GOP Rep. denied access to facility housing unaccompanied migrant children

posted at 9:01 pm on July 2, 2014 by Noah Rothman

On Wednesday, Rep. Jim Bridenstine (R-OK) sent out a press release chronicling his recent trip to a facility maintained by the department of Health and Human Services established to house up to 1,200 unaccompanied alien children (UAC) who crossed the southern border illegally. Bridenstine’s trip was a short one, however, as the congressman was denied access to the facility by an HHS official.

Bridenstine asserted that he attempted to contact Ken Wolfe, HHS’s deputy director of the office of public affairs, in order to express his frustration over being denied access to Ft. Sill, a facility in the congressman’s district. Wolfe reportedly did not take Bridenstine’s call, but he was advised to contact the office via email.

“After my visit today with the base commander, I approached the barracks where the children are housed. A new fence has been erected by HHS, completely surrounding the barracks and covered with material to totally obscure the view,” Bridenstine said in a statement (via @Sqwerin). “Every gate is chained closed.”

jim_b

“I approached a security guard and asked to speak with the manager of the facility. The guard called his supervisor who said no visitors were allowed. I asked if they were aware that I am a Member of Congress. Eventually the manager came out and said that I would have to go through HHS legislative affairs and that the first chance to visit would be July 21st.

“What are they trying to hide? Do they not want the children to speak with Members of Congress? As a Navy pilot, I have been involved in operations countering illicit human trafficking. I would like to know to whom these children are being released.”

Wolfe later told reporters with The Hill that HHS has given lawmakers tours of their facilities in the past and would do so for Bridenstine:

HHS said it conducts tours as much as possible and has given 55 tours of three facilities so far to elected officials. According to the department, it would continue to schedule tours for “any officials who request them.”

Ft. Sill is one of three facilities established to house an influx of illegal immigrant children flooding the U.S.-Mexico border. Nearly two-thirds of the 52,000 UACs apprehended by authorities this year come from Central American countries.

President Barack Obama has asked Congress for an additional authority and $2 billion to facilitate the screening and deportation process for this inflow of illegal immigrants.

Why the he-ll didn’t he just push through? What a wimp! This whole thing was nothing more than a photo op for Bridenstine.

Anyone remember the Congressman from San Francisco who took his job so seriously that he went down to Gyana to check on his constituents (People’s Temple) and was murdered for his trouble?

And our Congressmen here are being turned away from Federal territory in their own states and what? Whine? He should return tomorrow with an order from a judge and / or get himself arrested or handcuffed or manhandled or SOMETHING to show just how far this dirty adminstration will go.

Call one or more of the UN human rights NGOs, such as Amnesty International. Challenge them to go in and check on the condition, etc., of the “detainees”.

If they do, and don’t report honestly, or if they just refuse to because they’re on The One’s side (in “fundamentally transforming America”), everyone will know.

If they do, and properly pitch a b!tch over this, you’ll have an NGO with impeccable left-wing credentials confronting their own Teleprompter Messiah.

Either way, progressives’ heads explode.

The standoff came after Mayor Alan Long urged residents to complain to elected officials about the plan to transfer the Central American migrants to California to ease overcrowding of facilities along the Texas-Mexico border.

Border Patrol Agent Ron Zermeno says he thinks the illegal crossings will continue because undocumented immigrants aren’t being immediately deported.

This is just one more crime by Barky’s junta that the House should be all over with impeachments of various lowlifes … but the Vichy GOP is in with Barky and his junta on the treason of giving aid and comfort to invading illegals and trying to drown us in a tsunami of these illegal aliens.

There are many, many orange jumpsuits that need to be fitted for DC D-bags. And all of these illegals need to be turned around and dumped right back in Mexico, where they came from. It’s Mexico’s problem. It’s not our responsibility to provide an escort to whatever country these illegals say they are citizens of. They traveled all the way through Mexico and came in from Mexico and back to Mexico they should go. Unceremoniously dumped at the border and recorded (as much as possible) who they are so that they can never enter here on any visa or anything ever again.

When I was growing up in Lawton (the city Ft. Sill borders) we had Vietnamese boat refugees sent to the area.

They were given government housing and government jobs. While many of the refugees became model citizens, a spike in crime and the destruction of the government housing (removing indoor plumbing, gutting walls inside the houses, etc.) left a bad taste in a lot of people’s mouths. (Not to mention the spike in neighborhood dogs and cats going missing)

Hopefully the city of Lawton will push back against the military this time and not repeat the mistakes of the 70′s and 80′s.

Unfortunately, if not for Ft. Sill, Lawton would dry up and blow away. So I’m sure they will make the same mistake.

These kids are not so much immigrants as refugees who somehow had to make it here by crossing the treacherous terrain of Mexico, a harrowing journey of a thousand miles or more. If this country had an immigration policy that gave priority to those who had shown the personal wherewithal to succeed and contribute in this country we would find a way to keep these hearty and obviously capable kids. Remember how well the Vietnamese boat people have done in America, their mettle having been severely tested by their arduous journey here after the fall of Saigon in 1975.

After all, if a bunch of lawbreakers walked 1000 miles to break into Hume’s house and demand whatever they want, I seriously doubt he’d say “Wow, you really walked a thousand miles to break into my house? Well you are exactly the type of person I want to live here with me.

