GOP Rep. denied access to facility housing unaccompanied migrant children

posted at 9:01 pm on July 2, 2014 by Noah Rothman

On Wednesday, Rep. Jim Bridenstine (R-OK) sent out a press release chronicling his recent trip to a facility maintained by the department of Health and Human Services established to house up to 1,200 unaccompanied alien children (UAC) who crossed the southern border illegally. Bridenstine’s trip was a short one, however, as the congressman was denied access to the facility by an HHS official.

Bridenstine asserted that he attempted to contact Ken Wolfe, HHS’s deputy director of the office of public affairs, in order to express his frustration over being denied access to Ft. Sill, a facility in the congressman’s district. Wolfe reportedly did not take Bridenstine’s call, but he was advised to contact the office via email.

“After my visit today with the base commander, I approached the barracks where the children are housed. A new fence has been erected by HHS, completely surrounding the barracks and covered with material to totally obscure the view,” Bridenstine said in a statement (via @Sqwerin). “Every gate is chained closed.”

jim_b

“I approached a security guard and asked to speak with the manager of the facility. The guard called his supervisor who said no visitors were allowed. I asked if they were aware that I am a Member of Congress. Eventually the manager came out and said that I would have to go through HHS legislative affairs and that the first chance to visit would be July 21st.

“What are they trying to hide? Do they not want the children to speak with Members of Congress? As a Navy pilot, I have been involved in operations countering illicit human trafficking. I would like to know to whom these children are being released.”

Wolfe later told reporters with The Hill that HHS has given lawmakers tours of their facilities in the past and would do so for Bridenstine:

HHS said it conducts tours as much as possible and has given 55 tours of three facilities so far to elected officials. According to the department, it would continue to schedule tours for “any officials who request them.”

Ft. Sill is one of three facilities established to house an influx of illegal immigrant children flooding the U.S.-Mexico border. Nearly two-thirds of the 52,000 UACs apprehended by authorities this year come from Central American countries.

President Barack Obama has asked Congress for an additional authority and $2 billion to facilitate the screening and deportation process for this inflow of illegal immigrants.

President “constitutional expert” Obama knew t his was coming because, as inept as this administration is, they could never accomplish this without a lot of prior planning. Now, I have one question, since the Constitutional Law Professor is unable to work with the legislative branch, where is the money coming from? Other Presidents would have been requesting funding months ago and providing some accounting as to where the money was going to go.

This President spends a ton of money doing things but I don’t see him asking for appropriations. Why is that?

Britt is a koolaid drinking amnesty shill. For one, they aren’t walking. They’re riding in buses, on trains, and in cars and trucks.

Two, if he’s going argue that these are the most ambitious of their countrymen, then these are exactly the people who need to be sent back, because these are the kind of folks who are going to fight to improve conditions in their own countries.

By draining these countries of their brightest and most ambitious, we sentence those countries to a lifetime of poverty, and we harm ourselves as well. The only way to make these countries better places is by encouraging folks like these to stay home and work to make their homes a better place.

Albany, New York – More ILLEGALS coming your way!

Time to call the good people of Murietta CA for protest tips.

According to Paul Tonko, the Department of Health and Human Service is looking at many places across the country to house the children that cross the border without adults. There are a few places benig reviewed to house the children One of which, is the old Doane Stuart School building, located on Southern Boulevard in Albany.

[....]

“Initial reaction is that these children are escaping violence because of humanitarian efforts of this nation which I think has been our hallmark, to be humanitarian in response to, in this case, children,” said Tonko.

[....]

Tonko says other sites in New York State are also being investigated. However, he stresses funding will come from the federal level and not come from the state. [Yeh right! No cost to the state!---ed]

I was referencing the idiocy of Hume suggesting that the invaders had actually “walked” a 1000 miles to get to the border. They are being transported by many methods, surely not walking.

My reference to Ethiopia was to point out an actual place where refugees do in fact walk in convoys for mile upon mile to get the heck out of a country.

Which reminds me, I heard a reporter on the radio today reporting on the arriving illegal aliens. He said that when they crossed into Mexicon on their Southern border they were given “transit visas” by the Mexican government. That means a visa good for just passing through, not staying.

