Boehner: Yes, our lawsuit against Obama might include immigration

posted at 4:01 pm on July 9, 2014 by Allahpundit

I’m honestly surprised. You can see the leftist spin coming from a mile away: “REPUBLICANS SUE TO KEEP LATINO MIGRANTS OUT.” (Here’s Brian Beutler at TNR with a sneak preview.) That’s the precise opposite of the message that the GOP leadership wants to push before 2016. The obvious move is to leave immigration out of the House’s suit and to target less politically fraught examples of Obama’s executive power grabs, like suspending ObamaCare’s employer mandate, instead.

So why is Boehner considering it?

Speaker John Boehner said he is considering including executive actions on immigration as part of the House’s lawsuit against President Barack Obama.

“Yes we are,” the Ohio Republican said on Wednesday…

Boehner did not elaborate on what immigration policy the lawsuit may consider, many GOP lawmakers have zeroed in on a 2012 directive from the Obama administration that effectively halted deportations for hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants who grew up in the United States.

They’re going to sue O to overturn his 2012 amnesty for DREAMers? “REPUBLICANS SUE TO KICK LATINO CHILDREN OUT.”

Three possibilities here. One: Plain and simple, the politics have changed. Dave Brat beat Cantor by calling him an amnesty shill while voters were watching tens of thousands of illegals from Central America stream across the border. Independents might have tolerated a soft-on-amnesty push before, but now Boehner’s concluded that they want to see stern action on security before the midterms. Adding immigration to the lawsuit is a nod to that, however liberals might spin it.

Two: It’s just blather. Boehner knows they’re not going to include immigration in the Obama lawsuit — his masters at the Chamber of Commerce would never allow it — but he needs to pretend for the time being, while conservatives are zeroed in on the border crisis. The whole point of the lawsuit is to show righties that House Republicans object to O’s threat to separation of powers. If he refuses to add immigration to the litany of complaints, at a moment when Obama’s promising a mass amnesty of illegals who are already here and tea-party hero Sarah Palin is demanding impeachment, it’ll defeat the whole purpose. He’s got to give righties some hope that immigration will be part of this, at least for now.

Three: Boehner really does intend to include immigration in the suit, knowing full well that the left will brutalize the GOP over it. He has no choice, though. Remember, the ultimate goal of Beltway Republicans in their now years-long amnesty push is to impress Latino voters by showing that the GOP is willing to play ball on legalizing illegals, which in turn will (eventually) make Latinos more inclined to vote Republican. That’s what all of this has been about politically. If Obama now turns around and issues a mass amnesty on his own, the Republican dream of a mega-pander to Latinos will be up in smoke. As much as they hate to give the left a new reason to call them the “party of deportations” a la Beutler, they’d hate even more if Obama ends up earning all of the goodwill with Latinos that Republicans were hoping to share. If the lawsuit’s successful, it could in theory block Obama from issuing that mass amnesty, whereupon Boehner could turn around next year, swallow hard, and pass comprehensive immigration reform, thus fulfilling the establishment’s pander-y hopes. At the very least, the mere prospect that a federal judge might nullify an executive amnesty may make Obama think twice about going ahead with it.

That makes me wonder. If National Journal’s right that the GOP is planning a “potentially dramatic” vote to authorize the suit at the end of July, right before they head out for their August recess, what will this do to Obama’s timeline in issuing his amnesty? I’ve explained in other posts why I think he’ll wait ’til next year — the politics are simply too unpredictable right before the midterms — but lefties like Greg Sargent are nudging him to go big and to do it soon, notwithstanding the daily news about more illegals coming across the border. Maybe the lawsuit will inspire O to act sooner rather than later. Lefties will appreciate the act of defiance if Obama turns around in August and issues his order, right after being slapped with the suit. And the longer the new policy is in effect, the more a federal judge might hesitate to strike it down — in which case, Obama has a strong incentive to get it done quickly. Cross those fingers and hope for the best, red-state Democrats!

While you take all of that in, enjoy Mika Brzezinski being reduced nearly to tears at the thought of Precious facing an impeachment charge.

“As the state’s top elected officials debate how to halt a recent surge of immigrants — many of them unaccompanied minors — across the Texas-Mexico border, health officials and volunteer doctors are voicing concerns over what they say is the more serious challenge: a looming medical crisis.

During a recent visit to two detention centers that house undocumented migrant children, officials with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) reported that conditions there posed a high risk for infectious disease outbreaks.

Meanwhile, doctors providing medical care for immigrants being released by U.S. Border Patrol ahead of their court dates say those recent detainees were not appropriately screened or treated for illness while in federal custody.

Since October, authorities in the Border Patrol’s Rio Grande Valley sector have detained an unprecedented 160,000 undocumented immigrants, including more than 33,500 unaccompanied minors. These immigrants were transferred to federal detention centers, where they have been held temporarily.

During a tour of detention centers in Brownsville and McAllen last week, state public health officials identified several health-related issues, including a lack of medicine for child immigrants, no comprehensive medical screenings and no testing for vaccinations or tuberculosis.

“Our staff believe the children’s living conditions pose a high potential for infectious disease outbreak among the children and staff,” department spokeswoman Carrie Williams said. “The conditions are not healthy and not acceptable for children by Texas and national public health standards.”

Officials with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said Customs and Border Protection agents conduct medical screenings for several symptoms — rash, fever, cough, vomiting and diarrhea — shortly after detainees come into federal custody at border patrol stations. Once the immigrants are transported to detention facilities, they are screened “for signs of illness consistent with communicable diseases of public health concern,” agency officials say.

But state officials said the medical screenings are not sufficient because they’re only being conducted on a verbal and visual basis. DSHS also raised hygiene concerns, reporting that children eat, sleep and use the bathroom in the same crowded cells, and have no running water or soap. ..”

