Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:01 am on July 6, 2014 by Allahpundit

It’s wall-to-wall immigration this morning on the Sunday shows thanks to the uproar in Murrieta, which now involves both protests (“Proud LEGAL American. It doesn’t work any other way.”) and counterprotests (“Against illegal immigration? Great! Go back to Europe!”). “Face the Nation” sets the pace with not one, not two, but three members of Gang of Eight — McCain, Graham, and Durbin — to defend the case for amnesty as thousands of illegals surge across the border. You’re better off with “This Week,” which will feature Rick Perry and the commissioner of Customs and Border Protection calling for beefier borders. Perry’s eager to seize this opportunity to prove to righties ahead of 2016 that he’s tougher on immigration than the 2012 debates would suggest. So far, so good.

Meanwhile, DHS secretary Jeh Johnson will be on “Meet the Press” to preview Obama’s next executive amnesty. Sounds like it’s going to be a big one. The full line-up is at Politico.

As Americans scrambled ahead of the July Fourth holiday weekend on Thursday afternoon, the Department of Health and Human Services released 1,296 pages of new regulations dealing with payment rates to doctors and hospitals.

The timing of the news release is part of a long pattern for President Obama’s administration, which has often used holidays as an opportunity to dump dense regulatory changes when most reporters and Americans are focused on their holiday plans.

The release came at 4:15 p.m.

Last year, the Obama administration used the days surrounding the July 4th holiday as an opening to announce a delay to the employer mandate and to disclose the fact that the exchanges would operate on the honor system, doling out benefits without properly verifying information provided by applicants.

It’s going to be a little more difficult to ferret out which members of Congress are lavished with all-expenses-paid trips around the world after the House has quietly stripped away the requirement that such privately sponsored travel be included on lawmakers’ annual financial-disclosure forms.

The move, made behind closed doors and without a public announcement by the House Ethics Committee, reverses more than three decades of precedent.

Welcome to the DNC Media Propaganda Hour, kids! Join the DNC Media for all of the (lefty) opinions that Americans need to hear as we remember and celebrate our nation’s founding.

Forget that modern liberalism would have been met with rage and gunfire by the founders, followed by hot tar and flames…the libs are here to tell you how their lunatic ideas follow directly in the footsteps of Madison, Jay, Adams, Jefferson, Washington, Hamilton and Franklin.

Let’s have a gander:

“Meet the Press” on NBC
• Jeh Johnson – Kook Left Fringe
• Raul Labrador – Conservative
• Tony Blair – Liberal
• Moderator: Immoderate Liberal

Typical.

“Face the Nation” on CBS
• John McCain – RINO
• Lindsey Graham – RINO
• Dick Durbin – Kook Left Fringe
• Moderator: Immoderate Liberal

How to describe these three liberal dopes? Three Amigos? The Three Stooges? Winkin’ Blinkin’ and Odd? Ah … Los Tres Reyes!

“This Week” on ABC
• Rick Perry – Conservative, I guess.
• Gil Kerlikowske – Pathetic Liberal law enforcement clown.
• Newt Gingrich – RINO who poses as a conservative
• Donna Brazile – Kook Left Fringe
• Moderator: Immoderate Liberal

Perry and a panel of Liberal nitwits. Now that Newt isn’t looking for conservative votes anymore, we can look forward to more “Roosevelt was the best…global warming chats with Nanzy, etc”

“Fox News Sunday” on Fox
• Darrell Issa – RINO
• John Barrasso – Conservative
• Bob Casey – Kook Left Fringe (despite what you may have heard)
• Liz Cheney – Conservative
• Moderator: Moderate Liberal

Fox leans right today. Casey represents the Kook Left with his Heritage rating of “2”. Durbin-like.

“State of the Union” on CNN
• Henry Cuellar – Liberal
• Alan Long – Murrieta Mayor – unknown and safely assumed Liberal
• Michelle Howard – Affirmative-action Liberal (the U.S. Navy is becoming a major joke)
• Mo Elleithee – Liberal
• Sean Spicer – GOPer
• Moderator: Immoderate Liberal

A nearly complete propaganda show for the CNN Kook Left. RNC spokesman Spicer is what separates this CNN panel from the fever swamp.

“Political Capital” on Bloomberg TV
• Paul Wolfowitz – Conservative, I guess? NeoCon.
• Ken Feinberg – N/A
• Moderator: Immoderate Liberal Clown

As God is my witness, I didn’t know this show was hosted by the clownish lefty Al Hunt. What a putz. Having him on a panel as the mouthpiece of the Kook Left Fringe is nauseating. Having him actually lead a discussion must be like blunt trauma.

“Newsmakers” on C-SPAN
• Gary Doer – Canadian Liberal

“Enfoque” on Telemundo
• Cecilia Muñoz – Race-victim, affirmative-action Liberal

So for your two bottom-feeder shows, you get nothing but the droning of The Left. Retch.

