Video: Sarah Palin launches her own online TV channel

posted at 11:21 am on July 28, 2014 by Allahpundit

I thought it was a smart business idea back in March when I first heard of it and I think it’s a smart business idea now that I’ve seen the results. It reminds me a bit, in fact, of what the boss emeritus was aiming for with our daily “Vent” segments back when Hot Air first launched, although Palin’s project promises lots more video content than we were capable of. (I also wonder if, like HA, her channel will feature more written content over time.) Tapp, the company behind it, sees its goal as “connecting super-fans to the personalities they can’t get enough of,” and no pol has as many “super-fans” as Palin. That’s why I don’t understand the grumbling about the subscription fee. It’s slightly more expensive than Netflix — $9.95 per month or $99.95 per year, same as TheBlaze — but why wouldn’t it be? Until recently, Netflix was the ultimate low-motivation purchase. You signed up not because there was anything in particular you wanted to watch but because the size of their library meant that you could find something of interest when you got bored. (The success of “House of Cards” and “Orange Is the New Black” may be changing that.) Palin’s channel and TheBlaze are high-motivation purchases: They’re pitched not at the general public but at core fans of two political personalities with “an intense following.” Why wouldn’t people like that pay more than the average Joe pays for Netflix? Some Palin and Beck fans would hand over quite a bit more than 10 bucks a month, I’m sure.

Where does Tapp go after this, though? Who else on the public landscape would be a good fit for this sort of personalized TV channel? I think athletes are the best fit: They’ve got the time to do it in the off-season (and maybe sporadically during the season) and they’ve got intense fan bases who’d be willing to pay for a look behind the scenes. Why should LeBron or Richard Sherman be content with pre-game interviews or Twitter when they could do a webcam vid speaking directly to their fans once or twice a week, post it to their personal site, and charge five bucks a month to watch it? In the off-season, they could hire a small crew and do slightly more professional features every couple of weeks. They’d make millions. Or rather, millions more than they do now. The only question is how much aggravation they’re willing to deal with during their down time in churning out clips.

Here’s her intro video. The one below, in which she talks about impeachment, can only be viewed at the site. Click the image to watch.

Um, I didn’t say they are “exactly the same.” I said they are both millionaires by virtue of the fame and notoriety they achieved as politicians.

Thanks for your straw man argument.

Sarah Palin’s latest endorsement is for Joe Carr, who is challenging the Common Core & climate change pushing amnesty shill Lamar Alexander of Tennessee (primary Aug 7th): http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2014/07/23/Sarah-Palin-Endorses-Joe-Carr-for-Senate-Against-Lamar-Alexander

Actually, the whiners on the Establishment Right are complaining about Palin bypassing the gatekeeper media, not because there is a monthly charge attached to it.

Remember kids, the same Beltway GOP Apologists who are criticizing Palin today would gladly send $500.00 to Jeb Bush tomorrow to further drive the Reagan Coalition into the History Books, but they moan about $9.99 a month that Palin is charging.

Remember, Establishment trolls only approve if the Bankster gets your money.

Ignore their criticisms of Palin. She knows what she’s doing. The Establishment demonstrated that they did not when they turned to Mitt Romney back in 2012.

The greatest side benefit of a SP Channel; the joy of watching liberals explode in stompy-feeted outrage.

whatcat on July 28, 2014 at 5:16 PM

because previously it was possible to access sarah videos and articles for free and now there is a subscription fee… just because i’m a strong sarah palin supporter does not mean i’m going to pay the fee. i don’t have much money. idk how many other sarah supporters are like me… i’m sure several will pay the fee but there are probably others who are like me and don’t like signing up for things for which we have to pay a recurring fee.

i do have subscriptions for two other websites! but that’s it, and one of those sites, i don’t even plan to pay for for very long- only until my show finishes its season.

i just don’t like paid subscriptions for things. i really do not like it. (example: adobe creative cloud- you have to pay continuously to use the creative suite programs. a lot of people complained about that)

But would you pay to watch a guy with a paper bag over his head?

I would like Gov. Palin to start speaking with fewer generalities and get down to some specifics; for example, about elements of the lawlessness in this administration, about details of quid pro quo cronyism, or about figures demonstrating the loss of jobs and the decline of income.

I can overlook the folksiness of her expressions maybe (“screwed”?), but working with a speech coach would help. Hillary has made attempts to modulate her voice, but the screech comes through when she is cornered.

None that I’ve heard. Both sides do talk about spending more money.

Also, where is McConnell & the rest of the Senate Rinos? And Boehner/Cantor/McCarthy and the rest of the House members? Not a word about Hamas/Israel or the invasion of our Country by the illegal aliens. They surely are very quiet now. Guess they are all behind closed doors planning to betray us again.

Glad Jeff Sessions put them on notice about Obama wanting to nullify our immigration laws by an E.O. We’ll see whether these R’s vote with Obama & Reid or support a bill to stop him.

