38 percent: Obama ties his all-time low in Gallup’s daily tracker of job approval

posted at 4:41 pm on September 4, 2014 by Allahpundit

He’s had slightly lower disapproval numbers, hitting 56 percent earlier this year, but his approval’s never been below 38 percent in Gallup. He sunk that low twice in August 2011, during the dog days of the first debt-ceiling standoff, but never dipped below it.

Think about that. Despite the many lowlights of his second term, from the Healthcare.gov rollout to the NSA scandal to the IRS fiasco to this summer’s comprehensive foreign-policy mess, he’s never been lower than he is right now. Is tomorrow the day he breaks new ground?

gal

The silver lining for Democrats, if there is one, is that his approval’s not in freefall. He’s been stuck just a few points above today’s numbers for most of the summer and yet Democratic Senate incumbents remain competitive in all battleground states. The dark cloud that holds that silver lining is that this isn’t the poll lately showing O nosing south. Ten days ago, Reuters also had him at 38/54, identical to today’s Gallup figure. The new YouGov poll has him at 41/56. (Rasmussen, by contrast, has him at a robust 47/51.) If he settles in at, say, 38/55 for the rest of the midterm campaign, Democrats can wave bye-bye to Mark Pryor, Kay Hagan, Mary Landrieu, Mark Begich, and probably some purple-staters like Mark Udall too. See now why Debbie Wasserman-Schultz has taken to using domestic-violence metaphors to attack big-name Republicans? When the head of the party is lurching towards sub-40 percent approval, it’s most definitely kitchen-sink time.

Via Ace and the Free Beacon, here’s John Kerry rolling out a winning new message for the Democrats’ fall campaign, that the Bible requires Christians to save Muslim countries from global warming or something. Exit question: Does Obama’s sinking approval make an executive amnesty for illegals more or less likely? My gut reaction is to say “less likely,” of course; a man who’s this unpopular needs to be careful about bold moves with high backfire potential. The truth is, though, that O’s recent slide is probably due to some loss of support among Democrats; Republicans and independents might already be as sour on him as they can get. If that’s the case, then a mega-pander on amnesty could be just what the doctor ordered to rally his base. If nothing else, it’d give cable news networks a reason to stop running his “we don’t have a strategy yet” soundbite.

Obama’s Problem as ‘The Smartest Person in the Room’

One of the best articles on topic – h/t Del

This is my next favorite, against the media who brung this trash, twice.

It was eerie. It was as if there has been no Obama presidency. If I am right in my analysis, the complete absence of panels assessing Obama’s record is an indication that the academy now regards Obama as an indefensible embarrassment. This, in turn, may well be a sign that we are in for a wave election in November. What cannot be defended is apt to be jettisoned.

Doing Stupid S*** Daily

While the world waits for the Leader of the Free World to articulate something remotely resembling a coherent strategy regarding the Islamic State, self-satisfied White House flacks cleverly remind that the administration’s overarching foreign policy is “don’t do stupid s***.” (Kissinger wishes he were as deep.)

This wins the prize for galactic obtuseness. The flacks’ brilliant hero cancels missile defense for Eastern Europe, naively presents Russia with a “reset” button, touts his post-election “flexibility” to Medvedev, and then is flummoxed when the rapacious Putin sees a green light to reconstitute the former Soviet Union.

Obama utterly squanders an historic opportunity to change the calculus in the Middle East by supporting the nascent Green Revolution, engages in transparently futile negotiations with madmen intent on developing nuclear weapons, and now Iran is on the verge of becoming the most dangerous country in the world.

Our sophisticated president leads from behind in Libya, ignores the ensuing chaos — even when it results in the deaths of four Americans – and now that country has devolved into a terrorist safe haven with mountains of sophisticated weaponry (and possibly even eleven weaponized airliners) at the disposal of al-Qaeda affiliates.

The visionary commander-in-chief insouciantly declares the Iraq War over and the country stable, fails to negotiate a status-of-forces agreement, and pulls out all U.S. troops from the theater. As predicted by less enlightened souls, the country implodes, thousands are killed, the region destabilizes, and America’s enemies are on the march.

In Afghanistan, he telegraphs the withdrawal date to the enemy and, well, see above . . .

He draws a red line in Syria, erases it, and is caught off-guard when bad actors from the Islamic State to Putin see that as an invitation to adventurism. Yet, as conflicts erupt in every corner of the planet, he slashes the military to levels not seen in more than 80 years.

Intelligence experts, including some of the administration’s own national-security team, say foreign threats to the homeland have never been greater.

Nowhere in the world are American interests better off than they were at the outset of this administration. Nowhere are we more respected. Nowhere are we more feared.

Don’t do stupid s*** indeed. This administration’s foreign policy — to the extent one can be discerned — is better described by another blunt phrase: Stuck on stupid.

