Chris Christie: I have no opinion whatsoever on this Hobby Lobby decision

posted at 8:41 pm on July 1, 2014 by Allahpundit

Via Business Insider, apparently this guy has now bought his own BS about potential “crossover” appeal in 2016 to the extent that he won’t even venture an opinion about a landmark Court ruling for fear of alienating women and liberals. Which is funny because there’s an easy squish position available to him that’ll satisfy both sides: Side with Hobby Lobby to make righties happy and then follow Bobby Jindal’s lead by saying that birth control should be available over the counter to make lefties happy. That protects you from the “war on women” crap while shoring up your social conservative bona fides for the primary. Instead, he’s yammering on about what executives are supposed to do when a court rules, as if he’s addressing a leadership seminar. Pro tip: The first step to bold leadership is forming an opinion and standing behind it, even when the politics are fraught.

He’ll make a fine attorney general for President Jeb, though, no?

Krauthammer’s Take: Hobby Lobby Ruling Will ‘Certainly’ Help Democrats

The Hobby Lobby will be advantageous for Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections, Charles Krauthammer says.

“Certainly it’s going help democrats,” he said on Tuesday’s Special Report, “unless you know the case, unless you know that the stories being told about the war on women- that women are being denied access to health care- is preposterous.”

The claim that the case represents a war against women is “absurd on its face, but that’s how the media is portraying it, that’s what the headline is, and I think that’s how it will be received,” Krauthammer said. “That will be very advantageous to Democrats, who will add it on the list of crimes against women that Republicans have allegedly committed.”

Trusser13 on July 1, 2014 at 8:49 PM

He’ll make a fine attorney general for President Jeb, though, no?

Can he stay out of jail is the bigger question..

The clearest, quickest road to Christie, both sources agree, runs through David Samson, a former Attorney General of New Jersey who’s 74 years old and reportedly suffers from Parkinson’s disease. So: Will Samson flip?

“They’ve got him cold,” says one source. “He got sloppy, arrogant, and greedy. Samson will want a deal. This way, he’d get one or two years. He’d have a future on the other side. He won’t want to die in jail.”

Fishman’s timetable is unclear — he has yet to send out target letters even to the lower-hanging fruit: Wildstein and Baroni, and Bridget Kelly and Bill Stepien, Christie’s former Deputy Chief of Staff and his former campaign manager, each deeply implicated in the Fort Lee/GWB debacle. One source expects Fishman to return some indictments as soon as next month. Both sources say that all of those four certainly will be indicted — and both further note that Fishman, an Obama appointee, hopes to see the entire matter resolved before this President’s term expires. “But Fishman is really focused on Christie,” says one source. “Ultimately, he believes he’ll get to the governor.

Big-ticket donors are gamblers; in politics, there are no certainties. The safest bet that is obvious: there’s no future for Chris Christie in the White House. The Big House is a safer bet, by far.

Who cares? If it wasn’t this, it would be something else. The democrats and the democrats with bylines in the media will do whatever it takes to win. I doubt this will sway anyone, it’s just about Democrats GOTV effort.

But no matter how the supreme court ruled, the democrats will find something to use to push whatever silly narrative they need to amp up turn out among single women and minorities (their base).

Christie may get some crossover Democrats to vote for him, like Reagan did in 1980.

Unlike Reagan, Christie won’t get conservatives to make much effort to get out the vote for him.

I believe that if Christie is the Republican nominee, the Democrats will win in 2016.

It might turn out to be better that way, because Christie would likely just continue the Obama agenda, and Republicans in Congress would go along with him, and we would be more screwed than ever. If there is a Democrat President the Republicans will put up some degree of opposition, just because it’s a Democrat President, even if the agenda is identical.

You’re barking up the wrong tree with me, Jimmo. I don’t think that the SCOTUS decision in re: Hobby Lobby was as much of a victory as conservatives want to believe. How much it helps Dems is yet to be seen, but I don’t think Chris Christie is the wunderkind the GOP is looking for, either.

gryphon202 on July 1, 2014 at 9:34 PM

there were lots of conservatives who were in love with Christie in 2012. Romney’s campaign sucked but they did a great job on vetting Christie.

chadlands on July 1, 2014 at 9:35 PM

Interviewer: “Governor Christie just how to you feel about the
SCOTUS Plessy v Ferguson decision.”

Christie: “What do you mean. Why should I give an opinion if they
are right or wrong. They do what they do. At the end of
the day it doesn’t matter what I think.”

Now does that really make any sense. What I think he was trying to say is “I want to straddle my big arse right here on this here fence rather than alienate anyone on either side of this here argument with a principled response.”

Well I just had an argument with the dumbest liberal on my facebook feed. I presented him the facts of the Hobby Lobby decision and at least he was honest. He said I don’t care about the facts the Republicans are wrong.
Why do I even bother.

Was it Tilly?

The Sergeant Schultz deflection – if it works for obama it can work for Christie.

Pro tip: The first step to bold leadership is forming an opinion and standing behind it, even when the politics are fraught.

The above statement should come with a picture of Ted Cruz.

Christie is nothing but a fat ass. He doesn’t lead so much as he plays the bully. No conservative is going to find that appealing no matter how much it is considered sexy among the Northeasterners in the GOP surrender caucus who are too busy demanding the GOP embrace sodomy and abortion as rights.

Christie just revealed why he should never be president. He’s a coward.

We have enough of those in Washington. People who walk the razors edge of politics and have absolutely zero principled mooring.

A principled person always has an opinion. If not, they probably want to better examine small details like facts and substance. After that- they will give you an opinion.

What people hate about Washington is everything Christie represents.

No thanks. Put him on the dust-heap with Hillary.
