Smart Power State Department ends tumultuous day with stirring, relevant tweet

posted at 10:01 pm on July 17, 2014 by Mary Katharine Ham

I was going to add this as an update to my last post, but I have to give it more than that. Consider this a piece of evidence for Allahpundit’s theory that this White House is just going to stick to what it wants to talk about no matter what is happening in the world, no matter how tragi-comical it becomes from the outside. For years, tweets from @BarackObama have popped up in my Twitter feed so often so very detached from the actual events of the day as to feel like some kind of non sequitur performance art. This outdoes all of them.

This tweet is from the official State Department account, from Jen Psaki, at 9:26 p.m.*, hours after two huge international stories have broken. Now, the administration perhaps can’t be expected to react to the actual events at issue seriously. Too much to ask. But what they do sometimes react to seriously is a p.r. issue, and they’ve had many hours to realize everyone thinks they’re muffing this. Would it be so much to ask to keep it relatively sober tonight?

And yet. And yet.

Maybe it’s time to take the semi- off of semi-retired. Today, the president had the opportunity to do the two things (maybe the only two things?) that are in his wheelhouse—respond to a tragedy with a decently written and serviceably delivered speech and react to a p.r. crisis in such a way as to spare him and his team immediate political consequences. He can’t even be bothered with either of those.

* The embedded tweet says 7:26 p.m. because I’m in the Mountain Time Zone.

It is time to RETIRE this President via impeachment BEFORE HE wakes up one day to read in the newspapers: America, Destroyed from Within

The GOP would be smart if (I know, I know; they won’t) they decided to run advertisements showing how apathetic this administration is. It’s very simple: show a montage of images illustrating the several domestic and international crises that have emerged within the last few months… followed by Obama grabbing a burger, cracking jokes, going out on the campaign trail, etc.

It would make such a difference just to know the GOP actually cares.

Funny that right now in HA Headlines there’s a feminist screed entitled “Girls love science. We tell them not to.”. The usual stuff about men keeping girls out of math/science, but at least I don’t think the word “fashionable” was used anywhere in the piece. So is Jen just buffing her valley-girl cred, or is State now concerned with fashionability, since apparently there’s nothing much else to tweet about currently?

This is Obama’s Achilles Heel.

Obama must remain calm. Alinsky tells him to. His remaining days will be spent prodding and provoking our side to do something stupid, while his team creates and fosters chaos, yet appears calm and unaffected.

Alinsky:

The goal is to foment enough public discontent, moral confusion, and outright chaos to spark the social upheaval that Marx, Engels, and Lenin predicted — a revolution whose foot soldiers view the status quo as fatally flawed and wholly unworthy of salvation. Thus, the theory goes, the people will settle for nothing less than that status quo’s complete collapse — to be followed by the erection of an entirely new system upon its ruins. Toward that end, they will be apt to follow the lead of charismatic radical organizers who project an aura of confidence and vision, and who profess to clearly understand what types of societal “changes” are needed.

As Alinsky put it: “A reformation means that the masses of our people have reached the point of disillusionment with past ways and values. They don’t know what will work but they do know that the prevailing system is self-defeating, frustrating, and hopeless. They won’t act for change but won’t strongly oppose those who do. The time is then ripe for revolution

So we need to attack him and mock him when he is faking ‘calm’ when he should have some reaction.

Its a tragedy any way you cut it, but I suspect someone shot it down. Its possible it was terrorism, but that seems to be the least likely scenario.

At this point I don’t think we even know its an SA-11/BUK that shot it down. Where did that information come from?

Nobody had any reason to shoot down a passenger airliner. If Ukraine did it, Putin would be pouncing. Planes emit an IFF (Identify/friend or foe)message continuously. If they had targeting and launch capability, but no IFF reciever…..

But she’s a redhead.. and that makes up for everything.

Twitter could be set to geolocate your timezone from your IP rather than use computer time? Seems more logical.
