Immigration advocates to Obama: Go big on amnesty

posted at 6:21 pm on July 2, 2014 by Allahpundit

You know the saying: Go big or go home. And we all know they’re not going home.

How does “unilateral legalization for all illegals” grab you?

[I]n the wake of Obama’s Monday Rose Garden speech vowing unilateral action, some reformers want the president to go far beyond a limited expansion of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, to essentially legalize the millions of undocumented immigrants who would be eligible for work permits under the bill passed by the Senate last summer.

“The administration has unquestionable legal authority to provide all those who would qualify for citizenship under the bipartisan Senate Bill affirmative status with work authorization while making immigration enforcement more just,” Richard Trumka, head of the AFL-CIO said Tuesday in a statement. “The administration should act boldly and without further delay.”…

[R]ecommendations include not only a broad expansion of DACA to include older immigrants, but also efforts to allow illegal immigrants enrolled in DACA to enlist in the military; to bar local governments from enforcing immigration law; and to permit more undocumented relatives of U.S. military members and veterans to remain in the country while they seek green cards.

In other words, he’s going to unilaterally enact a Senate bill that didn’t pass the House. But not the whole bill: It’d be bad enough as an affront to separation of powers if he snapped his fingers and declared the Gang of Eight’s plan de facto law, but at least you’d get some extra border security out of that. What liberals want is for him to ignore the security provisions in the GoE plan, which Republicans favor, and implement only the legalization stuff supported by Democrats. If he does that, he’ll have set the following precedent: When the president’s party offers its opponents a bad compromise with token concessions, the opposition can either swallow hard and accept or watch as the president yanks the concessions and implements the stuff his side wants anyway. Either you take what Democrats give you or you get nothing, by His Majesty’s command. It’s an offer you can’t refuse. If he tries that and gets away with it, after spending the past year warning amnesty fans that there’s only so much he can do on his own and that this is ultimately a job for Congress, it’s the end of legislative independence. And of course, Democratic legislators like Steny Hoyer and Bob Menendez are perfectly happy about it. For now.

How would he go about legalizing people through executive action? BuzzFeed has a hint:

Chief among the executive actions would be an expansion of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), beyond undocumented youth known as DREAMers who received it initially, for undocumented immigrants who are low-priority American workers and those who would benefit from the Senate’s immigration reform bill.

The memo also calls for an expansion of “parole in place” to more undocumented immigrants, which would temporarily protect them from removal and provide them the ability to work in the country. The lawmakers give the example of a deferred action recipient who marries a U.S. citizen and doesn’t have to leave the country to apply for a green card.

Is it temporary, though? Which candidates in the 2016 GOP field would risk alienating Latinos right out of the chute as president by rescinding Obama’s “temporary” legalization and reinstating deportations? Not even President Cruz would want to risk having his first year or two in office sidetracked with a political war over immigration when he’s busy trying to put his broader agenda in place. The best-case scenario if Obama institutes a “temporary” mass amnesty is that it’d encourage his Republican successor to strike a deal quickly with Congress on comprehensive reform once in office. Once Congress has formally ratified the idea of legalization, then the president could lift O’s order secure in the knowledge that he’d merely be sharing blame with the legislature going forward. The only question mark here, if/when Obama finally makes his move, is the timing. Does he do it this year, when the effect at the polls might be muted (or even backfire by inflaming righties), or does he wait until next year with an eye to helping Democrats with Latino turnout in 2016? Will his base even let him wait at this point?

Here’s Luis Gutierrez, who thought hard about all this and concluded that “the antidote for do-nothingism is doing something,” looking ahead to how our secular pope might “heal” the nation by taking a dump on separation of powers. Exit question: If Obama had the power to grant mass amnesties all along, why’d he seek congressional authorization in the first place? In theory he wants legislation instead of an executive order because an order can be rescinded by the next president whereas legislation can’t be, but in practice that doesn’t really make sense. For one thing, given the precedents Obama’s set in ignoring parts of ObamaCare, legislation isn’t nearly as binding as it used to be — even on the guy who signed it into law. Also, it can’t be that whether an action taken by the president is appropriate or not depends on how temporary it is. If O issued an executive order nationalizing the banks for the rest of his term, the fact that President Cruz could lift it in 2017 doesn’t mean it’s copacetic now. Presumably, Obama went to Congress on amnesty in the first place not because he preferred to but because he thought, correctly, that wholesale rewrites of America’s immigration policy must be done by the legislature. He seems to have changed his mind at some point. How come?