The DNC Media at their worst today. If you can stomach fraud Bob Casey on Fox, it’s your best bet. If you are suicidal, steer clear of CBS, which will have even healthy viewers dialing the Suicide Prevention Hotline in desperation. CNN is a train wreck.

Off to church and then the farmer’s market in lovely Frankfort. Hopefully the fresh donut guys from Geneva will show up today.

Cheers, all!

On May 5 the Nanaimo City Council voted, 8-1, to ban simulcasts of a worldwide “leadership conference” from being shown at the Vancouver Island Conference Center, a public facility, because some unspecified number of the “LBGT community” were “upset” by the conference’s “associations” with “persons and organizations with a long history of promoting homophobia,” blah-blah.

The conference in question, “Leadercast,” is held every year in one major city and simulcast to public venues in hundreds of other cities. Personally, I would find it unbearably dull. It’s a bunch of motivational speakers, CEOs from big companies, and assorted celebrities of the likes of Desmond Tutu, Laura Bush, and Condoleeza Rice, telling you how to become a big success yourself by acquiring certain leadership skills. The chance of any topic related to “gay” issues coming up is zero.

So why were Nanaimo’s homosexuals so “upset” by it? Two extremely silly reasons emerged from the discussion.

First: One of Leadercast’s innumerable sponsors was Chick-Fil-A, whose CEO once said he was opposed to same-sex “marriage.”

Second: One of the featured speakers had once voiced his support for “reparative therapy” for homosexuals. That was not what he was going to talk about for Leadercast, but never mind. Because of his opinion on one subject, his opinion on any subject must not be heard.

By no means is Leadercast any kind of “Christian” conference. But never mind—there are some Christians “associated” with it. So the Nanaimo City Council ruled that, from now on, no one “associated” with such “hate groups” is to have access to any public facility in their city.

Climate alarmism is “the biggest fraud in the field of science” and the 97% consensus claim is nonsensical, Apollo 7 astronaut Walter Cunningham tells MRCTV in a preview of his presentation at the upcoming Heartland Institute climate conference, July 7-9.

“Since about 2000, I looked farther and farther into it,” Col. Cunningham (USMC, Ret.) tells MRCTV in an exclusive interview. “I found that not one of the claims that the alarmists were making out there had any bearings, whatsoever. And, so, it was kind of a no-brainer to come to the conclusion.”

NewsBusters and the Media Research Center do a great job exposing liberal media bias. It takes courage to take on such a juggernaut, and what they do should be applauded. cmsinaz on July 6, 2014 at 8:42 AM

In reality, they all know that their best avenue of amending the constitution to their liking is to place liberal judges on the bench. A GOP Senate can slow that process and they know it. Thus I consider this disinformation. To preserve what is left of the founding fathers brilliant balance of powers and restraint on executive excess, a GOP Senate during Obama’s last two years is essential.

The current court would overrule an executive order declaring all people present in the US citizens with voting rights regardless of how they got here. A few more Obama judges and that will not be the case.

On Friday I had lunch with a group of people. One of the ladies
told us a story – the background: Her father is Irish and married
a woman from Mexico; they divorced years ago; the mother returned
to Mexico. She visits her mother several times a year and keeps
close contact via telephone.

This gal told us that her mother knows of many people getting on
buses to go across the border. When the bus reaches the border,
however, all the men are told to get off and stay in Mexico; the
women and children stay on the bus and are allowed to cross. Her
mom told her this a few weeks ago.

So, on top of the busloads of children coming from middle Latin
America, there are women and children from Mexico that are allowed
to cross in a bus.

The thought occurs to me that Obama is trying to bankrupt our system; all these women and children will be on welfare. Everything Obama does is designed to bankrupt this country; both
fiscally and morally. That is my opinion so don’t jump on me and
ask me where the proof is. “The proof is in the pudding” as my
grandmother used to say.

====================

The DACA Renewal Process: Everything You Need to Know
June 5 2014
***********

Today, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced the renewal process for hundreds of thousands of young noncitizens who received a grant of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Renewal of DACA ensures current DACA holders will continue to be safe from deportation for another two year period. In addition, they will continue to have work authorization and to be eligible to receive a social security number, and, in nearly every state, a driver’s license.

The renewal announcement comes not a moment too soon. Because DACA recipients are encouraged to request renewal between four to five months ahead of their expiration date to avoid a lapse, the earliest major wave of DACA recipients – who received their DACA grants in September and October of 2012 – will need to act right away. Although DACA recipients who seek to renew must complete multiple applications and submit to a background check, most will be pleased to discover that the renewal process is relatively straightforward and that most DACA recipients should qualify for renewal.

USCIS has made clear that individuals who initially qualified for DACA will be eligible to renew unless they engaged in certain criminal activity, departed the country without the government’s permission, or stopped residing in the United States. No one with DACA will be too old to renew – indeed, as previously explained, it is impossible to age-out of the DACA program. Moreover, individuals enrolled in school at the time of their initial application will not be disqualified if they had to stop attending to see to other life responsibilities.