Anybody seen this deal that was announced on Monday?

“On Monday, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and Guatemalan president Otto Perez Molina held a joint press conference in Playas de Catazaja, Mexico, to officially announce an agreement to make it easier for those making the illegal journey to the United States from Central America, to cross into Mexico….

The official announcement only confirms what many of us have known all along…the current chaos on the border which the Obama administration has sympathetically (and dishonestly) characterized as a “humanitarian crisis,” only exists due to collusion between the governments of Mexico, Guatemala and likely the United States.

For eight months they’ve been bringing in immigrants but they’ve been doing it in the middle of the night… Basically, they come in with shipments every 72 hours. We got this sudden spike in disease here lately. So, I started researching and found out it was a direct result of the illegal immigration coming in.

That quote indicates exactly why this is a brewing health crisis. Customs and Border Protection agents are not trained health professionals nor do they have adequate knowledge to conduct any but the most obvious medical screenings.

Truth be told, not only does Obama not care about protecting the citizens of our country, but he could care less about the well-being of these illegals. They are political pawns to him and nothing else.

Send the CDC, nurses, and doctors, and treat and delouse them, and then send them home.

The GOPe, if it had any sense and any principles, would be beating that drum.

Another reason to have trained health professionals: I seriously doubt those Customs and Border agents have adequate knowledge to protect themselves. A Border agent was reported to have scabies the other day.

And I’d like to thank Sarah Palin for almost bringing Mika to tears and once again controlling the direction of the discussion, while intelligent and thoughtful bloggers do jack squat.

Oh and reading this post of Allah jumping up and down as the media shot at his feet, yelling, “Dance!” was one of the most pathetic things I’ve read in a while. My God, it was like reading something from a castrated man. Every action, every thought is controlled by the media.

At the link upthread the source was one of many doctors who volunteer to treat and attempt to screen.

From another link:

“Are the thousands of illegal immigrant kids housed in detention facilities happy and well fed — or are they living in disease-infested compounds shrouded in secrecy?

Well, it depends on who you ask.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) seems to think the children coming across the southern border are remarkably healthy. It’s a sentiment shared by BCFS — the Texas-based agency formerly known as Baptist Child & Family Services contracted to run camps at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio and Fort Sill in Oklahoma.

More than 7,000 children have been processed through the two camps, according to a BCFS official. They allege that only 119 children have been treated for lice, 22 for scabies, and one for the H1N1 Flu. BCFS says the most common illnesses seen at Lackland are fever, headache, upper respiratory cold and ingrown toenails.

However, at least a half dozen anonymous sources, including nurses and health care providers who worked at Lackland, allege that the government is covering up what they believe to be a very serious health threat.

Several of my sources tell me that tuberculosis has become a dangerous issue at both the border and the camps.

“The amount of tuberculosis is astonishing,” one health care provider told me. “The nurses are telling us the kids are really sick. The tuberculosis is definitely there.”

“Some of the tuberculosis that comes from Central America is drug resistant,” he told me. “It’s not easier to spread but it is harder to treat. I’m concerned about that…”

workingclass artist on July 9, 2014 at 5:47 PM

““They are lying,” one nurse told me. “We treated that many kids with lice on a given day. We would put 20 kids in front of us – 10 in each row. You could see the bugs crawling through their hair.”

Another former staff member told me it was like working in a giant emergency room.

“They had children in the infirmary that had been there several days,” the former staffer told me. “You were on your feet nonstop. They had chicken pox, measles, and there was a concern strep was spreading.”

BCFS denied any of the children had the measles. They said public health authorities “have inspected our facility and had access to freely converse with our medical staff and children.”
Health care providers tell me the Lackland facility is like a giant orphanage. And while lice and scabies abound — they warn that the bigger problem lurking is tuberculosis.

“Lice and scabies are fixable,” a nurse said. “TB is the real problem here.”

It’s impossible to know the full extent of the communicable diseases that have come and are coming across the border. Nurses and other care givers tell me they’ve been told to keep their mouths shut.

Those caught divulging information are subject to immediate dismissal — and all my sources said they were told they could also be arrested.

BCFS won’t even allow random inspections of their facilities by the media or members of Congress.

Oklahoma Rep. Jim Bridenstein was denied access last week to the HHS facility at Fort Sill – another facility run by BCFS.

“There is no excuse for denying a federal representative from Oklahoma access to a federal facility in Oklahoma where unaccompanied children are being held,” the congressman said in a statement.

Bridenstein said he was told that unannounced visitors are not allowed – even if they are elected officials – and that he would have to make an appointment to visit the facility.

“What are they trying to hide?” he asked. “Do they not want the children to speak with members of Congress?”

BCFS blames HHS for the shroud of secrecy. Sources within the organization tell me they’ve been ordered not to talk to the media and not to let anyone inside the camps….”

indicates that the Feds don’t want any non-political Christian charity at all. No one from the outside seeing what is going on.

It’s obvious nothing can be done unless the Obama administration is in control. They’re shaping a political narrative, and they don’t want any truth to contradict it.

There isn’t anything wrong with our immigration system other than Obama obstructing enforcement. And now Obama wants $3.8 billion more to welcome illegal aliens with taxpayer-funded goodies. That is $71,000 per illegal alien child!!!! Congress must decline that request.

We welcome more than 1.1 million LEGAL immigrants per year (MORE THAN ANY COUNTRY ON EARTH) in addition to granting 700,000 temporary permits, and 500,000 student visas.

Timeline of Obama systematically undermining immigration law with regulations, memos and other administrative measures since 2009. This is an impeachable offence.
