Poll: Public holds Obama responsible for border crisis, Iraq and the IRS scandal

posted at 1:31 pm on July 2, 2014 by Bruce McQuain

As the crisis at our southern border continues to stagger on, a recent IBD/TIPP poll found that a majority of Americans hold President Obama and his administration responsible for the problem:

The public largely blames President Obama for the flood of children who have poured over the border in recent weeks, creating a growing humanitarian crisis, according to the latest IBD/TIPP Poll released Monday.

[...]

The poll found that 59% of those closely following the immigration crisis agree that “current administration policies and lack of focus on securing the border” are behind the human tide of illegal crossings. Six in 10 say that the children should be ordered to leave the country. (The survey found that 73% of Americans are following this story closely.)

The responsibility for the border crisis is one Obama can’t duck or deny – it is a crisis of his own making.  His refusal to enforce the laws of the land and his permissive policies and rhetoric all but invited this to happen.  Now that it has, he’s “frustrated” with Congress – his personal candidate for being tossed under the blame bus, and is asking for 2 billion in emergency funds to address the crisis he created.  As you can see, most Americans aren’t buying the White House spin.

He doesn’t get a pass on Iraq either.  Per the poll, 56% believe his decision to withdraw troops in 2011 had a direct bearing on the crisis there today.

What’s more, 55% say that Obama wasn’t being honest when he claimed that Iraq Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki was entirely responsible for the decision to bring the troops home.

Meanwhile, 55% say that the administration’s failure to contain the Syria conflict contributed to the rise of the militant forces in Iraq. Just 27% give Obama high marks for his handling of the Iraq situation.

Finally, the IRS scandal is considered anything but a “phony scandal” by the public:

The IBD/TIPP poll found that 65% believe that the lost IRS emails are an attempt by the administration to “hide evidence that the IRS deliberately targeted conservative groups” prior to the 2012 presidential election.

The lost emails are the latest twist in a more than year-long saga that erupted when an inspector general report detailed how the IRS held up Tea Party groups’ applications for tax-exempt status before the 2012 elections.

[...]

Obama dismissed the IRS scandal earlier this year, saying there was not “even a smidgen of corruption.” Congressional Democrats argue that the IRS wasn’t singling out right-wing groups.

Those defenses aren’t flying with most Americans who’ve been tracking this story. Among independents, 66% think the lost emails were an attempt to cover up wrongdoing. Even 36% of Democrats say it was a cover-up.

These are three very hot topics that Americans are following  closely and a majority doesn’t believe the administration’s side of the story.  As Mr. Obama’s favorite preacher would say, it appears as if the Obama chickens “are coming home to roost”.

I don’t believe it. The hot story of the day is soccer: sport of pansies or kings? Is tying your hands behind your back a metaphor for blocking the Keystone XL pipeline? Are Americans’ attention spans too short to indulge in a truly nuanced game, like remembering votes from 6 months ago? Has scoring lost all meaning when a tie advances both parties in the playoffs, and no matter who ultimately wins, no individual will take credit for any screwups, but they still get their pension by God! Don’t worry, flopping over and playing butthurt will still work when the play-by-play announcers work for you, and the big donors are buying the commercials.

Doing that.

Colorado is an open carry state. Except where municipal ordinance bars it, one can carry/wear a firearm openly so long as you are not directly menacing others. Only Leftist cities have those ordinances. And we have “shall issue” concealed carry laws.

Last year, in the small town of Westcliffe, Colorado we had 500+ [even the Leftist media admitted that number] TEA Party and Conservatives marching under arms and American flags in the 4th of July Parade. Being a traditionalist, I carried my authentic, period Brown Bess musket of the type used in the 1770′s; with more modern firearms stashed in my car.

We were led by 6 elected County Sheriffs. The local Lefties threatened that the BATFE would arrest us all. In Colorado, the elected County Sheriff is the supreme law enforcement authority in the County. There is no state police outranking them. And unless martial law is declared, the Federales cannot operate in his county without approval. The Sheriff’s answer was that if the Feds came into his county, his deputies would escort them out and arrest them if they resisted. [I suspect that if necessary, there would have been the largest Sheriff's Posse in Colorado.]

We marched with no Federal interference.

Friday, we expect twice that number or more.

It takes time, work, and a lot of organization to put things like this together. Y’all want to stand up to the regime, start now.

54% of Americans say Obama ‘cannot lead and get the job done’

And, the old ‘Obstructionists!’ charge doesn’t seem to be working anymore either…

Rasmussen: Majority of Americans Want Obama to Work with Congress, Not ‘Go It Alone’ with ‘His Pen And His Phone’

55 percent of those surveyed think the government should do only what the president and Congress can agree on when it comes to important issues.

Just 35 percent of voters say Obama should take action on his own when Congress doesn’t cooperate, the survey finds.

Split along party lines, 58 percent of Democrats say Obama should act on his own, while 82 percent of Republicans oppose that, the poll finds.

The poll’s margin of error was plus or minus 3 percentage points.

