Pre-Show Hot Mike Catches Kerry Mocking Israel-Avoids Repeating When Asked During Show

posted at 5:01 pm on July 20, 2014 by Jeff Dunetz

On Sunday John Kerry forgot the number one rule of being miked for an interview; the microphone is always on. The Secretary of State was miked and on camera waiting for an interview with Fox News Sunday’s Chris Wallace when he spoke to an aide about an Israeli operation resulting in the deaths of 14 IDF solders. Kerry’s reaction was a mocking:

It’s a hell of a pinpoint operation. “It’s a hell of a pinpoint operation. We’ve got to get over there. Thank you, John. I think, John, we ought to go tonight. I think it’s crazy to be sitting around.”

Kerry was shaking his head no as Wallace explained that he was going to play the conversation. But when given the opportunity to explain himself Kerry went into full “diplo-spin” mode.

Wallace: Secretary Kerry when you said it’s a hell of a pinpoint operation are you upset that the Israelis are going too far and in fact do you intend to go back to the Middle East tonight, sir?

Kerry: It’s very difficult in these situations, obviously very difficult, Chris. You have people who have come out of tunnels. You have a right to go in and take out those tunnels. We completely support that. We support Israelis right to defend itself against rockets that are continuing to come in. Hamas has start this process rocketing after Israel was trying to find the people who killed three young –one American kid, Israeli citizens. It’s disgraceful. Yeah, it’s tough. It’s tough to have this kind of operation. I reacted obviously in a way that, in a way that anybody does with respect to young children and civilians. But war is tough. I said that publicly and I’ll say it again. We defend Israel’s right to do what it is doing in order to get at those tunnels. Israel has accepted a unilateral cease-fire. It’s accepted the Egyptian plan, which we also support. And it is important for Hamas to now step up and be reasonable and understand that you accept the cease-fire, you save lives, and that’s the way we can proceed to have a discussion about all of the underlying issues which President Obama has clearly indicated a willingness to do.

(The full conversation is embedded at the end of this post.)

The difference between Kerry’s comments when he thought he was off camera and when questioned about it by Wallace makes one wonder which other public statements made by the Secretary of State were coverups of what his real feelings are.

Whenever John Kerry starts talking I immediately think “cut off ears” and can’t bring myself to believe a word he says.

Cromwell never claimed infallibility nor is anybody required to approve of his declarations by a willful submission of will and intellect.

The conservative estimates of the St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre sit at 10,000 slaughtered.

The Pope ordered a Te Deum to be sung as a special thanksgiving (a practice continued for many years after) and had a medal struck with the motto Ugonottorum strages 1572 (Latin for “slaughter of the Huguenots”) showing an angel bearing a cross and sword next to slaughtered Protestants.

No use comparing atrocities. I’m not required to approve of any of them.

Hey, The Hippies from the 1960′s . . . some of your parents and grandparents got the government they wanted and YOU and I have been living through it the last 6 to 8 years. Thanks for your JUNK, it didn’t work. It won’t work. Get out of the way and let an Adult run the country.

John Kerry, although he went to Vietnam . . . he would have been a full fledged “HIPPIE” if he had stayed home.

Nat George on July 21, 2014 at 7:20 AM

Here’s hoping that by “going in” Kerry means he’ll be landing in a SWIFT boat to remind us of his six months in Vietnam.

Happy Nomad on July 21, 2014 at 7:29 AM

It was no accident. Kerry was simply letting the world know that Israel has gone too far.
….

Ned Pepper on July 20, 2014 at 5:05 PM

No, Hamas went too far and now it’s paying the price for it.

There is no such thing as a decent Muslim.
There is no such thing as a decent Muslim.
There is no such thing as a decent Muslim.
There is no such thing as a decent Muslim.
There is no such thing as a decent Muslim.
There is no such thing as a decent Muslim.
There is no such thing as a decent Muslim.
There is no such thing as a decent Muslim.

That’s not nearly enough, but it’ll have to do for the moment.

Next discussion, when we face them in battle, do we give quarter?

No
No
and No.

What do we do with their stinking bodies?

Pee on them, then burn them and toss the ashes into the latrine hole.

NOW we’re getting close to a solution. Am I missing anything?

Diluculo on July 20, 2014 at 6:07 PM

What does it take for one to get banned from this site these days?
I remember back in the days Ed use to respect his readers and wouldn’t let this kind of open bigotry and call for violence against Muslims, or any other group for that matter, go unpunished. But it’s nice to know now that Hotair become a cesspool for bigots and Islamophobes. I’m not a conservative but I wonder how American Muslim Conservatives feel when they see what their fellow conservatives think of them as a human beings. That’s if they consider them humans in the first place.

Salahuddin on July 20, 2014 at 6:57 PM

I wouldn’t be surprised if Ed banned this if you reported it, but it’s sort of marginal. Diluculo was advocating actions taken on the field of battle, so it’s not really accurate to characterize it as some kind of call for an anti-Muslim pogrom or persecution.

And mocking ideologies (including religions) and their followers has generally been fair game here, across the board. If you think Islam has been unfairly singled out, you should read the stuff some atheists and Christians say about each other here.

Even so, you might get Ed and AP to side with you on this being over the line. If you want, you should email them. You can’t complain about them tolerating things if you don’t report them.

Anyhow, it’s amusing to see someone who spouts such nuanced views as this:

There no such thing as “persecuted Christians” in the middle east.

Salahuddin on February 25, 2012 at 10:12 AM

complaining about religious persecution.

Some threads have gone WILDLY off point, no doubt, but Hot Air is hardly LGF redux.

