Michael Brown’s stepfather under investigation for pre-riot ‘burn this b**** down’ comments

posted at 5:01 pm on December 2, 2014 by Noah Rothman

In the wake of the Ferguson grand jury’s determination that there was no probable cause to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown, incensed rioters took to the streets of that Missouri city and neighboring towns where they burned and looted a number of local businesses.

Those riots were preceded by an anguished speech delivered by Brown’s mother who tearfully lamented the grand jury’s decision before a crowd of supporters. She was joined by her husband and Michael Brown’s stepfather, Louis Head, who expressed his grief in a somewhat less constructive way.

“Burn this s*** down!” Head exclaimed as the crowd of supporters grew more agitated. “Burn this b**** down!”

The videotape of these remarks soon went viral and was featured on a variety of news websites and cable news networks. Some who were present for Head’s comments claimed that the crowd’s disposition changed after these remarks, and they may have precipitated some of the violence that marred that night. “I think he was expressing a sentiment that a lot of folks in that crowd felt,” St. Louis Alderman Antonio French told Jake Tapper. “When he said those words, though, the mood did change and things got a little bit out of control.”

Those remarks have also caught the attention of local law enforcement. Authorities announced on Tuesday that Head will face a formal investigation for those comments and the role they may have played in sparking riotous violence.

“No charges have been filed against Louis Head in the incident, but police have interviewed people who know Head and who were with him November 24, the day a prosecutor announced that Officer Darren Wilson (who has since resigned) would not be indicted in the August 9 shooting of Michael Brown, Police Chief Tom Jackson said,” CNN reported. “Police have not spoken to Head about his actions, but they intend to do so, Jackson said, adding that multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in the investigation.”

Jackson revealed that his department planned to look into Head’s remarks in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, but he did not classify it as a formal investigation at the time.

“We can’t let all that happened in Ferguson and Dellwood and the community die. Everyone who is responsible for taking away people’s property, their livelihoods, their jobs, their businesses — every single one of them needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” he told the Fox News host after calling Head’s remarks “indefensible.”

Considering the charged environment surrounding this event and the unrest the Ferguson grand jury’s decision has sparked across the country, investigating Head for potentially inciting violence has to be a relatively low priority for law enforcement.

During a speech in Atlanta on Monday, Attorney General Eric Holder was interrupted by protesters. Holder insisted that the group of protesters shouldn’t be criticized, according to CNN.

“There will be a tendency on the part of some to condemn what we just saw, but we should not,” Holder said. “What we saw there was a genuine expression of concern and involvement. And it is through that level of involvement, that level of concern and I hope a level of perseverance and commitment, that change ultimately will come. And so let me be clear, let me be clear, I ain’t mad atcha, all right?”

It is entirely possible that insufficient evidence exists to charge Head with incitement. The state would have to prove that Head intended to ignite violence with his comments, and even a casual viewing of the video of his remarks does not leave the viewer with the impression that it was his premeditated intent to start a riot. Given the Justice Department’s concerns, however, it seems unlikely that Head will be a target of any federal investigation and local authorities will be informed that their actions in this inquiry could spark further unrest. And nobody wants that…

investigating Head for potentially inciting violence has to be a relatively low priority for law enforcement.

And those arsonists who lit the matches? Low priority.

The looters with the rocks that broke the windows? Low priority.

I mean, who are we to say those buildings were not ready to ignite spontaneously? Or those windows may have been ready to break at any moment- its more important to have a conversation about why white people should be blamed.

WH is using Ferguson as its Reichstag Fire, demonizing police to distract from its political woes and building the foundation for federalizing local police.

Here it comes.

Dem Rep. Elijah Cummings Asks Obama To Appoint A Police Czar To “Prevent More Fergusons”… Weasel Zippers:

WASHINGTON – Rep. Elijah Cummings, along with other members of the Congressional Black Caucus, sent a letter Monday to President Barack Obama, urging the administration to pursue changes to local law enforcement structure to “prevent more Fergusons,” including a federal czar to oversee local law enforcement.

“The administration must quickly establish a national commission to review existing police policies and practices,” the letter reads. “And identify the best policies and practices that can prevent more Fergusons and vastly improve policing in communities across the nation.”

In addition to the commission, the letter calls for the appointment of a federal czar within the Justice Department to monitor and oversee local police departments that receive federal funding.