Good point. This is where the Harry Read “ We don’t need no stinking Budget” comes in to play. The Government spending plan is laced with no bid contracts, bottomless money holes and slush funds. This is where this money comes from. It’s a major major nightmare that no one wants to get into.

On impeachment. There are many different ways to remove the President from office, impeachment is only one of them. Keep in mind the rules of impeachment were designed, NOT to remove a wrong doer but to protect him from being removed. I would suggest that IF “We The People” wish to remove Obama , then they give up on the impeachment idea and follow any or all of the other options.

The times, they are a coming and the road is going to be hard BUT if we all stay on track and not be distracted by the men behind the curtains we can still make this all work out. It’s going to be purge and take no prisoners

Remember Obama saying on the 2008 campaign trail: “We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

These agencies are his civilian national security force. They’re why he needs all that ammo.

Mollyzin on July 3, 2014 at 1:29 AM

They aren’t just being dispersed by bus, they are being flown all over the USA. Often they are just given a free ticket and driven to the airport and seen through the security checks by ICE and DHS, however they are actually chartering aircraft to disperse them all over the country. “At least six commercial, agency-owned charter flights have transported detainees to the Boston area” and Flights have gone to New York city, Florida and elsewhere.
It couldn’t be more obvious why they are doing this, it’s to make the illegals untraceable and unrecoverable.
Damn this administration and anyone who helped them come to power.

V7_Sport on July 3, 2014 at 1:53 AM

Here is my fix of this sh*tty problem that the communist in chief and his minions wrought: They have two choices…leave, or be put up for adoption and their relatives renounce their claim on the children as dependents.

Americans adopt the children, and they actually become American, and the third world stops sending us their neglected and abused children as a fishhook to get themselves into the country.

Families who want to adopt have to show the means to support them.

Done and done. That or a plane ticket and good riddance. Effing compassion. These parents are bastages. Rotten to the core. They did this to these children, on the slimebeast vehicle of the Democrat party.

winoceros on July 3, 2014 at 2:12 AM

President Barack Obama has asked Congress for an additional authority and $2 billion to facilitate the screening and deportation process for this inflow of illegal immigrants.

Filter that through the precedents: “a penalty is not a tax, oh yes, I guess it is” and “federal is not state, oh yes, I guess it is” — “deportation is not distribution throughout America, oh yes, I guess it is”.

HHS said it conducts tours as much as possible and has given 55 tours of three facilities so far to elected officials. According to the department, it would continue to schedule tours for “any officials who request them.”

Do the words “Potemkin village” ring any bells?

“What are they trying to hide?

Diseases, apparently, since the HHS ordered medical personnel to keep their mouths closed about what they have seen.

Do they not want the children to speak with Republican Members of Congress?

FIFY

As a Navy pilot,

.. then you know that planned inspections have their place, but unplanned ones uncover the rotten eggs.

I have been involved in operations countering illicit human trafficking. I would like to know to whom these children are being released.”

What, you don’t trust that HHS is actually releasing them to real family members? IF they have that much documentation, then they aren’t exactly “undocumented” “soon-to-be-citizens” who are “hiding in the shadows” are they?

FWIW, I am glad for any individual children (not gang members) who might have the chance to grow up here, as I would be glad for any refugees from a war-zone to make it to the USA. However, the way in which this entire “crisis” has been set up and exploited (a scam worthy of the masters) is entirely unacceptable.

There are any number of rational ways to reform our immigration system to provide orderly and fair ingress by non-nationals, but none of those are being implemented.

One Cameron County rancher said smugglers ordered him to look the other way or face the consequences.

The landowner said smugglers are using trails on his property to bring illegal immigrants into the country.

The rancher said he fears for his safety.

“You don’t see anything; you don’t talk to anybody,” he said.

He said smugglers stop at nothing to get the immigrants across.

“They have no problem doing whatever it takes to protect them and their organization,” he said.

The rights of smugglers trump the rights of our citizens…what a shame.

King of the Britons on July 3, 2014 at 9:04 AM

Is anybody watching out for those kids? Would anyone outside HHS know if several dozen simply disappeared?

Healthy young kids can bring a high price on the international sex slave market these days. Maybe Obama has found a way to raise some additional discretionary funds.