The land is invaded and diseases spread, while the brown shirts prohibit the congressman in Oklahoma to visit the illegal youth camp, and the doctors are forbidden to talk about the diseased.

God love America!

Celebrate the 4th by protesting on the streets.

The republicans aren’t completely stupid. All the threats and cajoling haven’t gotten to cave, yet.

From the trenches, I hear people are getting really mad about this.

The silent majority will speak in November.

Unless congress critters have the cajones to have town halls this fall. Then they will get an earful.

The best-case scenario if Obama institutes a “temporary” mass amnesty is that it’d encourage his Republican successor to strike a deal quickly with Congress on comprehensive reform once in office.

It’s a given that the next Republican President is going to have to be as bold and audacious during his first months in office as Obama has been in recent months. And without any immediate prospect of statutory backing provided by the Legislature.

There’s probably not a single Obama EO that could be rescinded by the next President that won’t raise a clamor– chaos! innocent parties unfairly affected! hey, that’s MY ox being un-gored!– from one aggrieved constituency or another.

But if President Cruz or President Somebody doesn’t do this shortly upon taking office, he’s going to be ground down by the effects of the EOs themselves, the inability of the Congress to do anything decisive anymore, and, at some point, by the courts, while he tries to “ameliorate” the worst effects of the EOs and pursue his own agenda at the same time.

The only solution to the Gordian knot is slice through it. Live by the phone and pen, die by the phone and pen. Clean slate. Start over. The simple response to the howls: “I won.” Or, “elections have consequences.” They’ll know what that means.

Of course, that’s not to say that the guy who takes him out of office– likely someone from the military, which Obama only nominally controls– wouldn’t declare himself “president for the duration,” but we’re deep in fantasy scenarios now and anything can happen. Anything and everything will happen if Obama has the megalomaniacal temerity to cancel elections which proceeded even during the darkest days of the last U.S. civil war.

The Worst:

a new Quinnipiac poll shows that the American people now see a president who rode into office on a wave of hope and change as the worst president since World War II.

Adding insult to injury, in hindsight, only 38% of voters believe Obama is doing a better job than his 2012 Republican rival Mitt Romney would have. A plurality of 45% believe Romney would be doing a better job than Obama.

When asked who the worst president is since WWII, Barack Obama came in first with 33%. George W. Bush came in second with 28%.
Only 37% of voters believe Obama has been better for the economy than Bush. A slightly smaller number, 34%, believe Bush was better than Obama.

On the overall question of whether Obama has been a better president than Bush, Obama loses 39% to 40%.
These numbers are truly stunning when you realize that the media did everything in its power to destroy Bush, and has subsequently done everything in its power to protect, defend, and give Obama the benefit of the doubt

A full 54% of voters believe the Obama Administration is not competent at doing their primary job: running the government. Only 44% disagree.

On overall job approval, Obama is upside down by 13 points. Only 40% approve, while 53% disapprove. Since April, that’s a 5 point shift in the wrong direction for the president.
On his handling of the economy, Obama is upside down a full 15 points, 40-55%.

On foreign policy, a bright spot for most of his presidency, Obama is in the negative a full 20 points, 37-57%.
Health care is almost as bad with only 40% approving, 58% disapproving.

The winner of America’s best president since World War II is Ronald Reagan, who beat second and third place combined. A full 35% of voters chose Reagan. Bill Clinton and John Kennedy won 18% and 15%, respectively. Obama only received 8% in the best presidents poll……….

A bad leader.

He hired bad staff.

They dislike U.S. all.

They guide these new ones from S. America to your camps, your homes, to your wife and kids.

