Another eyewitness: Woman comes forward with footage taken immediately after the Michael Brown shooting

posted at 6:41 pm on August 18, 2014 by Allahpundit

Via Mediaite, maybe there’s more out there but this is just the second clip I’ve seen of the crime scene and the first that (allegedly) includes footage of Darren Wilson, the cop who fired the shots that killed Brown. That’s him on the right in the clip below according to the eyewitness, Piaget Crenshaw.

Crenshaw’s account of what happened starts at around 3:00. She’s right in line with the other three eyewitnesses on Brown’s general movements: He ran from Wilson initially, Wilson fired at him, then Brown turned back to face him. Crenshaw thinks the shots fired at Brown while he was running away either missed him entirely or grazed him, which corroborates the autopsy report showing no entry wounds from the back. The truly interesting part here is what she says she saw when Wilson first pulled up alongside Brown and Dorian Johnson. Johnson has claimed that Wilson grabbed Brown from inside the vehicle — specifically, he says, he grabbed Brown’s neck, which would seem hard to do to a man who’s 6’4″ from a sitting position. Crenshaw says she too saw Wilson grab Brown, although she doesn’t say where specifically. Wilson then seemed to get “upset,” says Crenshaw, Brown took off, and Wilson took off after him.

Turns out this isn’t the first interview Crenshaw gave about the shooting, though. The first one happened right after Brown was killed; it’s the second clip below. She seems vaguer in the earlier video about what happened in the first few moments between Brown and Wilson. At around 0:30, she says they had some kind of “interaction” but says she didn’t see any sort of chokehold, as another witness had claimed, because she was getting ready for work. On the other hand, she’s quite clear that she saw Brown with his hands up while he was facing Wilson, after the bullets started flying. She thinks Brown raised his hands before the final two shots, which would mean per the autopsy report that he’d already been hit four times by then. Hmmm.

So basically, the only things that Wilson defenders have left is to claim “well you just can’t believe black people.” But conservatism isn’t a racist political and cultural movement? LOL. OK….

So, basically, the only thing the Left has is three “witnesses” operating out of self-interest, whose accounts are contradicted by forensic evidence and the recorded aggressive behavior of the deceased in a vulgar, inhumane, profane,.and shameless quest to turn this incident into a political opportunity.

That you revel in the destruction of a community that you so obviously falsely claim to care about in this base effort to score political points is all that is needed to d*** you to Hell.

M240H on August 19, 2014 at 7:04 AM

libfreeordie – Actually they have identified 6 people who account for what the officer said. They just aren’t out there trying to garner 15 minutes of fame.

I’m not happy that anybody has to die. For Blacks their situation is worse now under this administration since before the 1960′s. They are the only ones who can fix it, but violence won’t bring about that change.

Which “black people” do you believe? The 12 people who the Post Dispatch now say corroborate the cop’s story? Or this chick who seems to be basking in the glory of the spotlight?

Do you not even realize that you are the one lumping a whole race of people to what people are saying here about individuals? And you’re also lumping political and cultural viewpoints to that of races. You simply cannot highlight any individual claim or person. It’s all group to you.

That is precisely the formula necessary for a racist viewpoint. You cannot escape it.

iceman1960 on August 19, 2014 at 8:48 AM

Following up to my own comment just a few comments up. Did some looking myself. So far as I can tell there is no story from the post dispatch story. Just a single tweet by a reporter stating that *police claim* a dozen eyewitnesses support the officer’s account — which they have not released.

http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2014/08/boom-reporter-a-dozen-witnesses-confirm-ferguson-cops-version-of-brown-shooting/

So one tweet which is not an eyewitness report but is hearsay of something the police claim overrides multiple eyewitnesses and video footage?

Certainly the residents of Ferguson don’t think so. They *believe* those eyewitnesses. Those witnesses are from their own community.

And while it doesn’t justify rioting, I can well see why they would be worried that they are not going to receive justice. I think it fair to say that the people who are commenters on hot air are also potential jury pool, reflecting what your typical juror would think and believe. And for many here, it seems that — not an eyewitness report, nor an official police account , nor a news story of a police account, but a TWEET — not even 255 characters — a TWEET of something that ‘police sources say’ is enough to override actual eyewitnesses reporting what they saw on camera.

At any rate, if the police want calm, one thing they ought to do is start getting some of those eyewitnesses they say they have out in the community getting their story out. I know of no better answer to rumor and slander than the truth.

After all, there’s no way they should hand over an officer to a lynch mob just because the mob has heard a lot of rumor. But the people of Ferguson need more than tear gas to disperse. They need to see justice done.

What this means is that the officer is being tried not in a court of law, but in the court of public opinion. A real court of law takes a long time to make a deliberate decision. But the mob has already tried and convicted him.

Where are his defenders? There are plenty of angry people speaking on camera and putting up photographs et al. Is the best the police can put into the information stream a call in by a friend of the officer, a robbery which the officer did not know about at the time of the stop, and a tweet? Is this how you reassure a community that their concerns are being addressed?