Besides Cummings, a Maryland Democrat, Democratic Reps. Marcia Fudge of Ohio, Steven Horsford of Nevada, John Lewis of Georgia, Gwen Moore of Wisconsin and Barbara Lee of Texas signed the letter, as well as AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons and actress Cynthia Nixon.

How about just shooting looters, instead? That is what’s supposed to happen to looters.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair on December 2, 2014 at 5:24 PM

I find it interesting that Michael Brown Jr.’s biological father, Michael Brown Sr., was calling for calm after the grand-jury decision, while his stepfather (who presumably married Brown’s mother after she left Michael Brown Sr.) is inciting riots over the death of another man’s son. Some people have described Michael Brown Jr. as a “gentle giant”, while he is known to have roughed up a store owner he robbed, and tried to take a policeman’s gun.

If his real father was calm, but his stepfather is a hothead, could his mother’s remarriage to a hothead have incited young Michael Brown to violence?

Steve Z on December 2, 2014 at 5:25 PM

Let me be clear: Tea party folks who passionately objected to ACA at town hall meetings and rallies without violence or looting = scary fringe and threat to America according to Holder and Obama.

Ferguson ‘protesters’ who loot and burn and kill with hammers… just expressing themselves and should not be condemned.

“I think he was expressing a sentiment that a lot of folks in that crowd felt,” St. Louis Alderman Antonio French told Jake Tapper.

I don’t fvcking care. Unlike the following incidents, only Head managed to incite a bloody riot…

1) On 11 August 2014, a black police officer shot and killed an unarmed, 20 year-old white man by the name of Dillon Young as he was leaving a 7-11 in Salt Lake City.

He was cleared.

No grand jury.

No charges.

No concern shown by Obama, Holder, Sharpton, or the Congressional Black Caucus.

No media coverage.

No riots.

2) On 6 October 2012, black officer, Trevis Austin, shot and killed an 18 year-old, unarmed, white man, Gilbert Collar, who – like Michael Brown – was under the influence.

Grand jury refused to indict.

No concern shown by Obama, Holder, Sharpton, or the Congressional Black Caucus.

No media coverage.

No riots.

3) On 12 April 2011, an unarmed, decorated Iraqi war veteran, James Whitehead, was fatally shot by a black officer (with known anger management problems), Robert Arnold, who was off-duty, out of uniform, and not carrying a badge. Witnesses claimed that Arnold killed Whitehead after the latter made a racially derogatory term. According to the witnesses, Arnold continued to taunt Whitehead AFTER he had been shot. Arnold’s fellow police officers believed that he should have been charged with murder. Arnold enlisted race-baiting lawyer by the name of Cade Bernsen (the white Al Sharpton) to sue the city claiming he was fired because he was black and not because he shot an unarmed white man.

No grand jury.

No charges.

No concern shown by Obama, Holder, Sharpton, or the Congressional Black Caucus.

No media coverage.

No riots.

4) On 23 September 2014, a black police officer shot and killed a 14-year old black teen, who was ‘armed’ with a BB-gun and an outstanding athlete and beloved by members of all races at his school, by the name of Cameron Tillman. Tillman, who had been playing with his friends at an abandoned house, was killed when he opened the door – believing it was his friends – and was fatally shot by a 7-year veteran of the patrol division, a field training officer and a member of the Terrebonne Parish (LA) Sheriff’s Office SWAT team. The officer was an African-American.

No grand jury.

No charges.

No concern shown by Obama, Holder, Sharpton, or the Congressional Black Caucus.

No media coverage.

No riots.

5) Yesterday, Dehmi Moore attacked and repeatedly stabbed a ‘white female’ during a class at San Joaquin Delta College because she was a ‘white female’.

A brutal attack after a math class at the San Joaquin Delta College is being classified as a hate crime.

Police say 23-year-old Dehmi Moore repeatedly stabbed a classmate in the face with a pen.

“She had two puncture marks – one on her eyelid and the other other on the top of her head and she was bleeding rather significantly,” Delta College Police Officer Jim Bock said.

Campus police were able to catch up with Moore a few buildings over. Moore was arrested on an assault with a deadly weapon charge but, after talking with her, another charge was added – hate crime.

“When we asked why she attacked the girl, it wasn’t just because of the comments made in the classroom, she expressed it was because she was a white female,” Bock said.

No concern shown by Obama, Holder, Sharpton, or the Congressional Black Caucus.

No media coverage.

No riots.

