The checked-out presidency

posted at 11:31 am on July 26, 2014 by Jazz Shaw

Our friend Matt Lewis, of Daily Caller fame, has a column this weekend at The Telegraph which puts forth a rather difficult to dispute assertion; Barack Obama has already checked out of his job. In it, he points to a number of items in evidence which support this theory.

President Obama has emotionally checked out of his job a couple of years early, it seems. How can one tell?

Candidates for president who brazenly assume they are the inevitable victor are sometimes accused of “measuring the drapes” for the White House.

Obama, conversely, seems to be prematurely packing his bags in hopes for an early departure.

Just last week, for example, the Los Angeles Times reported that “The First Family is believed to be in escrow on a contemporary home in a gated community where entertainers Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope and Bing Crosby once maintained estates”.

George Santayana observed that “Americans don’t solve problems, they leave them behind”. Perhaps the president is taking this to heart.

The President’s new prospective digs are on the Left Coast, not the Windy City, so is Obama already engaged in more California dreaming than managing the affairs of the nation? Rounds of golf, fundraisers, barbecue pit stops in Texas and toying with doing Jimmy Kimmel’s show while the nation and the world erupt in multiple lesions and fractures certainly lend the appearance of it. But even with the caveat that the White House travels with the President and people are capable of focusing on more than one thing at a time, it’s not hard to see this presidency as one which already has its eyes on the off ramp.

While you’re free to think what you will about Barack Obama’s “true intentions” when he originally made the decision to seek the presidency, I still feel that he came to the job as a true believer. (Of course, as Steve Martin pointed out in the film Leap of Faith, the true believers – or the Genuine Article – are the ones you always have to watch out for.) Barack Obama honestly felt that his mere presence on the stage would bring the various factions of the nation and the world together… that everyone would, sooner or later, recognize the brilliance of his vision and the structural soundness of his solutions to the planet’s ills and things would truly change.

He was reinforced in this belief constantly, starting with the phenomenal reception to his Yes We Can speech in New Hampshire in January of 2008. We’re used to a history of glad handing, baby kissing politicians making all sorts of grandiose promises which offer impossible visions. We’re also used to knowing in the back of our minds that they generally don’t even believe the pablum they’re peddling themselves. But not so with Barack Obama. I honestly think he really believed it. He wasn’t just falling victim to his own hype… he was embodying it. It’s what led him to send Hillary to Russia with her reset button and make one concession after another to our traditional enemies. The world was about to change, and he would be the catalyst of a new era.

Since then, despite the best efforts of his handlers to keep things cheery in the bubble, reality has set in. The Republicans weren’t about to turn into liberals simply because he could explain their vision in a simpler way. Vladimir Putin wasn’t going to see the error of his ways and embrace a global vision of humanitarian milk and honey. The seas failed to recede and people stubbornly remained … people, with all the variety, warts and blemishes they’d always had. And in the face of this failure to transform on the part of the world, Barack Obama needed someone to blame. On the domestic front, the Republicans were the only available target, so Obama became sullen and insulting, abandoning any pretense at trying to work together.

The reason for this is that Obama’s vision of the future never involved compromise. It relied on everyone suddenly seeing just how right he was and how wrong they were. That didn’t happen, and not having a backup plan in the event that the rabbit failed to emerge from the hat, Barack Obama threw in the towel.

More to the point, he threw in the towel now, because his lifetime of progressive training and his own party’s quarter-century of treating him at various levels as The Golden Child never prepared him for foreign leaders (well, foreign leaders other than Netanyahu) not doing what he wants them to do.

Obama had a rationale in his mind for people not doing what he wanted to do domestically — Conservative Republicans are evil. Obama doesn’t just spout talking points for MSNBC viewers, he actually thinks like an MSNBC viewer and saw the right in America not only as the basic cause of all the country’s problems, but all the problems in the world. That they’re not cooperating with him isn’t a surprise, and also in his mind justifies sicking the IRS, NSA and every other government acronym after them. But it doesn’t explain Putin, Iran, Libya, Boko Haram in Nigeria or why even Hugo and his successor in Venezuela keep saying bad things about him.