Or maybe all this is just an innocent misunderstanding. But if you have to have an appointment and be ‘given a tour’ the question remains: ‘What are they trying to hide?”. If a tour has to be scheduled in advance it would give plenty of time for the staff to clean up the blood and vomit and other bodily fluids. Any evidence of abuse can be covered up given sufficient warning.

s1im on July 3, 2014 at 9:06 AM

This is all part of the effort by the regime to crash the whole system. It kills two birds with one stone. First it breaks the back of an already straining immigration system. Second, it creates a healthcare crisis to overburden that system.

0bama will be satisfied with nothing less than violence in the streets of every city. Lawlessness and violence are what “community organizers” feed on.

http://www.america.aljazeera.com/watch/shows/al-jazeera-america-presents-borderland.html

Three shows back in April, filmed ?
It does have the film now being used by others showing the illegals riding the tops of freight trains starting in far, far south Mexico.
Shows the over night shelters, shows the illegals getting off and on the trains, shows the numbers on each train, shows the whole sick
well planned out deal.

Drudge needs to put this up,

even if it is Al Jazeera TV they at least have film of it all.

Let’s look on the bright side. There is still a place in this country where our government is capable of keeping people out.

CJ on July 3, 2014 at 10:33 AM

Wonder what would happen if some enterprising private citizen picked up several bus loads of these children and dropped them off in front of the White House? Wouldn’t cost that much and could probably be easily arranged.

Oldnuke on July 3, 2014 at 10:53 AM

I don’t think they’ll shoot a congressman.

Oldnuke on July 2, 2014 at 9:40 PM

Yeah, I’m sure their automatic weapons are just for show.

Oldnuke on July 3, 2014 at 10:53 AM

It ain’t exactly down the street. You’re talking a few days on the road. Which makes me wonder who’s bankrolling all the bus trips to California we’re hearing about.

CurtZHP on July 3, 2014 at 11:05 AM

Coming to a city near you, although we already have about a million too many. I guess they’re using planes now so people won’t be able to barricade a runway.

HOUSTON –
The Mayor’s office has confirmed that undocumented children will be arriving at Bush Intercontinental Airport today.

TxAnn56 on July 3, 2014 at 11:11 AM

They fence them in our Country better than keeping them out of it.

The Rep needs to go back with a bag of his own hardened locks, leaving the keys in a safety deposit box that only he knows and has access to. Put his locks on the gates above the HHS locks. When they remove theirs, he removes his.

Second alternative, the CO of Ft. Sill takes over, arrests the HHS guards as the traitors/seditionists they are and immediately repatriates the enemy invaders via cargo planes. That would be doing his duty and upholding his oath, instead of “Just following Orders!”

First part of your plan works until the HHS gestapo finds a cutting torch.

Second part works unless the CO has already been screened as being friendly to the current regime.

Which is highly likely. Remember all those high level military officers that got shifted around over the last few years? These sites were not randomly picked. This whole thing has been way too organized for something spontaneous. Feces headed toward the fan at an accelerating rate.

:-) Should have said that it wouldn’t cost that much if the citizen were a billionaire. Like the Koch bros. Who’s bankrolling the transports now is easy. You and me bro, you and me and all the other US taxpayers.

Oldnuke on July 3, 2014 at 11:58 AM

How disappointing. A U.S. Congressman goes to the facility and is not allowed in. Then he leaves and cries to the press about it. He should have just stayed home. Hell, I could go there and be told I’m not allowed in. A Congressman with a heart for the people of this country, not to mention his own constituents, should have done everything possible to send a message that the people he represents have a right to know what’s going on behind locked gates, even go to jail for it.

HueMoss on July 3, 2014 at 12:20 PM

Based on my recon thinking and it being I know these skunks pretty well.

This congress critter can get in and here is how.

1. Dress in a pair of old coveralls, mud boots, old cap for a hat, a wife beater T-shirt.

2. Carry a plumbers plunger in one hand, and some plumbing tools in the other hand..

3. Walk up and say,,, “Some one wanted me to un-stop the latrine”

easy,,, dirty tricks done dirt cheap

Cuando Levin le preguntó lo que el Congreso en realidad iba a hacer al respecto que weaseled acerca de “audiencias”.

Con razón la gente se pregunta por qué estamos aún necesitamos un Congreso.

