Is this his first nomination? Ace is right that it’s hard to keep track. He’s got at least two Grammys for reading his books into a microphone and a Nobel peace prize for, uh … to this day, no one’s really sure why.

But the world certainly has been peaceful lately, hasn’t it?

Here’s to you, champ, at the start of a relaxing, star-studded post-presidency.

It seems like there are as many Emmy categories as television programs — and at least one of them is big enough to include President Obama.

Obama’s appearance this year on Between Two Ferns — a Web-based parody talk show hosted by comedian Zach Galifianakis — was nominated for an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program…

Obama, Galifianakis, and Between Two Ferns are competing for an Emmy in an eclectic category that includes mini-episodes of the sitcom Parks and Rec as well as the Super Bowl halftime show.

Ace thinks this can only end with Obama winning the Presidential Medal of Freedom and presenting it to himself, like Napoleon placing the crown on his own head. I think it can only end with him presenting himself with an Oscar, as that’s the sort of A-list celebrity cred he truly covets. In the meantime, though, there’s no doubt that (a) he’ll win the Emmy for his “Between Two Ferns” bit and (b) he and Galifianakis will reunite to tape some sort of jokey award-acceptance skit at the White House that the Emmys can air in lieu of a personal appearance. And then (c) that skit will win next year’s Emmy for Outstanding Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program, triggering some sort of Obama/Emmy infinite regression that requires him to be on awards show for the rest of his life. Just as he planned.

Until then, though, between the golfing, pool-shooting, and bowling, there’s work to do.
