Hm: Hillary was warned over private e-mail use, security?

posted at 9:31 pm on March 3, 2015 by Mary Katharine Ham

Several have wondered, surely there was someone in the Clinton orbit who said, “Hey, maybe it’s not the greatest idea ever for you to ignore federal records acts, never get a government e-mail, and so obviously hide everything you do during your tenure at the State Department.” Well, there wasn’t anyone close enough to her to care to get the message through, apparently, but there was someone. Lowly IT guy, take a bow:

State Department technology experts expressed security concerns that then–Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was using a private email service rather than the government’s fortified and monitored system, but those fears fell on deaf ears, a current employee on the department’s cybersecurity team told Al Jazeera America on Tuesday.

The employee, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of losing his job, said it was well known that Clinton’s emails were at greater risk of being hacked, intercepted or monitored, but the warnings were ignored.

“We tried,” the employee said. “We told people in her office that it wasn’t a good idea. They were so uninterested that I doubt the secretary was ever informed.”

The Clinton e-mail address at issue had in fact already been revealed by a previous hacking:

The first hint of a secret Clinton email address came from the infamous Romanian hacker who used the nom-de-hack ‘Guccifer.’ He was later sentenced to four years in prison for his illegal exploits.

Marcel Lazar Lehel – Guccifer’s real name – breached the email account of Sidney Blumenthal, a former Bill Clinton aide who later joined Mrs. Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign. Blumenthal had sent emails to her at the ‘clintonemails.com’ address, according to The Smoking Gun.

Some of the messages Guccifer leaked online consisted of intelligence reports, sent in late 2012 to Clinton’s back-channel address, and covered matters in Libya – including the aftermath of the September 11, 2012 terror attack in Benghazi.

The Smoking Gun has more details:

While he rummaged through Blumenthal’s e-mail account, “Guccifer” sorted mail sent to Clinton’s [email protected] address. He then took a screen grab showing more than two dozen e-mails sent over a two-month period ending in mid-February 2013.

Along with Valentine’s Day greetings and a mention of Clinton “walking in my neighborhood,” the subject lines of those Blumnethal e-mails include repeated references to “intel” shared with the Secretary of State. Other subject lines refer to “Q you raised” and “got your message a few days ago; I’m around whenev…” A February 17 e-mail included the subject line, “H: fyi, will continue to send relevant intel. Sid.”

I’ve always said that to understand Bill you have to see the 1949 Robert Rosson film adaptation of Robert Penn Warren’s novel All The King’s Men with Broderick Crawford as Willy Stark.

And to understand Hillary! you have to watch the 1962 John Frankenheimer film adaptation of Richard Condon’s novel The Manchurian Candidate with Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Iselin.

(You can safely ignore the remakes of both.)

Bill, like Willy, is simply out for what he can get.

Hillary!, like Mrs. Iselin, is out for what she can do to people she dislikes, which is pretty much everybody.

Would you seriously expect her to use a system which she knows has to be public record?

I. Don’t. Think. So.

OK everyone including MKH. I think you are all missing the point of this news. There are TWO separate stories here. The Hillary defense team is trying to bundle them together as one and defend them both from the position of most confusion. That is, is it “truly illegal to use a private E-Mail account”. The more important issue here, and apparently was warned about it is “DID she transmit classified information by unsecured means”. If so then she goes to jail. End of story. Need more info as Snowdon, Manning or Petraeus. That’s your story.

YES, YES SHE DID. As Secretary of State, Hillary corresponded with foreign govts. about US security, defense and intelligence. So, YES, yes she did transmit classified information (via “her own” or private email and not a .gov account).

I did some googling and found a few interesting hits:
• the Korean article about the hacked Sid Blumenthal email exchange with Hillary from March 2013 in which an email address was exposed, [email protected], that showed she pretty clearly was talking SecState stuff with the account[http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:BhNHk_Xa8dgJ:m.mediatoday.co.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=108775]
and
• a WebBoar page that reflected that mail.clintonemail.com server being listed as the MX for ANOTHER interesting domain:presidentclinton.com

FishingwFredo on March 3, 2015 at 9:42 PM

Could be speculated that: since Benghazi investigation knew about Hillary’s exclusive use for SoS correspondence, while SoS of “her own” email (in violation of job reqs. of SoS), for months now (since June, I think I read)…it could be speculated that the news is only now released to the public because Obama/Dems want it used to smear Hillary.

Al Jazeera would be a good tool to use to do that when you consider who wants her smeared.

Not that I don’t want her smeared. More appropriately, I’d like those who think she’d make a viable President to be smeared but there’s no accounting for bad taste.

The point being that someone I read yesterday opined that it might be that Obama wants her smeared. It wouldn’t be the first time the Democrats needed to eat their own, especially as to the dagger-wars between Obama-Clinton and their followers.

Lourdes on March 3, 2015 at 10:28 PM

Yet another thought! If she was using personal , unsecured E-Mail accounts to correspond with all these heads of states and foreign governments then dose that not expose all of there E-mail Accounts to a security breach. That would make Hillary a POISON PILL. End of the Clinton’s around the world.

COULD SHE HAVE BEEN THIS STUPID?

Mrs. Clinton, if elected President of the United States, will you use secure email, or will you continue to use the hackable private email you used as Secretary of State?

Also Lindsay Graham totally flubbed this question on Fox tonight if he is serious about running on security cred (which is a joke) He is focused on the lack of transparency and accountability. He said it was fine to use private email-FAIL.

…Am I the only one who thinks the timing of her laying low, then a weekend “launching next month” article, followed by this, is all to coincidental?

Either she was laying low, waiting for this to surface, or the NYT dropped it on top of launch so she could deal with it ASAP.

NYT and WaPo have done the kill-the-scandal-quick bit numerous times.

It doesn’t make any sense for this to be conversational now, forget Benghazi. She knew after Guccifier.

So all I can conclude, is the NYT knows what’s in the emails and it’s going to be a disaster for her, especially if she threw Barry under the bus during any exchanges.

Remember Secretary Clintons high praise for Al Jz?

Al-Jazeera’s esteem in the United States has reached unprecedented heights in the aftermath of its coverage of the revolutionary uprising in Egypt, which clearly displayed how embarrassingly inadequate US cable news outlets are by comparison. Even Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was compelled recently to concede that al-Jazeera English (AJE) provides “real news” coverage and actual on-the-ground journalism, unlike its American counterparts, which, she said, rely too heavily on cheap punditry. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/cifamerica/2011/mar/10/al-jazeera-us-television

Hillary Clinton needs to get a team of lawyers,.

Clinton provided reams of classified information to an unsecured private company which is not cleared to receive it. Each email with secured information provided to that company is a felony crime under 18 US Code 798.