For those of you in the camps that aren’t busy filling out your employment applications provided by the Chamber of Commerce, this translation is provided for you. You’re welcome.

I heard him whine on Levin last night.

When Levin asked him what Congress was actually going to DO about it he weaseled about “hearings”.

No wonder people are asking why we even need a Congress.

My questions are: given that Mexico has very strict immigration rules themselves, why are they allowing migrants access through their country. Secondly, who is paying their way? The coyotes don’t work for free.

jpmn on July 3, 2014 at 6:46 AM

They aren’t — in fact they aren’t far more than we aren’t. You get caught by the Mexicans crossing their southern border and you are in for a beating — or worse.

The non-Mexicans who make it through Mexico to the US have had a very dangerous journey.

“After my visit today with the base commander, I approached the barracks where the children are housed. A new fence has been erected by HHS, completely surrounding the barracks and covered with material to totally obscure the view. Every gate is chained closed.

Nazi America, secret camps and all…

Schadenfreude on July 3, 2014 at 1:38 PM

Time to play the left’s game. Go find a sympathetic judge to issue a diktat from the bench.

Then find a sympathetic general to place the base commander under arrest if he doesn’t open the gates.

The Plague

Plagues are always caused by major migrations.

Of some note:

Famly has contacts in New Mexico, near Artiesa in the Southwest corner, south of Roswell and west of Carlsbad.

Seems 100 of the illegal kids are to be bused there very soon.

To some “law enforcement” center run by the Fed’s.
They say it will hold up to 700 people.

This has to have been planed out long ago, they seem to be about hiding these invaders as best the can. Seem to be sending them to places where the news is all local and the AP and the msm will for sure not pick it up as they are in on the plan.

The Mexican Goverment is a full partner with Obama and the commie Democrats on this deal for sure.

No way in hell this could be going on unless the Mexican Govt. was in on the deal. It may be Soros or some of the commie buddy’s are paying the required bribes.

Bad deal going down under our very noses.

APACHEWHOKNOWS on July 3, 2014 at 3:50 PM

Am I wrong here but these are children. Where is child welfare, the Red Cross any one to over see this mess. Its on Federal land that CG of Ft Sill has the authority and responsibility to over ride them and go in for an inspection. WHY NOT, who is keeping them from basic humanity considerations. If I am wrong then so prove it. It is easy to do.

jpcpt03 on July 3, 2014 at 5:36 PM

This is an example of the pussiness of our guys. He should have just pressed on and barged in. If the stopped him by force it would have been a great issue. We need people with some eggs!!!!

PaCadle on July 3, 2014 at 7:40 PM

unaccompanied migrant children? Don’t play that game, Noah. They’re illegal aliens. Period.

Those damn rogue agents just won’t behave.
Though, it is nice when the “Do you know who I am?” line is to no avail.

As a Army officer, a manager at a chemical plant, and any other place where anybody has any oversight responsibility, when they come to see the facility, it is not a tour. Nor are they often scheduled in advance.

This administration, and all of its executive offices which it operates, do not seem to grasp and/or appreciate this concept of oversight. Much like liberal tolerance, all there for views with which it agrees, the oversight is welcome if it is implicitly understood that all is fine and no changes need be made, and by-the-way all of this need not be video taped, eh..?

That hits the nail, he was not there to tour, or visit, Rep. Jim Bridenstine was there to get a first hand assessment of the situation. That was clearly fine with all the other sensitive areas of the base, but not for the detainment camp.

If we notice, President Obama is also not visiting, or maybe it is not allowed, because inside the camps they would be exposed to contagious diseases, some of them serious air born contagious diseases, that they cannot be protected from. The lice, ticks and other vermin that carry disease are present and not contained within those areas. His being given a particular date when it would be safe probably means that date would be after they have decontaminated the area. The appointment was probably BS that was made up by someone just trying to keep the lid on it.

One of the questions not being asked yet is what will become of all those agents being exposed to the diseases, especially the airborne TB? We do have reports of a substantial number of agents now showing exposure, meaning they have it, just not the symptoms yet. The other question should be about what commercial forms of transport have they been in and what steps are being taken to insure the public will not be using the same buses and planes that have been contaminated until they have been deloused and sterilized? There is also the question of these children entering our school systems and who is responsible for the safety of American children who will be exposed and infected?
