Remember the border crisis? Obama meets with Central American presidents next week

posted at 5:41 pm on July 18, 2014 by Noah Rothman

In the last 48 hours, the simmering conflicts in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip exploded and have justifiably dominated the headlines. The crisis on the southern border, however, remains a pressing issue with no resolution in sight.

President Barack Obama’s commitment to speed up the deportations of the waves of immigrants crossing the border is meeting with resistance from some Democrats in Congress who worry about American officials breaking up families with ties to the U.S. Democrats have also expressed concerns about a Republican plan to amend a 2008 human trafficking law, which some say has increased the number of minors from noncontiguous nations crossing the border.

“As Congress struggles to agree on emergency funding in response to the crisis, Democrats are taking the White House to task any chance they get,” Politico reported on Friday.

Republicans in the House, meanwhile, are balking at passing the president’s requested $3.7 billion supplemental package aimed at speeding up the asylum hearing process and accelerating deportations. House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said on Thursday that he hopes Congress can approve additional funding for the border crisis before the August recess, but Republicans believe the president’s request is excessive.

“I don’t have as much optimism as I’d like to have,” Boehner said when asked by reporters if a supplemental funding package could be passed before the end of the month.

Via The Huffington Post:

Democrats have called for Congress to appropriate the full amount, but Republicans argue it’s too much, either saying they shouldn’t allocate any money or, more commonly, that they should allocate far less than requested. The House Appropriations Committee is still working on its proposal for how much funding to give the president, based on recommendations by a working group of Republican members commissioned by Boehner.

With Congress stalled, the president is set to meet with the leaders of the Central American nations from where most of this wave of immigrants are emanating next week.

Obama has been warning citizens of these nations not to send their children north since the start of this crisis. American officials have taken further steps, including creative initiatives like sponsoring the creation of the hit Spanish-language song La Bestia, in which the singer warns of the dangers of attempting the to make the trek north to the US-Mexico border. These strategies have not been successful at reducing the number of those attempting to cross the border.

No doubt, Obama and the presidents of these countries will discuss further steps aimed at stemming the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States.

If they’re refugees why not have the UN relocate them across Europe and Asia? Put them on boats and send some to Germany, France, Italy, UK, Spain, Portugal etc.

El_Terrible on July 18, 2014 at 5:45 PM

Send some to Brazil, Chile, the people’s paradise of Cuba and Venezuela. Have Mexico adopt many of them too.

Yes… Obama and The Three Amigo’s doubtless need to work out price per head for the next generation, bought and soon to be paid for, to become the cheap labor base for this nation now that we’ve sucked up at least two generations of Mexico’s strong young backs and pretty much exhausted their supply of spare poverty stricken young people.

The only people who seem to believe that the administration sincerely wants to speed up deportations are in the media.

Maybe the five “leaders” will make a music video while they’re all together. Yeah, that’ll fix it.

No doubt, Obama and the presidents of these countries will discuss further steps aimed at stemming increasing the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States, while simultaneously increasing the outflow of U.S. tax dollars into the pockets of politicians in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.

Edited for accuracy.

Latin-American drug gangs in America can’t find enough young Spanish-speakers to fill their entry-level jobs. So, they’re having to recruit from outside. Also helps that it’s a big distraction to the border patrol.

Surely you jest.

Obama, no doubt, is figuring out a way to increase the number of underage illegal immigrants to the border, while keeping the other presidents mum about it all.

ButterflyDragon on July 18, 2014 at 6:07 PM

I’m dead serious about sending these refugees around the world. Get Nigeria and South Africa to accept a thousand. Show these videos around the world, lets see if they still keep coming.

If Obama, or any of these corrupt politicians, really wanted to weaken the criminal cartels making life unpleasant and dangerous for the people of countries like Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala, there is one easy way to do it: stop pimping amnesty and asylum programs in the U.S.

Amnesty, and the open-ended asylum programs currently being exploited by thousands of phony “refugees,” encourage and incentivize more foreigners to try to get into the U.S. illegally to take advantage of these foolish policies. This creates lucrative business for the cartels, which control the smuggling corridors on our southern border. The millions of dollars currently pouring into the pockets of the cartels (paid by “poor” illegal aliens in the U.S., to bring their relatives into the U.S.) is then used by the cartels to purchase more weapons and more corrupt politicians in countries like Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala. The money makes the cartels more powerful and more dangerous, which makes more people in those countries want to flee to the perceived safety of the U.S.

It’s a vicious cycle, and it is benefiting the cartels at the enormous expense of U.S. taxpayers.

Fight the cartels by opposing amnesty!

They have already sent their MS13 gangbangers to the USA. I bet it is like the Mariel boatlift, when Castro emptied his prisons and mental hospitals and sent them across first.

These countries now must be very peaceful, so we can send the kids back.

So how do open borders grow the government?

He’ll say, like he always does, and is ignored about it “this is unacceptable”…then all go home and it’s as it was.

p.s. they are NOT “immigrants”. That denotes legality. They are, per statute, illegal aliens. They’re also usurpers of a once Land of Laws.

“Keep sending your peons’ north. We’ll have an unassailable majority in every election and stay in power forever. And I’ll keep the aid money flowing into your pockets.”

“What about your citizens who oppose this?”

“F**k ‘em. They need to learn what yours learned a long time ago- we rule, they obey. It’s that f**kin’ simple. They give us any trouble, we’ll handle it the way you do. Why do you think I’ve got all those Federal agencies armed, that aren’t accountable to anyone? Dignity Battalions, baby.

If these current illegals are related to an illegal already in the U.S. and Obama is really worried about breaking up families, the solution is easy.

Deport all of them.

schmuck281 on July 18, 2014 at 10:39 PM

Your plan certainly sounds like basic common sense.

Yet, I heard a radio interview with a high up official in charge of “reuniting” these families and he confirmed that the Federal government is not even asking about the immigration status of the people they are sending these children to live with.

The lack of common sense shown by the Obama administration in dealing with this Invasion is astounding and dangerous for both our country and the children who in many cases are probably being placed with ILLEGAL aliens who obviously are not subject to any sort of background check.

wren on July 18, 2014 at 11:22 PM

This presumes that Obama did not orchestrate this crisis. The jury is still out on this issue. Is the summit with these Central American leaders an actual negotiation to work out real plan for stanching the flow? Or is it Obama merely going through the motions, as he so often does, without any substantive action? I’m betting the latter.

If he cared, he would ask for changes to the William Wilberforce Act, rather than hiding behind it and allowing the tsunami to continue. If he cared, he would ask for more money for the ICE and CBP and less for HHS. If he cared, he would ask Mexico to seal its border with these countries or else he would impose trade sanctions. If he cared, he could threaten Mexico and Central American countries with a cut off of remittances to stop this. If he cared, he would allow Texas and Arizona to enforce the federal immigration laws. If he cared, he would send the national guard soldiers, aircraft, and drones in as spotters for CBP and local law enforcement. If he cared, he would flood the Rio Grande with Coast Guard vessels. The list goes on and on.

But he doesn’t care. He promulgated DACA. He’s used William Wilberforce as both sword and shield. His CIA or USAID placed those stories in Central American newspapers. His ICE is not arresting or deporting anybody. His CBP and his administrative judges are granting asylum requests at unprecedented rates. His HHS is placing these kids throughout the United States. His CBP is issuing warrants and releasing these kids.

He calls turning migrants back at the border deportation, it is not. He calls unenforced in absentia deportation orders deportations, they are not. He calls “doing right by these kids” his first priority.

Tell me that he didn’t orchestrate this crisis, that he doesn’t want this flood of illegal aliens, that he doesn’t want it to continue.