OTOH, I also disagree about the “No Decent Muslim” remark. We all probably know someone that was born or converted to Islam…I know I can state that as a fact, your personal results may vary.

As I stated before, I don’t care how ANY man/woman decides how to pray/worship God…I don’t even care what NAME you give God. That’s between you, and the Almighty and isn’t any of my business; any more than how I do the same thing.

That being said as long as those that DO practice Islam or(insert religious preference here) AND it doesn’t interfere with me or mine, I’m okay with it.

HOWEVER: once it intrudes on my well being, or that “Convert or Die” business…then well, you know us crazy, heavily armed Americans…

At least with terrorist groups are willing to announce their intents (and they always do) respect their beliefs and wishes enough to send them to whatever God they pray to, expeditiously.

BlaxPac on July 20, 2014 at 7:14 PM

It may be that we disagree with how one defines “Muslim.”

I live on an island that has millions of Muslims, & there have been terror attacks here every week for probably decades. So I’m well aware of the Islamo-fanaticism.
But there are many here who call themselves Muslim, who observe the “five Pillars,” who are also good citizens that oppose violence.

itsnotaboutme on July 20, 2014 at 6:28 PM

Agreed. I also think it’s not really right to dismiss peaceful Muslims, as some do, as not being “true Muslims” simply because they don’t interpret the Koran as being a call for violence – it’s sort of an inversion of the “no true Scotsman” fallacy.

RINO in Name Only on July 21, 2014 at 9:33 AM

How, exactly does one make fun of Secretary Lurch?
He mocks himself. One need only play his own words back.

orangemtl on July 21, 2014 at 9:37 AM

This is delicious:

Wow…I’d say unbelievable, but given that Noah Rothman is allowed to spew anti-black hatred and the seeming indifference of AP and Ed towards other inflammatory comments, I guess it was inevitable that we’d go down this Stormfront direction.

libfreeordie on July 20, 2014 at 7:05 PM

Dare I ask what horribly racially racist thing Noah Rothman, of all people, is supposed to have said?

But never mind that. Speaking of inflammatory comments taking us “down this stormfront direction”, I wonder what stormfront’s take on the Israel/Gaza thing is?

Not going to link it (since contra libfree, AP and Ed will happily ban someone for even linking to that cesspool), but googling immediately brings up a stormfront post titled, “Who is the Terrorist: Hamas or Israel?”

Second comment in:

Israel is the biggest terrorist/evil state in this world.

This is followed by the agreement of basically every commenter on the entire thread, with the exception of a lone dissenter who thinks both sides are terrorists.

No matter, surely Libfree is exaggerating, when he says that hotair would allow that kind of inflammatory comment.

Admittedly, Israel *is* one of the most notorious terrorist states out there, can you really blame Hamas?

Krupnikas on July 21, 2014 at 10:24 AM

There’s nothing that Harry Kerry and his party don’t lie about, including lying about their lying. They’re narcissist, lawless, fascist bigots who would have been executed for treason long ago in a civilized country run by men; no danger of that here with evil Dems and their spineless GOP accomplices. And for those ignorant fools who don’t know the true nature of real Islam vs the bogus “moderate” counterfeit, see http://www.thereligionofpeace.com about that one really messed up religion where if you don’t demand jihad, you’re a heretic contrary to proven vile butcher pervert founder Mohammad. God save us.

russedav on July 21, 2014 at 10:43 AM

BlaxPac on July 20, 2014 at 8:08 PM

Forced conversion is at the core of Muhammad’s teaching. It is the norm, not an aberration.

mankai on July 20, 2014 at 8:49 PM

Excellent points. It’s also interesting to note that the first mass conversion for Christianity occurred on the day of Pentecost when Peter and the apostles were preaching in everyone’s native language.

The first Mohammedphile mass conversions took place after Mohammed slaughtered surrounding villages.

As an aside, I often wonder: if Jerusalem would ever be given back to the “Palestinians”, would the Mooslums give Mecca back to Jews and Christians?

Nutstuyu on July 21, 2014 at 10:46 AM

I’ve known a dozen or so “good muslims” through business, but every one of them is only nominally muzz. If you read the crap in the coran, I don’t see how one can be a “good muslim” and do what the coran says without being a menace to non-muzz and civilization in general.

slickwillie2001 on July 20, 2014 at 9:14 PM

I knew one “good mooslum”, a chick who actually dressed normal–not that stupid head wrap thing that smells like an animal died in it. And boy was she hooottttt–the tightest pants and tops. But I swear on her FB page she listed her religion as Muslim.

London’s Pro-Palestine Rally Was A Disgusting Anti-Semitic Spectacle

Thousands of anti-Semites have today succeeded in bringing central London to an almost total standstill.

They marched though the centre of the city before congregating to scream outside the Israeli Embassy in Kensington. It was interesting to watch this rather non-diverse crowd pass. Most of the women seem to be wearing headscarves or the burka, while their men-folk were naturally more appropriately dressed for a sweltering summer day.

But what a picture. These are the people who stayed at home throughout the Syrian civil war, stayed at home when ISIS rampaged across Iraq, stayed at home when Boko Haram and Al-Shabaab carried out their atrocities across central Africa and showed no concern whatsoever when the Muslim Brotherhood was running Egypt into the ground. Yet they pretend to care about Muslims.

And here they all are, coming out to scream because Israel is carrying out the most specific and targeted campaign in the history of warfare in order to stop Hamas – a group dedicated to the annihilation of all Jews – from firing thousands of rockets into the Jewish homeland.
