Hillary: This plane thing is really Europe’s problem

posted at 10:01 am on July 18, 2014 by Noah Rothman

President Barack Obama’s reaction to the worst attack on a civilian aircraft since September 11, 2001 was …underwhelming. Without even issuing a statement of condemnation, as did his last predecessor to face Russian aggression did, the president devoted all of 38 seconds to addressing what he called a “tragedy” over the skies of Ukraine.

Some of the president’s defenders have suggested that Obama is merely displaying excess caution amid heightened tensions in the midst of a situation that could quickly spiral beyond anyone’s control. Those supporters are quick to add that this caution is a welcome change from the last administration’s shoot first, ask questions later approach to foreign affairs – an unfair and misguided assessment, but one which is nevertheless prevalent among president’s backers.

The individual vying to become his successor, a former Secretary of State no less, put the lie to the notion that Obama was merely being extremely cautious when he did not deviate from his schedule of eating sampling Delaware’s local fare and sermonizing about “roads and bridges” for the umpteenth time.

No, Obama’s caution is another example of the president refusing to address crises in a timely fashion due to what he probably believes is an attachment to the doctrinal fantasy that the United States is overextended in the world. Hillary Clinton confirmed that when she told Charlie Rose on Thursday night that this whole plane mess is really Europe’s problem.

“As you know, the Europeans have tried to figure out the best way forward,” she said when asked how the United States should respond to clear evidence that pro-Russian separatists using Russian hardware killed nearly 300 foreign civilians. “From my perspective — and I have the benefit of not being in the government — if there is evidence linking Russia to this, that should inspire the Europeans to do much more.”

After noting that the world should put “[Russian President Vladimir] Putin on notice” and not “stand idly by,” Clinton reassured Rose that the United States would stand idly by.

“So Europeans have to be the ones to take the lead on this,” said the former secretary. “It was a flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur over European territory. There should be outrage in European capitals.”

That sucking sound you hear is the rapid formation of a power vacuum in Europe as the United States signals its noninterest in matters of regional and global security.

As of this writing, the bodies of only 181 of the 298 passengers on board Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 have been recovered. There has been no confirmation from the U.S. government that American citizens were not on that plane. For Clinton, an aspiring President of the United States to suggest that Americans killed on a civilian transport flying over hostile territory — made hostile, by Obama’s own admission, by Russian actions – is not America’s problem is insulting and irresponsible.

Fortunately, at least insofar as the reaction in the British press is concerned, Europe is taking this escalation of hostilities with the seriousness it deserves:

What does accounted for mean? Were they on the manifest or not? I’m sure they have not matched up all the bodies to the manifest yet, but the manifest is a pretty straight forward document on international flights….

Walter L. Newton on July 18, 2014 at 10:33 AM

Sure I would, then again I have personal and professional standards which most media people don’t seem to possess.

But I don’t care if Americans were onboard in regards to the behavior of Dog Eater, because hundreds of millions of people utilize airliners every year and this murder of 295 people is a direct threat to all of them. Dog Eater is a soulless prig focused on himself at all times, he showed some faux concern because it was expected of him, not because he wanted to.

Hillary will just be one more Marxist bureaucrat joining with the other Sixties Flower Children America haters that fill the federal office buildings in DC to near bursting. So far she hasn’t exactly warmed anyone’s heart with her businesslike acumen aimed mainly at enriching Hillary.

Her comment about Flight 17 being “a European Problem,” shows her typical disdain for actually standing for something. If she can’t make some ready cash out of an incident, she passes the buck with rapidity.

How anyone could entertain the idea of actually putting her back in a position of power is beyond my comprehension. The last time she actually had a job was back in the Rose Law Firm days when she most likely excelled at stealing monies from clients who made the mistake of trusting her as a person.

Nay! I say! No More Clintons.

American citizenship is meaningless in the age of Obama.