And, what do Americans think of their ‘Constitutional Scholar’ chief executive?

44% of Americans believe that the 44th POTUS, Obama, is less faithful to the Constitution than previous presidents; the Moonbat Population of 22% thinks he’s been more faithful.

When it comes to executive actions he has taken in the White House, 44% of all voters think the president has been less faithful to the U.S. Constitution than most other presidents. Twenty-two percent (22%) feel Obama has been more faithful to the Constitution than most of his predecessors, while 30% say he has followed the Constitution about the same as other presidents have.

Fifty-seven percent (57%) think it is more important to preserve our constitutional system of checks and balances than it is for government to operate efficiently, down slightly from 60% a year ago. Thirty-five percent (35%) place more importance on government running efficiently, a seven-point increase from the previous survey.

Fifty-four percent (54%) of Democrats now think it is more important for government to operate efficiently, a 14-point jump from 40% last July. Essentially unchanged from the earlier survey are the 77% of GOP voters and 64% of unaffiliateds who believe it is more important to preserve our constitutional system of checks and balances.

Only 44%??? At least a plurality of Americans ‘believes the president has been less faithful to the Constitution than most of his predecessors in the White House’, but that drop in checks and balances v government efficiency is worrisome. That’s the Progressive Movement’s cri du coeur.

Been thinking it’s about time to wave it upside down.

The responsibility for the border crisis is one Obama can’t duck or deny

You seriously underestimate Obama.

A few years ago there was a business man here who did just that. It was all over the news. I can’t remember the name of the business or his name now.

Yeah, I thought about doing that too, I just don’t feel like having my house vandalized or set on fire on Friday.

As long as he’s still in the WH with his pen, phone and a slew of minions in his admin to do his bidding there is no ducking or denying anything. So he stands up and boldly taunts someone, anyone, to go ahead sue him already.

Yuppers, that Weepy lawsuit,SCOTUS decisions and public dissatisfaction is really gonna stop Obumbles in his tracks.

Just think, in another 6 weeks, the little diseased and infected tykes will be entering a school near you, sitting next to your kids.

Better check with your HOA too. Flying a US flag in any configuration might offend someone and be grounds for some stiff fines and seizure of your property. So just shut up already and submit.

A few years ago, the situation was bad, but maybe not to the “distressed” level. Seems different now.

leftamark on July 2, 2014 at 3:32 PM

Oh, I thought there was a point to this article.

antisense on July 2, 2014 at 2:05 PM

Just that Obama is corrupt, dishonest, ignorant, and incompetent, and more and more people are realizing it every day.

Monkeytoe on July 2, 2014 at 2:08 PM

I don’t generally condone liberal behavior, but in this particular case, it’s like the broken clock syndrome: they are correct twice a day. Antisense is exactly right, what is the point? The 2012 election is over, and we lost it as a country.

I enjoy reading about this jacka$$es screw-ups just as much as the next person, and I may or may not be acquiring certain non-perishable items for “the bunker”, but honestly he’s right.

We have a president who has, from almost day one, violated the oath of his office and trampled on the Constitution. The democrats in congress protect him because that (D) is more important than the Country.

As for the republicans, they are more worthless in my eyes. How many years now have we been told “we just need a few more (R)’s in office and then we will fix this mess? 6 years? Do you honestly expect Mitch McConnel, John McCain (remember the Gang of Eight?), Lindsay Graham, Thad Cochran, Kevin McCarthy, John Boehner et al., to fix this??? Please. IF we even win the senate this year, McConnell will once again “restore order” and allow the (D)’s to dictate the Senate. And still, those establishment types will denigrate those conservatives who manage to win elections and get to Congress, and relegate them to back bench positions.

The American Citizenry have been long since discarded by those in power as “useful idiots” and until we make that point invalid, nothing will change.

So…these articles, while good for the soul, accomplish nothing. Most of us knew this information 7 and 8 years ago. The guy is an absolute piece of garbage and everything he has done was with the intent to harm this Country. We knew it and did not stop it. Twice.

USNCVN on July 2, 2014 at 3:34 PM

Oh, and I forgot to add, if you seriously believe that based on the polls, the recent news articles and a (R) win in November, that this bum will be 1) Impeached and 2) voted out by the Senate, and 3) the MSM agrees with 1 and 2, I’ve got some lovely beach front property in Nebraska to sell you.

It is so scary how just a few years ago the federal gov’t allowed thousands of guns to ‘walk’ into the hands of the Sinaloa drug cartel. Now we have this situation on the border where local law enforcement is totally overwhelmed, and the door is wide open for these same, heavily armed, well financed, and violent cartel members to stroll into the US.

bitsy on July 2, 2014 at 3:47 PM

Imagine what those numbers would be if there wasn’t a corrupt, mendacious, ideology-driven, ethically challenged media shilling for Barack Obama and the policies of progressive-fascism.

Sad isn’t it. If only the 4th estate wasn’t acting as the 5th column.

Not to mention any terrorist group member that wants to. That’s the scary part that no one wants to even think about let alone speak about.