To Bluegill and Unaffiliated4P:

Sarah Palin , You have the power to stop Hillary Clinton by Running for President , Please Run or America as we know it is gone . Sarah Palin, I subscribed to the Sarah Palin Channel , you owe it to this country and yourself to Run for President in 2016.Fulfill your full potential Run Sarah Run . Sarah Palin for President 2016

That is nonsense . Sarah Palin is running for President in 2016 , she turned down Mark Burnett ‘s offer for a Talk Show . Sarah Palin needs The Sarah Palin Channel to breakthrough the filter and limits set by the GOP Establishment run FoxNews . The GOP establishment doesn’t let Sarah Palin shine at FoxNews and this is her way of speaking directly to the people . I believe she’s running in 2016 . Sarah Palin is doing things on her terms and not Roger Ailes’ terms, this makes her a Real Independent . Palin Runs in 2016 , the ONLY question is GOP or Independent party .
Unaffiliated4P on July 28, 2014 at 3:04 PM

The Sarah Palin Channel is far better than The View or a daytime talk show, here is a question , why is Mike Huckabee included in 2016 polls and Palin is not. Palin told CNN she’s open to a 2016 run . Mike Huckabee . Sarah Palin is less removed from elected office than Huckabee , Jeb Bush , or Rick Santorum . Sarah Palin has to drive a stake through Historic Hillary Clinton crap just by running in 2016 and being there . Gender is all the Hillary Clinton 2016 has , Palin runs in 2016 , she destroys the Hillary Clinton gender card.
Unaffiliated4P on July 28, 2014 at 4:08 PM

This is just this PM on this thread… have seen similar on other threads at other times. If A$$ is too strong, although I’m not sure with some of your history you are in any position to complain about me, then I apologize to Unaffiliated4P. I have been critical of Palin in the past, but lately I’ve grown more fond of her and have greatly appreciated her efforts to fight illegal alien amnesty.

If you would have told me a year or two ago that this site had a bias against Palin and conservatives, I might have laughed it off. Now I see how troubling and real the bias at HotAir is. Between pro-amnesty liberal Noah Rothman’s posts and Patick Ishmael’s apparent outright refusal to include Palin’s name in the recent HotAir reader poll, I think the ongoing leftward shift of this site cannot be denied.

This site sure isn’t the same place it was during the days if Malkin’s “Vent” video series.

bluegill on July 28, 2014 at 7:58 PM

What are people supposed to pay for exactly? Her insights? Granted, I simply think she’s stupid but I’m probably a minority here. I hope there aren’t. I also think there aren’t.

Might this be a way to gauge hardcore support for a 2016 run for President. Anyone willing to pay $10 a month for her website is likely to be willing to work the phones, organize registration drives, GOTV, etc of she announces she is running.

If she gets 200,000 to signup, is that an indicator she should run?

Why You Should Pay Attention to Sarah Palin’s New Online TV Channel

Palin’s decision to launch her own online TV channel goes beyond just building her personal brand. It’s indicative of both the cultural phenomenon blurring politics with celebrity and ways digital technology has changed the landscape of political branding. While Hillary Clinton may be tearing up the speakers circuit, her message only lives in auditoriums and the pages of the New York Times. A digital channel, like Palin now has, lives in the living rooms and on the smartphones of her base, energizing them and feeding them messaging constantly…. Read more at…

Schadenfreude on July 28, 2014 at 11:31 AM

You were correct. This goes back to the gov shutdown, when they kicked the old vets in the arse at the memorial, while they kissed the arses of the illegal aliens in a rally of illegal aliens on the mall, complete with police protection of the illegals. The MSM dutifully covered it, but flopped. The MSM was too stupid to pull it off, but stooges are like that.

IMHO the elites of both parties wish they could hold the old vets under water until the bubbles stopped, which is why the VA hospitals are still withholding IV’s and cancer operations while the hearings drag on and on. Both parties hate the old school vets, the ones who want to defend the nation. Troublemakers

The Boehner cartel is praying Obama aces it. 3 million green carders, with no obmamcare strings attached. Even Walmart will be able to fire their 20 hour a week citizen cashiers, and put in 40 hour green carders, who will get the best care in the world at our ERs free. Maybe they can finally kill off the tea party. Notice MSM is reporting that Congress is being besieged with calls from the tea party – as if no one else is calling. They are staging tea party, ex soldiers, etc as the enemy, as surely as Hitler staged the Jews

Funny but not funny, they are also staging the Jews (Israelites) as bad guys. Liberal US Jews setting up Israelites for being Jews. Sick

Palin’s product is very Oprah.

Together, let’s live life vibrantly, purposefully, and boldly!

She isn’t relevant anymore. Some of her cult is left, and some of the left/media is still obsessed with hating her. She doesn’t really do anything, she just makes some people look silly.

Look at this thread. If this thread had happened in 2012, it would have had 2012 comments in the first hour.