National citizenship, like national borders, are raaaaacist, so we’re no longer recognizing them. Anyway, the whole concept of independent nation-states is so last century. Obama said so.

Like Dear Leader, we’re all “citizens of the world” now — a status which is, of course, as utterly meaningless as being a U.S. citizen has become.

Hillary’s position, just like the Dog Eater’s, is reflective of the “progressive” left. They are all about a new world order, to include the notion of one world government.

That said, Hillary’s belief is that this is none of our concern. The notion of the United States being the leader of the free world and the world’s peacekeeper is over.

The events in Israel/Gaza, Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, and anywhere else there is war, pestilence and unrest proves this.

None of this is our concern folks. Just build them roads & bridges, and quit picking on those poor children just wanting a better life here in America.

Let’s see. There are about twenty souls on board who can’t be identified as to nationality. This was a flight to Indonesia. Maybe it is an international protocol for some Indonesian people to have trouble selecting their nationality du jour. Our president is an example of this. The unidentified passengers’ relatives may not select a nationality until they know who will be giving out the money.

Old Country Boy on July 18, 2014 at 11:23 AM

Hillary has shown herself to be not somebody that we want as the Commander in Chief dealing with foreign policy and national security issues. Her failures as to Benghazi, her silliness as to “re-set” diplomacy and now her reaction to the shooting down of a passenger jet over the eastern Ukraine — all show that she cannot handle wisely that 3:00 AM call.

I’m amazed she didn’t take the Hillary route and say since everyone died already, “what difference does it make now?”

Don L on July 18, 2014 at 11:25 AM

Absolutely stunning.

So the president and Mrs. Clinton have departed from centuries of engagement with our allies around the world. They are content to let others handle matters which ultimately involve our security and ability to project influence around the world. They have abandoned the moral responsibility we have to keep conflicts from growing into larger wars in which our sovereignty and people are threatened.

This is a theme with Mrs. Clinton and it’s ending badly for us everywhere she was involved. Whether it’s along our southern border, the Middle East or places like the Ukraine, conflict in the world is growing while our influence to prevent them from happening or spiraling out of control is dwindling to near zero.

If history has shown anything, it is when the United States is disengaged at this level, things end badly for our citizens.

It is fairly clear that Mrs. Clinton is Barack Obama in a skirt. Even worse, she’ learned nothing from the past six years and seeks to continue the malaise we are currently experiencing.

We are all at further risk due to this incompetence. We are all suffering economically and our children, collectively, have a dim future. This is no longer about politics or party. It is about the survival of a nation, and it is bleaker with people like Mrs. Clinton conniving to run for our presidency. We can do much better. Much.

When that “other” Malaysian plane disappeared in March, which was carrying mostly Malaysian and Chinese people, the U.S. sent ships and planes thousands of miles over remote parts of the Indian Ocean in a fruitless search.

Now when a Malaysian plane carrying mostly European passengers from countries who are our allies is apparently shot down by Russians over land in Ukraine, we can’t be bothered to investigate?

“Well I’ll tell ya, it reminds me of a story, back when I was running’ for Congress, a waitress came up to me—and Man, was she a looker!—anyhoo, she was asking’ me, “Joe, what’s your favorite color?”

Courage.
Leadership.
Neither are present at the top. Probably the fault of Climate Change and Congress, or something.

All I can say is that none of this would have happened if Obama was still president! ………………….. Oh, wait.

He’s held the official title of ‘president’ for about five years.
But he’s never been ‘Presidential‘.
We’d need Ronald Reagan for that.

So Americans were murdered by Ukrainian separatists and Russian advisors helping them with or manning the antiaircraft missiles.

So what difference does that make now?

Next from Hillary, “Why not just give the Russian separatists a Reset Button. Look how well it turned out for everyone when I gave it to Putin. The Ukrainians will probably be giving me an award soon.”

Anybody out there naive enough to think this power-hungry bitch WON’T run for president in 2016? If you do, you’re delusional and seriously detached from reality.