They were supposed to love America simply because of Obama, with no work at all required on the president’s part. The fact that the world hasn’t, combined with Obama’s basic beta-male nature and desire never to be in a position where he has to take the blame for anything, means he simply checked out, based on the idea both that he shouldn’t have to be doing anything to keep the world from catching fire, and if he doesn’t do anything, he can still deny responsibility (or blame Bush) if it does happen.

Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Texas, concluded, “President Obama is begging to be impeached.”

Could it be true? I mean literally? Could he have become so bored and jaded with the office, so inundated with decisions he can’t make, so burdened with responsibility he can’t (or won’t) shoulder that he wants an early out? Resignation would be unacceptable because it would be an admission of his ineptitude. No, resignation means he could blame it all on those mean old Republicans.

Do we think that Barack Hussein and Michelle will remain married after leaving the White House? During their time in the public eye, he has been revealed as less-than-average intelligence, naive, and exceedingly uneducated. She has been revealed as greedy, grasping, selfish, lazy, and temperamental.

I don’t see her being able to re-marry easily, although she might be able to score a well-paid legal job in Chicago. He, on the other hand, could remarry swiftly to some trophy wife … I wonder if he’d have the nerve to pick a blonde.

I just wish he’d disappear, join the Peace Corps and go to Africa to fight Ebola or something. But he’ll probably be around for a long long time, giving boring speeches about climate change and gun control at the UN, while he works to give control of the internet to the Security Council.

Obama is not done with his destruction. Not by a long shot.

Re-examine for yourself his history and core characteristics, then you make a prediction of what is to come.

First and foremost, he was born and bred to be an amoral, anti-American racist and communist. He developed into a narcissist and sociopath, bordering on psychopath. Due to all of this, he is bent on knocking the United States down a peg, or knocking it out altogether.

He has little to no internal or external restraints on his behavior because of his personality traits and beliefs, a supportive and complicit Media, an ineffective opposition party, and an ill-informed and apathetic populace.

Based upon all of this, I predict that his behaviors will become increasingly destructive and outrageous. He will be compelled to “push the envelope” until he is externally stopped from doing so.

Can you explain what a “progressive” utopia would look like? I mean, without opposition “progressives” would be free to shove everything down America’s throat.

Please expand.

darwin on July 27, 2014 at 12:05 PM

Here’s an analogy that might also help, Johnny.

Obama is the pilot of a great aircraft called “America”.
How he actually got to be pilot is a mystery to many, but, nevertheless, he is.
He set course for a big mountain straight ahead, then put the plane on autopilot.
He currently spends most of his flight time sleeping or playing video games or talking on the intercom, mostly annoying us, the unfortunate passengers.
Jarrett, et al, periodically wake him up or get his attention to make course adjustments, if necessary, to make sure that we’re still headed straight for the mountain.
Some of the passengers (mostly in the first class section) are inexplicably cheering him onward.
Many of the more knowledgable passengers see that they are on a crash course and are vocal about it while praying that they are wrong.

Big Mooch in this scenario plays an angry, morbidly obese flight attendant who gorges herself blind on all the food in the galley while periodically harassing passengers who have brought their own food regarding what bad selections they made.

The sad part is that the plane is going to crash as planned, but about half the passengers either aren’t aware of it or are glad it’s going to happen, but somehow forgot that they are on the plane.

Full Definition of BRINKMANSHIP
: the art or practice of pushing a dangerous situation or confrontation to the limit of safety especially to force a desired outcome

I’d say zero has that *ahem!* brinksmanship thing down to a fine art. What zero REFUSED to respond to was “compromise”:

Primary Definition of COMPROMISE
1a : settlement of differences by arbitration or by consent reached by mutual concessions
b : something intermediate between or blending qualities of two different things

Basically progressives socialists are just waiting out the illegal immigration-caused demographic shifts that will hopefully end the GOP and conservatisms influence. Not pressed.
libfreeordie on July 27, 2014 at 9:49 AM

FIFY…and then there’s this:

Conservatism:
a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing established institutions, and preferring gradual development to abrupt change; specifically : such a philosophy calling for lower taxes, limited government regulation of business and investing, a strong national defense, and individual financial responsibility for personal needs (as retirement income or health-care coverage)

Kindly explain why you wish the destruction of our nation’s basic principles again…