Moesart on July 29, 2014 at 12:41 AM

Total conservative here. Cannot stand her. I see her and every time I think deer in the headlights. I swear to god she has conservative talking points in sharpie in the palm of her hand. More power to her but i really don’t think she helps our cause. Sorry. Hope i can say that and still be a conservative. (damn straight i can.)
Stay on your channel Sarah and I will love not watching it.
RutRoh on July 28, 2014 at 10:42 PM

Guess what? She is writing those conservative talking points all by herself and those talking points become the nation’s conservative talking points. Sarah Palin IS conservatism in 2014.

fight like a girl on July 29, 2014 at 12:45 AM

She’ll probably quit halfway through. But seriously, I hope this bombs. Please go away.

beverlyfreaks on July 28, 2014 at 11:33 AM

Why don’t YOU go away?

zoyclem on July 29, 2014 at 7:31 AM

I don’t trust Palin. I don’t hate her, I just don’t trust her or the decisions she makes. To me she is not a valuable source of info, inspiration, or anything else.

Yeah, I wont be tuning in to her channel.

Diluculo on July 28, 2014 at 7:50 PM

What exactly has she done to make you distrust her? What decisions do you object to? Who inspires you?

She’ll probably quit halfway through. But seriously, I hope this bombs. Please go away.

beverlyfreaks on July 28, 2014 at 11:33 AM

What an unnecessary nasty person you appear to be.

I doubt that I would sign up for her channel but 24/7 anyone is not something I’m interested in. While I like Palin I personally never expected her to run for national office again. Right or wrong the media, the Left & some on the Right have too thoroughly trashed her and made her a caricature. People seem to forget that she was the Governor of a state and well respected there.

A lot of voters – including the ones on the Right are hypocrites. They whine about how we need to drain the swamp, throw the bums out. But when people who are not career politicians run people get all huffy because they aren’t experienced – look at what a great job our experienced officials have done!

People post about how “stupid” she is – I’m curious as to what elected offices all of you have held. How many national stages have you presented your opinions on? Disagree with her all you want on policy issues but take your “she’s a dumb quitter” meme and shove it.

Wow, Ted the Average, you are either paid to troll Palin threads or you have a mental illness. Your obsessive hatred of Palin is psychotic.

I think Ted’s contempt for Sarah seems about average (for a Palin-hater), to me.

listens2glenn on July 28, 2014 at 10:04 PM

And I think Ted’s IQ is probably average for a Democrat too–perhaps in the mid-40′s.

katiejane on July 29, 2014 at 9:11 AM

Why would anyone even nominally conservative complain about a conservative starting a business?

Akzed on July 29, 2014 at 10:17 AM

All of this dissing of Palin is because they don’t like her message. Same reason all of the RINOS/Alphabet talking heads/Administration and on and on trashed her. Don’t like her messages? Trash the Messenger. Same old same old and the commenters here pretending to be Conservative are full of b.s. We’ve seen all of these same comments before, the only difference is the players’ screen names.

These pretenders should have taken a clue from the Hillary supporters back in 2008; they loved Sarah Palin. They voted for McCain/Palin in the millions, not because they liked McCain, but because of Palin. They depised Obama and put their walk with their talk by voting Republican, many the very first time in their lives.

So all you “Conservative” pretenders that are dissing Palin, you know what you can do with your comments.

I don’t “diss” Palin so much as I “diss” her small but loud group of Internet hobgoblins.

With all due respect, you people are mindless zealots; I get the feeling she could become a Democrat and you people would still defend her.

Palin as Veep was a big reason I voted for McCain in 2008 where previously I was considering not voting.

However, her behavior since that election demonstrates she isn’t at all interested in anything beyond milking her persona for every red cent. If she really wanted to change things, she would have completed her term as governor and ran for President in 2012. She also could have challenged Begich this year for a critical Senate seat.

A zealot is in the mind of the beholder:-) Oh, I’m not one of the “you people”, nor am I mindless. You need to use a much smaller brush, my friend:-)

bluefox on July 29, 2014 at 2:52 PM

What are people supposed to pay for exactly? Her insights? Granted, I simply think she’s stupid but I’m probably a minority here. Are there people though who honestly have read everything available for free on conservative sites and think “Yeah, but I would still pay good money to hear what Palin has to say”? I hope there aren’t. I also think there aren’t.

PBH on July 28, 2014 at 7:58 PM

I looked at the website. Most of the content on the first page consists of what you can already find on the web for free.

There are videos of her speeches, which are on YouTube. There are her Facebook posts. There are a couple of 3 minutes video, one of her meeting Billy Graham and another of her meeting the Duck Dynasty people. Then, of course, is the link to Bristol Palin’s blog.

Are there that many fans willing to shovel her money for content that is already on the web for free?

I like this but wish she hadn’t called it “Sarah Palin channel.”

Many people won’t even click on anything with her name in the title, and they would be missing out on excellent content.

bluegill on July 28, 2014 at 2:00 PM

I agree that most people will avoid it because of the name Sarah Palin.

But you cannot be surprised that Sarah Palin puts her name on this show.

Palin trademarked her name. She put in in her political action committee SarahPAC. She featured her name in her Alaska reality show. She put her name in the next reality show. Now she is putting her name on her TAPP channel.

This is all about branding.

RUexperienced on July 29, 2014 at 4:01 PM

Yeah. Go ahead and scream now.