Mark Levin had Jim Bridenstine on his show tonight. It sounds like Beidrnstine will continue trying to get into the Ft. Sill immigrant complex.

bw222 on July 2, 2014 at 9:41 PM

As Brit Hume says, if these people can walk 1000 miles to get here, these are the people we need to keep in this country………

d1carter on July 2, 2014 at 9:16 PM

Hume takes his marching orders from Rupert Murdoch who owns Fox News. Murdoch loves illegals and open borders. Brit’s been off the reservation for a little while now. And something tells me all these future Democrat voters didn’t hike 1,000 miles across Mexico. It’s more Obama’s version of the Berlin airlift. It’s all orchestrated.

He should borrow those protestors from CA as backup. They seemed to get results.

Try again tomorrow with 3 camera crews and get in or get arrested.

ROCnPhilly on July 2, 2014 at 9:43 PM

“After my visit today with the base commander, I approached the barracks where the children are housed. A new fence has been erected by HHS, completely surrounding the barracks and covered with material to totally obscure the view,” Bridenstine said in a statement (via @Sqwerin). “Every gate is chained closed.”

Aren’t there any News Crews in the area who could put video cameras on helicopters, drones, or even a tall stick to get some pictures from above?

Think creatively people!

Don’t let a little thing like a fence stop you!

Too bad the U.S. Border isn’t as secure as this facility appears to be!!!

IMPEACH!

And it will go to groups like southwest key.

They made $124 million last year.

Their Website looks eerily familiar To the ObamaCare websites.

wolly4321 on July 2, 2014 at 9:44 PM

Brit Hume works for Rupert Murdoch who is strong pro-amnesty. When you make a couple million a year for working a couple of hours a week, like Brit does, I’m sure he’d the Lions and Browns are his Super Bowl picks if Murdoch told him to.

bw222 on July 2, 2014 at 9:45 PM

Fast and Furious 2.0, giving Obama all the justification he needs to do amnesty on his own. And all it took was drones dropping boxes full of fliers throughout Mexico and Central America.

Meople on July 2, 2014 at 9:39 PM

Yep. Officially, it’s called “Too Fast, Too Furious“.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair on July 2, 2014 at 9:45 PM

Wow, good thing we didn’t rely on people like this Congressman
to storm the beaches of Normandy…

absolutely F*cking Pathetic…

Here ya go Congressman, another bit of sand kicked in your face
from HHS.

ToddPA on July 2, 2014 at 9:46 PM

Come back with a couple of US Marshals.

That brown shirt has no authority to do this.

Time to start impeaching people – Choom, Joe, ValJar (whatever it is she does), Holder, Hagel, DHS (what the Hell kind of name is Jeh, anyway?), HHS (and, yes, drag Syphilis’ scrawny ass back from KS and arrest her), Pelosi, Dingy Harry, Schumer, Rubio, Boehner.

I think I’ll refrain from commenting on Brit Hume. I like the guy… when he talks I usually listen.. same with Krauthammer.

If these two tow the line for the Oministration? I’m done.

Key West Reader on July 2, 2014 at 9:36 PM

I was referencing the idiocy of Hume suggesting that the invaders had actually “walked” a 1000 miles to get to the border. They are being transported by many methods, surely not walking.

My reference to Ethiopia was to point out an actual place where refugees do in fact walk in convoys for mile upon mile to get the heck out of a country.

Heh, fifty old WWII vets storming the gate in wheelchairs and walkers escorting a couple of congressmen and senators in would be one hell of an optic. Oldnuke on July 2, 2014 at 9:38 PM

It’s not an open area Memorial with a few barricades.

It’s Fort Sills.

Walter L. Newton on July 2, 2014 at 9:49 PM

PS If we had a real press, someone would be asking, “what are they hiding in there?”.

Remember when Donaldson and Plante would scream questions at Reagan in the name of “the public’s right to know”?

I guess we don’t have that right anymore.

Or one hell of a massacre. This administration is just waiting for someone, anyone, a group or whatever, to try and get too pushy.

Walter L. Newton on July 2, 2014 at 9:50 PM

5 year old aliens can break into this country but a sitting Congressman can’t get into a military base that’s being illegally used to support the alien invasion.

Okey doke. Benedict Arnold is laughing up a storm.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair on July 2, 2014 at 9:51 PM

Let’s not forget that it was amnesty loving George W. that passed the law letting illegal immigrant children be turned over to HHS instead of being deported. He did it first in the 2002 Homeland Security Act. Then, he expanded those rights, protections, and entitlements with the Unaccompanied Alien Child Protection Act and expanded them yet again at the very end of his presidency (December 23, 2008) when no one would notice, as he signed the 2008 Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (full name: “the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act to combat Human Trafficking”), which mandated that illegal alien kids (particularly the OTMs) be transferred to HHS’ Office of Refugee Resettlement within 24 hours of setting foot on U.S. soil or as soon as reasonably possible.

TxAnn56 on July 2, 2014 at 9:51 PM

Put on some dirty old clothes, stuff some oranges in a plastic bag, wear some flip-flops, and tell them you’re Juan Rodrigo; you’ll be inside in a Tijuana minute.

Bishop on July 2, 2014 at 9:52 PM

Can’t you just hear them scream “we have to contain all of the diseases from the precious American public !”
“Oh, wazzat ? We did what ? We threatened medical personnel with jail time if they spoke of the medical emergency we have here ??? What excuse is it, today ?”

What a cr@pload of fascists running this once-great nation.