We all know how this is going to play out. I’d say there’s probably an 80% chance that the officer really was justified in his use of force, and a 99.995% chance that the police would determine that in any event. Which means the people of Ferguson and those civil rights leaders aren’t going to get what they want, which is the officer’s scalp.

They’re going to need to be made to see that this is the justice they asked for: An impartial, independent inquiry into the facts which results in a just verdict. Not simply throwing an innocent man to a mob.

Getting that message out is going to take information as well as rubber bullets and tear gas. And so far, Ferguson has failed to do this. So, for that matter, has the state of Missouri and the Fed. So , too, has President Obama, who if anyone should be able to appeal to calm and promise people that there would be justice, *he* could.

Oh please. You’ve NEVER been interested in the facts of this case.

From day one – when the “facts” were changing every 5 minutes – you were ranting and raving about what really happened and what it meant for society. You don’t care about the facts. You have The Narrative and that’s all you care about.

And most here aren’t “Wilson defenders” but are people who would like to know all the facts that can be ascertained before passing judgement.

He ran from Wilson initially, Wilson fired at him, then Brown turned back to face him.

He actually ran at Officer Wilson. In this phone video from someone else, which was previously posted by someone on another thread, you hear an eyewitness account of the event. (6:10)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SKKWBNSqtS0

That, along with other eyewitness accounts that say the officers version is correct, still won’t satisfy the rioters.

Patriot Vet on August 19, 2014 at 11:02 AM

So this girl supposedly was an “eye-witness” but only has a “video” of the dead body? Where’s the video of what she claims actually went down? Oh wait, maybe that wouldn’t back up her story? Forensics sure didn’t. Ferguson hasn’t had a murder in a year at least, last recorded data in 2012 showed 2 murders in this city.

In 2012 in the USA, there were 12 million arrests. There were 400 police shootings, a minuscule amount considering what the police have to deal with day in and day out. Are there bad cops? I’m sure there are. Are there a lot of scummy/violent criminals/druggies/sex perverts? I’m sure we all know a few ourselves ; )

When the code in the black community, whenever there’s a gang shooting, (I live in Chicago, I KNOW) is that the people in the “hood” don’t ever KNOW CHITE; didn’t see a thing, are afraid or just don’t care to cooperate with police to nab the killers, makes their hypocrisy in matters like this is epic and so disingenuous!

After trillions of dollars spent in means tested welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream in the last 50 years, the black community is WORSE off today than 50 years ago! They shouldn’t trade in the father’s in their families with government handouts! They should look in the mirror and blame the real people responsible for their “plight” and poverty in 2014 instead of blaming everyone else and their brother!

pwb on August 19, 2014 at 11:12 AM

She offers up nothing new to the story here besides a video shot of Brown laying there and the cops standing by discussing the situation.

In her CNN interview, she skips a ton of details. Doesn’t say if he turned around and started towards Wilson or what. From the audio of the neighbor on the other video, Brown didn’t turn around and start towards Wilson until he pulled his gun and yelled “freeze” which she seems to have conveniently omitted. She’s not more trustworthy than Brown’s midget sidekick in my opinion/

smith288 on August 19, 2014 at 11:31 AM

Autopsy drawing indicates that the first 4 shots were to the right arm, which would be in line with the officer’s story about the guy running towards him (and the copy trying NOT to kill him). If you’re running, you’re somewhat pumping your arms, so the location of the wounds is perfectly understandable to me.

The cops friend said the last shot was in the forehead, as a last resort, and when the suspect was a couple of feet from the cop and wouldn’t stop. It appears to me that the cop was NOT trying to kill the guy until the last possible moment that he could avoid it, either kill or be killed.

If the cop was standing over the guy, execution style, would he really miss those first 4 shots and have none of them enter from the back? cmon.

DebraChicago on August 19, 2014 at 11:32 AM

What should we believe?

Scenario #1
A six year veteran policeman decided to randomly shoot a black guy six times and kill him.

Scenario #2
A punk who just robbed a store, and obviously had a combative attitude, decided that it would be a good idea to attack a policeman and lost his life because of a really bad decision.

Someone asked from last night on Why Obama speaks out on this case and yet he has not said one word about Christians and other minorities in the ME getting persecuted and murdered. He doesn’t give a hoot about that Marine in Mexico either. How long does that Marine have to stay in jail for making a couple of mistakes like having guns on him and crossing the border accidentally. This president apparently only cares about a couple of things which are his “people” and his golf game.

You left out that the PD in Ferguson has a long history of abuse and coverup, that the punk was unarmed, and that the cop didn’t know anything about the robbery. So in your world, it is okay for the cops to execute unarmed people, and you can justify it by lying about the facts.

6’4″ 290 lbs is not unarmed. Credible sources indicate the cops eye socket was fractured so there’s more than a reasonable fear for life.

The cop received the robbery report on the radio prior to the confrontation according to the police report.

So you’re saying that the cop decided to execute a black guy for sport? In your world the cop is guilty regardless of the facts which you don’t know. btw, I threw out scenarios. One of them is probably true.