They are allowed to come amoung U.S. bugs and germs and do so under the control of the Mexican Drug Cartel operations of the likes of the Zetas, (who burn people alive inside stacks of car tires, they be-head people, they use mass graves, they hang people from bridges) and many who come inside this wave are even worse, Islamics who speak and act Mexican.

You can see the history of how unlimited illegal immigration from across the Rio Grande ends. Just ask the Apache Nation how the end came.

You are the new Apache, they come for your land, your gold, your jobs, your homes, your freedom, and the one who called them to action sits in Washington D.C. with you paying for his security and the upkeep on his fences.

The Apache fought 400 years and still lost.

Will you (we) fight at all is the question now.

November is the time, the place and it comes now.

The Republicans still say no to impeachment after he does something like that then there really is no hope for them.

If he does that, he’ll have set the following precedent: When the president’s party offers its opponents a bad compromise with token concessions, the opposition can either swallow hard and accept or watch as the president yanks the concessions and implements the stuff his side wants anyway.

Don’t be ridiculous in thinking it’s anything but a precedent for Democrat Presidents… no Republican actually has the sack to fight fire with fire.

Piss off the Catholics. Yeah. that’s work:

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the self-proclaimed leader of the ‘Islamic State’ stretching across Iraq and Syria, has vowed to lead the conquest of Rome as he called on Muslims to immigrate to his new land to fight under its banner around the globe.

Baghdadi, who holds a PhD in Islamic studies, said Muslims were being targetted and killed from China to Indonesia. Speaking as the first Caliph, or commander of the Islamic faithful since the dissolution of the Ottoman empire, he called on Muslims to rally to his pan-Islamic state.

“Those who can immigrate to the Islamic State should immigrate, as immigration to the house of Islam is a duty,” he said in an audio recording released on a website used by the group formerly known as the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham.

“Rush O Muslims to your state. It is your state. Syria is not for Syrians and Iraq is not for Iraqis. The land is for the Muslims, all Muslims.

“This is my advice to you. If you hold to it you will conquer Rome and own the world, if Allah wills.”

What is toal crazy is the blacks allowing Obama to take the last jobs they had and hand them to these illegals and still expect their votes at a 90% click.

Heck the way things are going it will be a shoot out down at the unemployment check line between blacks and browns with the few whites staying home to keep from getting shot in the cross fire.

Obama is giving the blacks the finger in public and he seems to not even care one bit about them at all.

Dolce Far Niente on July 2, 2014 at 7:09 PM

We’re talking about the United States of America, which held elections right through Civil War. Of course the Confederate States of America didn’t participate in another nation’s elections.

Which does suggest another possible scenario of reaction to Obama’s self-proclaimed “Presidency for Life.” It was precisely their inability to accept Lincoln as president that precipitated the secession of southern states from the union. Obama wouldn’t have the military backing or the manpower to prevent that from happening again. Not just in the south this time, but all over.

Pulling back the curtain:

In fact, in smoking-gun audio that received almost no media exposure, a former immigration adviser to President Obama once boasted granting citizenship to millions of illegal aliens would expand the “progressive” electorate and help ensure a “progressive” governing coalition for the long term.

The admission was made by Eliseo Medina, current secretary-treasurer of the Service Employees International Union, or SEIU.

Medina was speaking at a June 2009 Washington conference for the liberal America’s Future Now!

“We reform the immigration laws, it puts 12 million people on the path to citizenship and eventually voters,” stated Medina, then the SEIU’s international executive vice-president.

You can scream all you want. The fact remains, amnesty hasn’t passed, and lack of republican votes is the reason why.

cozmo

Which doesn’t mean they don’t want to do it. If they were truly against it, everyone would know and there would be no fear of them finally going through with it, the same way everyone knows Obama and the dems are all for it.

So yeah, on the good side, they haven’t passed it yet. The bad side is they refuse to rule it out and instead choose to keep the door open, which means it’s likely going to happen if Obama doesn’t do it. Frankly, I suspect they would love Obama to act unilaterally, mistakenly believing that would let them off the hook.
