much larger problem than anything exterior to it. Blacks who say this are castigated because it’s far easier to tell someone it’s not their fault, but rather the fault of that “other” group.

And, yes, thinking blacks are subhuman is harmful to blacks. That’s not really an argument that will resonate with a racist like Rix, though. Which is why I made the argument something that might resonate.

For sure there are internal factors – but that doesn’t negate the external or historical ones.
So while your comments are more thoughtful than ‘they only have themselves to blame’, there’s a strain of that in this argument.
I’m not all that concerned with ‘root causes’ when it comes to specific acts by individuals. By that I mean I don’t accept it as an excuse for illegal or violent behavior. But for sure it’s the elephant in the room – and ignoring it requires a lot of effort.

Hey, Ed and Allah, whatever happened to the practice of banning cretins like this closet optimist fellow?

Is his personal attack to be tolerated??

Sherman1864 on August 27, 2015 at 9:20 AM

Is isn’t and shouldn’t be a reason for banning.
If that was the case, I’d be the cause of a lot of commenters being banned.
Oh, the things they say…

A moment of lucidity, indeed.

However, this is just lunacy. Because you NEVER have been able to show any of this “institutionalized racism”.

The only provable example of institutionalized racism I can find in this country today is Affirmative Action. Started, grown, fed and defended to this day by leftist Democrats.

So when it comes to “denying the institutionalized racism that does in fact exist in this country,” I wouldn’t gripe to or about conservatives if I were you. You’re a big supporter of institutionalized racism, while at the same time denying that it is what it actually is.

But try reading the fuller exchange.

Democrats and liberals own almost ALL of the “institutions” and verbalduece wants to whine about institutionalized racism. You better get to work on that duece.

As with all drones, he doesn’t understand the definitions of the words he types out. He just likes the sound of the phrase “institutionalized racism” and has heard Critical Race Theory adherents parrot it so he thinks it makes him seem intelligent.

Another great example recently was in Wisconsin when Gwen Moore said something to the effect that Walker literally is holding a noose around the necks of African Americans. Clearly she doesn’t understand the definition of “literally,” or she wouldn’t use it in conjunction with a metaphor.

Remember, leftists are deeply ignorant people.