Bob Davis on July 18, 2014 at 2:29 PM

How many Americans were on that flight?

Walter L. Newton on July 18, 2014 at 11:23 AM

The irony…if any of them had crossed our borders illegally, they would have been deemed American’s…all of the world is American’s according to this administration, so the whole plane, we lost potential American’s…

NBC News is reporting, citing US officials, that a surface-to-air missile shot down MH17 and was fired from Ukraine, ‘just inside the Russian border.’ canopfor on July 18, 2014 at 10:55 AM

Isn’t thata sorta kinda contradiction?

“So Europeans have to be the ones to take the lead on this,” said the former secretary. “It was a flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur over European territory. There should be outrage in European capitals.”

After the EU’s grotesque failure to knock off Ghaddafi and incessant whining and helplessness until we finally administered the coup de grace to Libya’s dictator, I can’t help but agree.

The longer we coddle the EU, a nation (kinda) with a larger population and arguably higher standard of living than America, the weaker and more useless they are as allies. Worse yet, their diplomatic lead is always French with Germany as the silent partner.

Robert Gates spoke to this line of thinking in his book. We can’t lead the EU around by the nose and still pretend they are strong allies. Or even allies worth having.

The EU is the tail trying to wag the dog. It’s long overdue to let them grow a backbone and live in the real world.

Toocon on July 18, 2014 at 3:44 PM

Except for the dead American, this IS Europe’s problem. For one, I am tired of being Europe’s muscle while they kill themselves on cradle-to-grave socialism.

As far as the dead American is concerned, if the Obama Admin can sleep well at night with four dead in Benghazi, then one dead person isn’t going to cause them any grief.

where in the world is the alleged SOS Kerry? – warmairfan at 11:17 AM

Actually, yesterday his office announced his “bags were packed” so he could race to bring peace to Gaza.

The prez assured us again today that John is still rarin’ to go. Just call him, he’ll come running.

I’m picturing Lurch in his lair at Foggy Bottom, staring at a phone that just won’t ring, maybe tearing up a little but bravely humming the Hahvad fight song. LOL.

Between Odinga, Shrillary and Lurch, no one important will even call and suck up to any of them any more. I think it started when Egypt started refusing our phone calls after the Saudis bought them off with a $15 billion aid package.

Toocon on July 18, 2014 at 3:50 PM

“This plane thing is really Europe’s problem”

Between that statement and Benghazi, give me one good reason not to start investing in Iranian war bonds if this moral equivalent of a bag lady is ever elected president.

MaiDee on July 18, 2014 at 3:53 PM

Well, we do know Hillary will never be available for any 3am phone calls, she will just think it is someone else’s problem. Nothing to see here, another empty ( pant suit). Let’s just not go there! The trouble with commie progs who are schooled in Cloward-Piven and Alinsky is they have no way to respond to a world crisis, as they have no experience in thinking out of their Marxist box . They cannot respond to any shift in the Paradigm.

I never thought I would say (write) this, but thank God for Samantha Power. At least one person in this Administration can see what is going on and is unafraid to speak up.

well, not to get off track here..but, she has had some “major” work done on the old visage…that alone used to convince me that Herself was going to run..but, I think she won’t..it’s too hard and she is not well…

We better pray that the electorate picks someone competent because if we get Clinton, it might as well be 8 more years of Obama.

And I am not really seeing any liberals, oh excuse me, Democrats… that could make the changes needed.

I don’t really see too many Republicans that inspire confidence either, for that matter.

The type of leader we need right now would probably never win an election. Not in this climate of agenda-driven media and soundbite-driven elections.

rightConcept on July 19, 2014 at 12:36 PM

We better pray that the electorate picks someone competent because if we get Clinton, it might as well be 8 more years of Obama.

Unfortunately it is not the electorate who chooses our candidate it is the Power Base, the Elitist who allow us to choose from who they have already selected. It took the strength of Reagan to bust through that barrier the last time we had a sane president.