6) On 1 February 2014, a white policeman by the name of Kevin Quick, who was a reserve Virginia officer, was abducted, kidnapped, tortured, and murdered by FOUR African-American members of the gang, 99 Goon Syndikat, who were charged with first-degree murder, and TWO other black, members of the same gang, who were charged with second-degree murder.

No concern shown by Obama, Holder, Sharpton, or the Congressional Black Caucus. In fact, Attorney General Eric Holder took the death penalty off the table even for these thugs, who had previously served time for violent offences.

No media coverage.

No riots.

See, in this case, it wasn’t an Islamic terrorist, who was ‘tortured’…just a white cop, who was carjacked, tortured, and murdered by a bunch of fvcking thugs.

7) And, don’t even get me started about what happened to poor Zemir Begic at the hands of FOUR ANIMALS.

And, I can find many more…

Our garment of laws may be frayed to the point of uselessness, but it’s going to take a long time for most of us to realize it. It’s been said many times before, but the Police Department’s job isn’t to protect your life, it’s to apprehend your murderer. In the meantime, those of us who do understand are going to have to look to our own devices for the safety we used to rely on from the society we once lived in. And a great many more nasty little battles are going to have to be fought in front yards and on street corners, and it’s going to take a lot more courage than we’re accustomed to showing.

Remember when people made fun of Giuliani’s edicts to crackdowns on relatively minor offenses such as graffiti, turnstile jumping, cannabis possession, and aggressive panhandling by “squeegee men”, on the theory that this would send a message that order would be maintained? And remember when it worked?

Yeah, the MSM doesn’t “remember” the edicts and their success either.

When do we crack down on people inciting to riot? Just when the inciters are “Tea Partiers”?

Most Americans are becoming more fearful day after day when they realize that “their” police no longer have to protect them if the police agree with the rioters and inciters.

So, if not now, when?

Evil is unpredictable and thus unpreventable; buy a gun.

Just make sure he and mom pay the proper taxes on all of the Michael Brown memorabilia that they sell.

Indicting this rabble rouser would only rouse more rabble.

Let those slugs slink away and buy Gentle Giant brand T-shirts and mugs.

I’d love to hit their molotov cocktails in the air over their heads with a shotgun blast – ready, pull….

dentarthurdent on December 2, 2014 at 5:30 PM

That takes a special type of skeeter gun and only the cops and military should be allowed to have them.

HumpBot Salvation on December 2, 2014 at 5:46 PM

There’s no way they are going to acquit the white cop and indict the black step-father, no matter how justified both actions may be.

…Monday night in the wake of a grand jury decision not to indict Officer Darren Wilson for the shooting death of that unarmed teenager over the summer.

-Noah Rothman

https://hotair.com/archives/2014/11/25/contrary-to-brown-family-statement-stepfather-urged-protesters-to-burn-this-b-down/

Please quit referring to Brown that way. That is loaded language meant to push a false narrative suggesting that unarmed (especially black) kids walking down the street are at risk of being mowed down by racist white cops. The only thing missing in your description is “black.”

The criminal thug Brown was an ADULT at the time of his death when he charged and assaulted a police officer.

bluegill on December 2, 2014 at 5:51 PM

He’s black. What do you expect? You can’t measure blacks with your typical standards. Certainly not with the law, which is inherently racist towards blacks, and designed to benefit the white power structure. Give it a pass, like how Holder has given any and all black on white violence or intimidation a similar pass. If you disagree, you just don’t understand the black experience.

I am sick of people protesting the lack of coverage about important stories being told (as you have done) to go start their own blogs. Damn it, this comment section is for feedback. This is a major blog, and it is quite right for us to appeal to major blogs (especially ones that purport to challenge the leftist media) and let them know what important stories they shouldn’t be ignoring.

bluegill on December 2, 2014 at 5:36 PM

A major conservative political blog. As horrible as the murder of Begic is, as of right now there is no proven political angle to it. Hot Air gives you the directions on how to submit story ideas. Consistently bitching about it in the comments section is not it.

LashRambo on December 2, 2014 at 5:52 PM

You know, I am really sick and tired of your half measures, Lash. Why don’t you just face the complete truth, and admit that the “law” is racist against everybody who wants to be a criminal. Can’t you just admit that if we didn’t have all these racist laws against criminal acts, then there would be no more criminals being discriminated against? Then with no more racist laws, or criminals, we could all coexist in peace and harmony in the land of utopia. Give peace a chance!