To request renewal, DACA recipients will have to file an updated and slightly shorter version of the DACA application as well as two applications related to work authorization, pay a filing fee of $465 (unless exempt), and submit to a background check. Despite the paperwork, DACA recipients will find the renewal process easier than the initial application process when it comes to supporting evidence. Where initial requestors were required to produce a substantial amount of evidence demonstrating, among other things, their residence in the United States since June of 2007, many renewal requestors will not need to include any supporting documentation at all. Only those renewal requestors who received DACA from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), rather than USCIS, and those with new documents involving removal proceedings or criminal history that were not previously submitted, will be required to submit evidence along with their application.

Timing will be key for renewal requestors who don’t want their DACA to lapse. A lapse in DACA could result in a loss of work authorization and a driver’s license. To avoid these and other severe consequences, DACA recipients are encouraged to apply for renewal roughly four months before their expiration dates. This should give USCIS ample time to adjudicate the renewal request. And, according to USCIS, those who responsibly file far enough in advance of their expiration date may be given an automatic extension in the event of a processing delay.

Despite the excitement around renewal, the 1.15 million potential DACA applicants who have not yet filed an initial application should not mistakenly conclude that the application period has ended. Indeed, the agency continues to accept roughly 10,000 new applications each month. Moreover, neither the administration nor USCIS has ever indicated that DACA would sunset, though some members of Congress have attempted to defund the program. Initial registration remains open.

With the unveiling of the details surrounding the renewal process, there is cause to simultaneously celebrate the program’s longevity and gnash our teeth in frustration over Congress’s failure to create a permanent solution for these young people and for the country. Unless and until Congress passes immigration reform, the best option on the table for many young aspiring Americans may be DACA. But, as President Obama said when he announced the DACA program, “these kids deserve to plan their lives in more than two-year increments.”

while I see this as a really “smart” move by Obama, I still think the optics are horrible. How can we take care of these kids? And I love the towns saying the federal government needs to pick up the bill……Hey, dumbazz, the money still comes from the taxpayer! Doesn’t anyone in the media understand how this works? It’s run through non-profits like Southwest Key and religious advocacy groups,
Why do you think he wants $2 billion?

Southwest key made $124 million last year alone. They’ll double that this year. At the very least.

There is difinitive proof it was planned since at least January. You don’t advertize for “escorts” on a Fed website out of the clear blue sky.

So sorry, Franklin100. My wife had a chocolate lab who lived to be 16 that we had to put down a few years back. Going to hug my golden retriever now and remind him that I want him around for a good long time.

Easy to solve. Defund. Everything. No telling, of course, what horrible things they would do to get more money. Marxism requires an awful lot of it. Assuming there is any gold in Fort Knox we would have to guard it.

US company ‘signs $1.175b Iran bio-energy deal’
AFP
July 5, 2014, 9:19 pm
**********************

Tehran (AFP) – A US company has signed a preliminary agreement to invest $1.175 billion (864 million euros) in Iran, in a rare joint commercial project to turn rubbish and human waste into electricity.

California-based World Eco Energy told AFP it plans to produce 250 megawatts daily by burning trash and by processing algae and salt and waste water into power.

Iran will match the US investment, the company said.

A company spokesman said the project, in the southwestern province of Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari, would create 600-700 jobs, 80 percent of which would go to locals.

It is scheduled to start in September 2014 and is an early indication of the foreign business that may flow back to Iran if US, European and UN sanctions are lifted.

Iran is in the final phase of negotiating with world powers about a conclusive deal to resolve international concern about its nuclear programme.

Despite the uncertainty that clouds Iran’s economy, still shut out of the international financial system because of an embargo on banks and the energy sector, a more positive outlook is starting to prevail.

There is an email address on this site. Dumb idea. I emailed them and told them that they are engaging in illegal human trafficking and when this whole thing blows up they will be held partially responsible. We need to keep lists of organizations and government entities that are enabling this and hold them responsible.

That Daily Caller piece quotes FNC, but that PDF explains the differences.

In response to BFCS’s demand for a retraction, FoxNews on July 3, 2014 issued a written apology to BFCS for its error. At approximately 6:45 p.m. Eastern Time on July 2, FoxNews posted a corrected version of the opinion piece, accompanied by an “Editor’s Note” at the bottom stating: The contractor running the refugee camp at Lackland Air Force Base is “BCFS,” not “Baptist Family and Children’s Services” – as noted in a previous version of this story.

pambi on July 6, 2014 at 11:40 AM

Did anyone see David Gregory’s interview of Jeh Johnson on Meet The Press? He actually asked him questions like a Real Journalist. Johnson, of course, tried to slip and slide through the whole thing, but Gregory actually used the “D” word – deport – and used it like it could be a solution, not a racist cruelty. He even talked about the Murietta protesters in a sympathetic way.

Of course, when he went to his lib panel later, he was back to his koolaid-drunk ways. But it was fun for awhile. And it shows, I think, that this illegal invasion gets under the skin of not just conservatives.