Such a rating is a symptom of an education / information problem.

When 38% approve of a ‘leader’ who is a nincompoop even among the other nincompoops who pass as ‘leaders’ in the west these days, that country has a serious internal problem.

Similarly in the UK, in the 2010 election after a dozen or so years of Labour party treason, incompetence and ruination, about one third of the votes cast were for the Labour party — the party that had deliberately set-out to destroy British society.

The problem isn’t foremost that these countries have got a stupid president, prime-minister or political party; it is that they have given electoral power to stupid and ignorant people, and since there are invariably more stupid and ignorant people than there are wise and informed ones, Western democracy is biased in favour of foolishness.

Educate those who are willing to be educated, and try to distract the others so that they don’t vote at all. This, after all, is what the ‘left’ side of politics has been doing with great success for several decades.

Bmore on September 4, 2014 at 5:29 PM

Obama could drop a nuclear bomb on New Orleans and still get a majority of the black vote.

dforston on September 4, 2014 at 5:30 PM

I just hope we don’t get blown up a week from today. Even if we did, 38% would blame Bush.

wolly4321 on September 4, 2014 at 5:30 PM

John Kerry rolling out a winning new message for the Democrats’ fall campaign, that the Bible requires Christians to save Muslim countries from global warming or something.

Flabbergasted. I don’t get how this helps them whatsoever politically?

Mind-blowing that those words would pass his lips.

aquaviva on September 4, 2014 at 5:23 PM

Wait till we hear that the US Government says its the behavior of terrorists, not the terrorists, that we don’t like.

BobMbx on September 4, 2014 at 5:31 PM

You know, if your own arguments weren’t so easily demolished you might not have to resort to such things.

Just a suggestion.

Tlaloc on September 4, 2014 at 5:24 PM

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Best belly laugh I’ve had all day. Best grin all day.

Thanks.

Schadenfreude on September 4, 2014 at 5:32 PM

You apparently don’t remember bush’s “crusade” in Iraq.

Tlaloc on September 4, 2014 at 5:13 PM

Hmmm. “Crusade” you say.

Just send me the links in which Bush in a public policy speech used Scripture as justification for the Iraq war, Not just reference to a bible passage but as justification, and I’ll stand corrected.

Thanks

WisRich on September 4, 2014 at 5:32 PM

(Rasmussen, by contrast, has him at a robust 47/51.)

No one from the Rasmussen organization was available to comment …

… because they are ALL on their knees with their mouth full.

PolAgnostic on September 4, 2014 at 5:33 PM

What will it take for these morons to see? It will be another 9/11…….

crosshugger on September 4, 2014 at 4:47 PM

Wanna bet? Read the NY Times comments sometime. Every foreign policy failure is Bush’s fault.

Judge_Dredd on September 4, 2014 at 5:34 PM

Don’t forget the Jews.

Schadenfreude on September 4, 2014 at 5:35 PM

If a conservative had made this speech, it would be interpreted as blaming global warming on muslims, and therefore, requiring their removal from the species to save the planet.

Hey…..that might work on the LIVs.

BobMbx on September 4, 2014 at 5:35 PM

I’d love to see how the left would react to a Republican using Scripture as justification for a major policy position.

WisRich on September 4, 2014 at 4:51 PM

You apparently don’t remember bush’s “crusade” in Iraq.

Tlaloc on September 4, 2014 at 5:13 PM

‘The Crusades’ didn’t even begin until more than a millennium after Christ died.

Let me guess, you believe that they were totally unprovoked ‘cuz, like, um, ya know, Muslims didn’t go on a slaughterous rampage of conquest or something. /

Resist We Much on September 4, 2014 at 5:36 PM

Indeed, just more proof that Obama has been centrist, evn center right in governing and hardly the flaming liberal you guys pretend. Every major policy of Bush’s he continued. When the opportunity for health reform came up he pushed the GOP plan from the 90s.

Yet you still call him a liberal (not to mention the incredibly racist photoshops your party sends out in official communications).

Tlaloc on September 4, 2014 at 5:19 PM

Which GOP plan?

Chuck Schick on September 4, 2014 at 5:38 PM

Tlaloc

Just for you.

Bmore on September 4, 2014 at 5:38 PM

Lolz! Sure thing. That’s definitely me. Heart filled with hate. Say….why do you run your mouth so much about things you know nothing about? Perception/Reality

Bmore on September 4, 2014 at 5:28 PM

FAir enough let’s just say you write online with the persona of an incredibly hateful person. if you say you do that artificially who am I to say otherwise? Of course it does raise the question of why you would choose to do so…

Tlaloc on September 4, 2014 at 5:39 PM

Oh, look. Another unhinged, emotionally wanting, troll showed up to troll for free.

Any rational person would have to be compensated in some way to do what this troll does this frequently. There’s no other logical explanation.
